Titans RB Chris Johnson Still Wants Long-Term Deal

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson doesn't regret taking the small increase in his 2010 pay to report to training camp, but he does say that this will be the last season he plays without a long-term contract.

"I couldn't be in here mad. If I was going to come in here mad, I shouldn't have taken the little (money) they gave me," Johnson said, according to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. "Basically I have to come in here and have a great year and get my history deal next year.

"I felt like I deserved it this year, but … I can say it won't happen again. This is the last time without me having a long-term deal. It's a must."

Wyatt notes under current NFL rules, the earliest Johnson could sign a long-term contract extension is July 22, 2011. Given that, it's unlikely that Johnson would participate in any OTAs and/or mini-camps the Titans scheduled next off-season.

Of course, rules in a new CBA could change, and those practices may very well be prohibited altogether as part of the trade-off for an "enhanced" regular season.
