With Bill Musgrave accepting the Minnesota Vikings' job, the Cleveland Browns have widened their search for an offensive coordinator.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple has emerged as a candidate.

After spending over 15 years as a head coach at New England colleges, including Brown and UMASS, Whipple got his first NFL coaching opportunity with the Steelers in 2004, coaching Ben Roethlisberger and Co. until he was fired by new head coach Mike Tomlin.

Whipple spent two seasons (2007-08) with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he worked several current Browns personnel executives and scouts, including general manager Tom Heckert. Most recently, Whipple was the offensive coordinator position at the University of Miami for the past two seasons.

Complicating the Browns' search for an offensive coordinator is that head coach Pat Shurmur will handle the offensive play-calling duties. This makes the position less appealing to coordinator candidates such as Musgrave and Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who may be looking to use this position as a springboard to head coaching opportunities of their own.
