Browns RB Chris Jennings Arrested for Assault

Cleveland Browns running back Chris Jennings was arrested earlier this morning for suspicion of assault, Gabriel Baird of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports.

According to the report, Jennings "ran into trouble" with the doorman at The Velvet Dog, a dance club in downtown Cleveland. As of this morning, Jennings was still be held, but has not been charged with a crime.

Jennings, 24, appeared in nine games for the Browns last season, including one start, and running for 220 yards and a touchdown, and catching 9 passes out of the backfield for 56 yards. Jennings signed with the Browns as a free agent during the summer after spending two seasons with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, and began 2009 on the team's practice squad.

Mike Wilkening of Pro Football Weekly posted an article this morning about how much of a surprise Jennings was last season, and how the 5-10, 219-pound running back was working on his speed and patience this off-season.

Contrary to the Plain-Dealer report, Jennings attended the University of Arizona, not Arizona State.
