Former Bucs G Arron Sears Arrested in Tampa

Free agent offensive lineman Arron Sears was arrested for an outstanding warrant in Tampa on Saturday afternoon, Chad Cookler of ABC Action News in Tampa reports.

According to the report, Hillsborough Sheriff deputies discovered a confused Sears wandering down the middle of Gunn Highway around 3pm on Saturday.

Authorities intended on using the Baker Act on Sears, which would subject him to a 72-hour mental health evaluation, but instead placed him under arrest for his warrant issue, which involved a battery on a law enforcement officer, a third-class felony, from June.

A second-round pick (37th overall) out of the University of Tennessee in 2007, Sears (6-3, 319) started 31 games over his first two seasons in the NFL before a neurological condition prompted him to not report to training camp in 2009. Sears was reinstated by the team last November, but was placed on the "Reserve/Non-Football Injury" list, ending his season.

The Buccaneers released Sears on April 26.

Sears is being held on $2,000 bail.
