Jets QB Kellen Clemens Signs RFA Tender
By admin
Scout.com's Adam Caplan reports New York Jets restricted free agent quarterback Kellen Clemens has signed his one-year tender.
The former second-round pick out of Oregon was tendered at the "Original Round" level, and would earn a base salary of $1.176 million dollars if he's on the Jets' 2010 roster. Clemens will compete with Erik Ainge and Kevin O'Connell for the #2 role behind starter Mark Sanchez.
Sanchez is still recovering from off-season knee surgery, and Clemens' 9 NFL starts over the last four seasons may give him the edge over Ainge and O'Connell in the competition. Ainge has never appeared in an NFL game, while O'Connell completed 4-of-6 attempts for 23 yards in two games' worth of action for the 2008 New England Patriots.
In 24 career games, Clemens has completed 51.8% of his 282 pass attempts for 1,680 yards, with 5 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, compiling a passer rating of 59.7.
Jets cornerback Drew Coleman and running back Leon Washington still have not signed their one-year tenders, the only two of the team's eight restricted free agents to have done so.
