Raiders Sign CB Joe Porter

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports the Oakland Raiders have signed free agent cornerback Joe Porter.

After posting 94 tackles and 5 interceptions during a 44-game career at Rutgers, Porter was not selected in the 2007 NFL Draft. Signed by the New Orleans Saints, Porter totaled three tackles during the 2007 pre-season before he was waived at the end of training camp.

Porter (5-10, 203) was signed to the Green Bay Packers' practice squad in November of 2007, and was signed to a "Reserve/Futures" contract following the season. After posting a pair of tackles and a pass defensed during the 2008 pre-season, Porter spent much of '08 on the Packers' practice squad before being signed to the active roster for the final month of the regular season. Porter was active for the Packers' 20-17 overtime loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

Porter posted 10 tackles, including one for a loss, for the Packers during the 2009 pre-season, but was waived at the end of the training camp. Porter spent last Fall with the UFL Champion Las Vegas Locomotives. Following the UFL season, Porter was signed to the Cleveland Browns' practice squad in the final week of the regular season, but was not offered a "Reserve/Futures" contract for 2010.

Porter worked out for the Seattle Seahawks during their pre-draft mini-camp in April.
