"It was a pleasant surprise to see all the Falcons turn out today," Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said on Saturday after seeing an abundance of red, white and black at teammate Coy Wire's charity mini-golf event in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.

"A guy like Matt, I’m so humble and so thankful he chose to be a part of this," Wire said. "He didn’t have to be here. The fact he was just speaks volumes about his character and he cares about kids and giving back."

According to Eric Thomas of the Patriot-News, Ryan not only attended the event, but gave the shirt off his back to a fan who sank a hole-in-one, and signed the Nike golf hat he was wearing and gave it to another fan.

On the other side of the country, Falcons punter Michael Koenen was hosting nearly 175 kids at the Michael Koenen All-Star Football Kids Camp at Ferndale High School in Washington state, Joe Sunnen of the Bellingham Herald reports.

"Any time you have kids come out and they are having a good time and there is a smile on their face then it's worth it," Koenen said. "If five kids come out and they are smiling and having a good time than it's a job well done. Today we have a lot more kids than that here. That means there will be a lot more smiles, but it's doesn't mean any less or any more. I just want these kids to have a good time. That's my goal."

Koenen's Falcons teammates running back Jerious Norwood and defensive tackle Thomas Johnson were on hand, as were former NFL players Boone Stutz (long-snapper, Falcons, Seattle Seahawks) and Alex Bannister, a former wide receiver with the Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens whose special teams prowess earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl after the 2003 season.

The Falcons resume their "Organized Team Activity" sessions at their Flowery Branch, Georgia headquarters on Tuesday.
