Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert has acknowledged talking to the St. Louis Rams about trading up to the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft in order to select Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford.

"We're playing a little phone tag," said Heckert. "But we've talked to them."

The Browns currently have the seventh overall pick in the draft, and are well-armed to move up with four picks (38, 71, 85, 92) on the second day of this year's three-day NFL Draft.

"He's a coveted young man," Browns president Mike Holmgren said of Bradford. "You'd have to mortgage the ranch (to trade up to select him). In the real world, we're probably going to go in a different direction."

Since arriving in Berea, Holmgren has released 2007 Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Anderson, who was due to earn over $9 million dollars in total compensation in 2010, and traded former first-round quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos. Holmgren has also acquired Seneca Wallace from the Seattle Seahawks, and signed veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme to a two-year contract that will pay Delhomme $7 million dollars this season.

With Wallace signed for 2010 only, and Delhomme also signed for the short-term, adding a quarterback is something Holmgren is expected to do at some point in the 2010 NFL Draft. With the seventh pick, the Browns appear in prime position to select Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who Holmgren has reportedly warmed to in recent weeks.
