According to his agent, David Canter, the Miami Dolphins have signed inside linebacker Tim Dobbins to a two-year contract extension.
No financial terms were disclosed.
Dobbins (6-1, 246) was a restricted free agent this off-season, who the San Diego Chargers tendered at the "Original Round" level, which included a base salary of $1.176 million dollars. San Diego traded Dobbins to the Dolphins on April 22 as part of their trade up to the 12th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft to select running back Ryan Mathews.
A 2006 fifth-round pick (151st overall) out of Iowa State by the Chargers, Dobbins has started 10 of 62 games, totaling 151 tackles, one quarterback sack, and a pair of interceptions. 47 of Dobbins' tackles, as well as one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, came as a core member of the Chargers' special teams units.
While special teams is certainly an area Dobbins is expected to contribute, Dobbins has been working with the first-team defense during the OTAs while Channing Crowder recovers from Lisfranc surgery.
