FOXSports.com Jay Glazer has confirmed that the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings are discussing a trade that would send Randy Moss back to his original franchise.

The hold-up at this point, Glazer reports, is a new contract for Moss, who is earning $6.4 million in the final season of a three-year contract extension he signed in 2008.

ESPN's Bill Simmons accidentally tweeted the rumor of a Moss-to-Minnesota trade earlier this evening.

Moss (6-4, 215) spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Vikings, who selected him in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Moss caught 574 passes for 9,142 yards and 90 touchdowns for the Vikings, earning five trips to the Pro Bowl.

Traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2005, Moss caught 102 passes for 1,1558 yards and 11 touchdowns in two lackluster seasons, allowing the Patriots to acquire Moss in exchange for a 2007 fourth-round pick.

Moss returned to his Pro Bowl form in his first season in New England, catching 98 passes for 1,493 yards and 23 touchdowns as the Patriots went 16-0 during the regular season before losing Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants.

Moss caught 152 passes for 3,272 yards and 24 touchdowns between 2008-09, making another Pro Bowl team following last season.

During this off-season, Moss expressed his discontent with his contract situation and changed agents, hiring Joel Segal to represent him. Moss went reception-less during Monday night's win over the Miami Dolphins, and has just 9 receptions for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns this season.

The Vikings are playing without Sidney Rice, who had a Pro Bowl season as one of Brett Favre's favorite targets in 2009. Rice (hip) is on the physically-unable-to-perform list until after Week 6, and the 1-2 Vikings are desperate for play-makers in what was supposed to be an "all or nothing" season for the franchise that lost the 2009 NFC Championship Game to the New Orleans Saints.

Andrew Brandt of the National Football Post, a former executive with the Green Bay Packers, has reported that Favre's relationship with Green Bay began to deteriorate when the Packers failed to acquire Moss in 2007.

According to Brandt, Favre was livid when the Packers failed to sign Moss as a free agent in 2008.
