Absolutely right Ken, every bit of your article is spot on. And that Nijman was inserted was smart, and probably one of the only bright light bulbs out of the coaching staff.

Game Balls:

Smith - He had his best game of the season.

Carlson - I think we got the right brother.

Lame Calls:

Love - 3 interceptions, just bad. Then to throw the interception to end the game. Not good. He has regressed from week 1.

Offensive coaches - The game plan was not good. The play calling was fine but could have been a lot better. My issue with the play calling was after they hit Watson for the bomb. The next 2 play calls were runs. Why does that bother me? They were expecting it. They knew what was coming. They got down there with the long throw go and throw it. Instead 2 runs and pass and settle for a FG. They need to figure out this screen game. Because they absolutely can't run a screen right now. There is nothing they can hang their hat on right now and know its going to work.

Defensive coaches - I heard them say 17 points is enough to win the game. It wasn't last night. They need to allow 10 at most last night to win.
Sorry but why in the absolute hell do they have Preston Smith covering Adams? This alone puts them in the lame category.

3 and Out:

Dillon had his best game of the season. I thought about giving him a game ball, but figured not many really deserved one after that game.

No Jones no offense. Its not a coincidence our offense has struggled without Jones playing. Get Jones back and our offense will start to look better.

By the end of the game we had our back up ILB's and a backup S playing. I felt like they held up well. But we need to get Walker, Campbell and Savage back!

Congratulations Murphy and Gute, The Packers have gone from First to Worst in two seasons. And lets not forget the team is in Salary Cap Hell for the next two seasons. The Packers are a triple AAA football team in the NFL. Another exciting game from two lousy football teams last night. Get prepared Packer fans welcome back to the 70's and 80's when the Packer were bottom dwellers in the NFL. Poor drafting and free agent acquisitions have put this team where they are now. And how is that #1 pick Luka Van Ness playing..? The non starter in college football drafted by the Packers in the first round. Looking more and more like another Dean Lowry. Time to move on from Murphy and Gute and start making changes at the top. Sure glad I didn't purchase the NFL Sunday Ticket this season. Trading deadline is up in three week time for a fire sale in Green Bay. Packers are a mess.

one cannot see the field or find his open men and when he sees them he misses the throw; the other sees the field finds the man and hits him. admittedly Purdy has a great O line with lots of weapons, but still... but we need to clean house of the coaches. the team is never ready, and when the other team seems to have MLF's play sheet by heart, MLF can make no workable adjustments. again embarrassed on national tv two games in a row.

First, when you need a rb to save your team and he is sitting, there is something very wrong with the team strategy.
LeFleur doesnt get it that its a passing league. A team that runs dies by the run. Trailing late in games means a shift to passing and the receivers are clueless. "You havent thrown to me the whole game and now your zinging the ball to me and I'm supposed to save you - aka Doubs, Toure.
Second, I think we all know who Love is now. He is a guy who needs more thinking time to process the field then the NFL will afford him. This is Gutts pick.
Also, I didnt here Wyatts name all night and he was another one pick of Gutt, where the hell is he in this. Gutts pick.
Gutts third round TE caught his first and only pass and its game five? The Vikes Addison caught his fourth TD of the season yesterday and is a barn burner to mirror Jefferson and our third rounder can get on the field? WTF
Long sorry season for this team but you can bet by the end we will know, Love isnt the guy and we have a few in the same boat as him on this team and they were Gutts picks.

Matt Lafleur is trying cute, ticky tacky stuff with a team that can't get the fundamentals of blocking straight. Watson's 2nd quarter sweep where almost every blocking assignment was missed is high school caliber. He wants the illusion of complexity but it is too complex to execute. I feel sorry for the guys because they look lost.

On a wider front, you gotta ask why a team moving on from a long standing MVP QB didn't design the team to pound the ball more effectively and give their new, young QB a competitive foundation. We keep playing this finesse offense with a thousand moving parts that doesn't fool anyone. Time to rip the bandaid off and rebuild the philosophy.

Ken is the only analyst holding Live responsible for all three interceptions. Correct! They were all poor throws on his part. Expecting receivers to make exceptional catches on bad throws is just a failure to hold Love accountable for his poor performance and continue the kid glove treatment this guy gets from the media. Time to put on the big-boy pants, Jordan.

I watched the Manning brothers broadcast because I can’t stand the comedy duo of Joe Smug and Troy Arrogant. Interestingly, Peyton Manning said that it looks like Love is not “seeing the field quickly enough “ and that many times guys are open but by the time Love sees and throws it, they are covered up again. Eli said Love has to “anticipate guys getting open and not wait until he sees them open “ and that’s why the throws are late. Since these guys played, I thought the comments were interesting. It also sounds like, with experience, Love could improve in this area.

Game Balls
Anders Carlson. Kicking way over his head based on what we saw in preseason and the only consistent scoring threat on this team right now.

The Defense. This defense played really well considering (1) they played the majority of the game without any legit starting ILBs and (2) Savage went out early in the second half with an injury. In this league, when you hold your opponent to 17 points or less, you should win the majority of those games--maybe like 85% of those games. There will be the dumbasses out there who will spout "yeah, but they gave up a drive...blah...blah." The defense kept the Packers in that game and deserved a better result.

