Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable announced that quarterback Charlie Frye will be placed on injured reserve, Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group reports.

Frye underwent surgery on his right wrist on Wednesday and is facing a 4-to-5 month rehabilitation, Cable said.

A third-round pick (67th overall) by the Cleveland Browns in 2005, Frye started 19 games for the Browns, completing 62.5% of his passes for 3,490 yards with 14 touchdowns and 23 interceptions before traded to the Seattle Seahawks.

After two seasons, and one start, for the Seahawks, Frye signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders last off-season. Frye started three games in 2009, completing nearly 61% of his passes for 581 yards, but had 4 interceptions against his one touchdown pass.

Ineligible for unrestricted free agency, the Raiders placed the "Original Round" restricted free agent tender on Frye, which will pay him a $1.226 million base salary in 2010.

Along with Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller, Frye had been competing for a back-up role behind starter Jason Campbell.
