The Chicago Bears used their 2011 seventh-round pick to select BYU running back Harvey Unga in today's 2010 NFL Supplemental draft. University of Illinois defensive lineman Joshua Price-Brent was selected by the Dallas Cowboys, also in the seventh-round.
Unga, who left school after violating it's honor code (premarital sex), set the BYU rushing record with 3,455 yards. Unga also scored 36 rushing touchdowns, and added 102 receptions for 1,085 yards and 9 touchdowns as a receiver out of the backfield. The 6-1, 244-pound running back joins a backfield that features 2008 second-round pick Matt Forte and free agent Chester Taylor, who are expected to compete for the starting job.
Unga is expected to play a short-yardage/goal-line role, but has the receiving and blocking ability to be used on third downs.
The 6-2, 318-pound Price-Bent was a two-year starter for the Illini, totaling 71 tackles, including 17.5 for a loss and 5 quarterback sacks. Price-Brent was arrested for DUI in 2009, and had academic issues that cost him his eligibility for his senior season.
Price-Brent is believed to be a one-gap player, indicating that in Dallas' 3-4 system, he'd be utilized at the "5" technique, as opposed to the nose.
Chicago had the 12th spot in the 7th round, while Dallas had the 30th.
