Packers Daily: Giving Zaire Franklin The Green Dot
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that newly acquired linebacker Zaire Franklin will wear the "green dot" meaning he will be getting the defensive calls from the coaching staff.

Because Franklin is a veteran who has seen it all, and he is still a very good LB, I think we have a slight upgrade from Walker. No he isn't great in pass coverage, Walker was terrible though, and Franklin could be slightly better there too.
Franklin is not a long-term answer at LB, he is just a solid bridge to a better one. I would guess LB will be a Day 2 add in the 2027 draft. Potential needs next year, LB, RB, CB, TE, OL, better DT.

Quay had a hard time diagnosing plays, I never understood how that meant he should wear the green dot. I'd love to see Coop develop into that role, and Franklin is a good vet to help him do that. Franklin reliably diagnoses plays well to be able to get in position and be a step ahead, yet another example of old age and treachery always beating youth.
With all the talk of how good the next draft is supposed to be, hopefully that's true at LB, yes we'll need some. A truly blue chip player there is in order ...
