Lions TE Tony Scheffler Signs 3-Year Extension

Detroit Lions tight end Tony Scheffler has signed a three-year extension, reports Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

A second-round pick (61st overall) out of Central Michigan by the Denver Broncos in 2006, Scheffler has caught 162 passes for 2,108 yards and 15 touchdowns during his first 4+ seasons in the National Football League.

Scheffler has 24 receptions for 212 yards and a touchdown this season.

Scheffler was not eligible for unrestricted free agency this off-season, and received a restricted free agent tender at the "Original Round" level, which carried a $1.176 million dollar base salary in 2010.

Klis adds that Scheffler received a $2 million signing bonus as part of his contract extension, though the full terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Detroit acquired the Michigan native in three-way trade on April 19 that also involved the Philadelphia Eagles.
