PFT: Steelers Shopped Santonio Holmes

Citing a league source, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers "called everyone" outside the AFC North in their attempt to trade Santonio Holmes this weekend.

The Steelers ultimately shipped Holmes to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick, the 155th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that had the Steelers not found a trade partner, they would have released Holmes, which should shed a little light on those who have acted like the Steelers somehow got fleeced in this trade for the former Super Bowl MVP.

The bottom line is that the Jets, who have an aging offensive line and a run-first offense, just traded one of their two remaining mid-round picks in the 2010 NFL Draft for 3/4 of a season from a wide receiver with a list of off-field transgressions that would make Plaxico Burress flinch.
