Friend of JaMarcus Russell Takes Blame For Codeine Drink

Marcus Stevenson, a friend of free agent quarterback JaMarcus Russell, claimed responsibility for mixing the codeine drink found in Russell's bedroom during a raid of Russell's Mobile, Alabama home.

"He was willing to step forward and tell the truth," Stevenson's lawyer, Greg Evans, said this morning, according to the Mobile Press-Register.

Despite Stevenson's willingness to tell the truth about whose codeine-laced drink it was in Russell's bedroom, the Mobile County District Judge Charles McKnight sent Russell's case to a grand jury.

Russell remains free on $2,500 bail.
