Raiders Trade LB Kirk Morrison to the Jaguars

To move up to the 108th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders traded restricted free agent linebacker Kirk Morrison and a fifth-round pick (153rd) to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With the 108th pick, the Raiders selected Clemson wide receiver Jacoby Ford.

Ford (5-9, 186) finished his college career with 143 receptions for 1,986 yards and 16 touchdowns. Ford was a dynamic return man for the Tigers, and gained over 1,500 return yards, and nearly 500 rushing yards, during his career.

A track & field star, Ford has been timed in the 40-yard dash time as low as 4.22 seconds, and scored 7 touchdowns of 50+ yards as a collegian.

A third-round pick (78th overall) out of San Diego State by the Raiders in the 2005 NFL Draft, the lack of a collective bargaining agreement kept Morrison from being eligible for unrestricted free agency. Morrison was tendered at the "Original Round" level, which carried third-round draft choice compensation had Morrison signed an offer sheet with another club.

Because he earned $2.295 million dollars in base salary last season, Morrison's restricted free agent tender carries a $2.524 million dollar base salary in 2010.

Morrison has stared 79 of his 80 games with the Raiders, totaling 631 tackles, including 41 for a loss, 5 quarterbacks, 7 interceptions, 17 passes defensed and six forced fumbles. Morrison has led the Raiders in tackles in each of the last four seasons, and was elected a defensive captain in 2008.

The Raiders selection of Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft made Morrison expendable.