Lame Calls
Offensive game plan and coaching.
Last night should've been an opportunity to try some things, be creative, and put some points up against what was supposed to be a down-in-the-mouth and ready-to-fold Raiders team. What we saw was an offensive game plan that doubled down on a struggling back did very little to give a young--and let's call it what it is--struggling QB a real chance to grow. Uncreative and repetitive play calls, failure to allow 10 to get into any kind of rhythm or to generate easy looks and confidence-building short throws...and key dropped passes on a final drive that might've had a chance if they could just move the effin' chains. The Raiders were also playing without 2 of their top 4 CBs, too...any playcaller worth their salt would've found those guys and moved the ball on them.

I give Dillon credit for what was his best game of the year (which really isn't saying a lot), but also put the Packers in a place where they've struggled of late--sustaining drives and to not making stupid mistakes. The Raiders were happy to shorten this game and let the Packers to play 3.5 yards and a cloud of dust football. The Packers just pounded between the tackles and allowed the Raiders to load the box, jam the inside gaps, and--when the Packers tried play-action (which wasn't often enough--blow up the OL.

The OL
While the OL was able to make hay on ONE drive in the second half moving the ball on the ground, they weren't able to hold the Raiders' very pedestrian pass rush at bay, and 10 was regularly hassled on his low number (through 3 quarters) of dropbacks. It was supposed to be a relief that Jenkins and JRJ were healthy enough to play, but 50 didn't have a good night and neither did 63. The question is: what has Nijman done (or NOT done) that has buried him so far down the depth chart that they can't give him a chance to displace Walker--who is (at best) way too inconsistent?

We've been schmoozed into thinking that this unit was deep and talented. It's not playing well and everything hinges on that.

"Speaking of Watson, how does he get caught from behind on the 77 yard pass play?"

The ball wasn't laid-out for him, first of all, and the DB (24) saw he was beat and played the angle to take away the sideline from Watson--turns out it was probably the game-saving play. He forced Watson back into the middle of the field where his DB help could catch up...it's just geometry: who had further to run? The real travesty was that the Packers then ran good ol' McCarthy goal line offense, bouncing Dillon off the LOS twice for no gain and then throwing the ball away in play-action that fooled no one.

I think Packers’ fans have been a bit unrealistic. They have a virtual rookie at quarterback, and he, like the fans, have discovered that there is a big difference between making great passes in training camp and preseason than in the real games, especially when you are the starting quarterback. Throw out Love’s first-game performance against the Bears; the Chicagoans were a mess during that first week.

The Packers have an O Line that was probably over-rated going into the season. Now that there are reserves playing for injured, O-line starters, that five-some has weakened. On defense, they have some fine safeties but one “all pro” corner, Alexander, has been far less than all pro during the last three seasons. It’s baffling to me why Green Bay struggles to stop the run year-after-year and it doesn’t seem to make a difference who the defensive coordinator is.

The head coach, to be honest, was protected by Aaron Rodgers during his first three seasons. Rodgers is gone. We’ll find out what kind of coach MLF is this season.

Packers’ fans will need patience this year, and probably next year, too.

The entire team seems emotionally spent, and as we all know a team that beats itself sure makes it easy for the opponent to beat it. Even Aaron Jones’s uplifting enthusiasm has waned. I’ve lowered my expectations but not my standards. We expected a growth year but are getting more of a recession year.

I would add to the lame calls. MLF calling a time out at 47 seconds left of the first when it appeared the Raiders were letting the clock run. They did not score but that was only because they missed a makeable FG.

Watson got caught because he had to slow up to catch the ball. The ball was under thrown.

I have come to the conclusion that MLF cannot be the HC, OC, and play caller at one time. It worked with Rodgers and experienced players on the team but with this young team and mainly the offense it is not working. The HC needs to spend most of their time and energy at coordinating the activities of all three phases. This young offense needs an OC and play caller that can devote most of their time to their development and working to build a plan to their capabilities. This was magnified when Jones was determined not available a day before the game.

At least Anders Carlson can talk smack at Thanksgiving with the fam. Game ball!

I can be patient with this group of athletes. I'm afraid I'm becoming a firm believer in LaFleur's illusion of competence. Musgrave couldn't come all the way across the formation to block and unblocked DE last week, so we expect it in this game? It hasn't worked against Hutchinson or Crosby. Maybe Denver has a statue-like DE it'll work on?

Love is going to be alright.

Coaching on both sides of the ball is horrific! Love just looks bad! The by week is not going to save our Packers. We need better leaders running our organization!!!!!!

Watch video of any starting #1 WR fight for a deep ball pass vs Watson drifting backwards on the last interception. Watson never fought for the ball, no way he gets that call. Adams would have turned that into an easy TD or at least had the Packers at the 1 yard line with a flag...because he would have fought for the ball.

Watch video of the deep ball that was catchable, but Watson drifts too far to his left instead of making what should have been a minimum of a big gain. Instead it was incomplete.

Love's first interception was horrible. However, the last two interceptions don't happen if Watson isn't lazy.

For those talking about Davante Adams. His first 2 years were filled with drops, bad routes, not fighting for the ball. These kids need to realize they decide whether they will be in the league in 2 years or if they will have a long career. Every year, most of the NFL draft picks don't make it because they either don't have the talent or don't commit. Watson, Doubs, Reed, Musgrave have the talent. Time for them to decide their future.

All that I can say is this - IF anybody thought that Lafleur was an offensive genius - the proof is in the pudding = He is NOT. It was all AR - and mostly AR and Davante and the boys. Now please dont blame it on Jone's injury - because that while he is a threat - good offenses find ways to compensate - and Lafeur has not. Now the Vegas team is absolutely horrible and we could not find work arounds? Crosby was all over the place but other teams have found work arounds for him and not let him wreck games. I would not be giving our D a big pat on the back for their play against the Raiders either because that offense is plain and simple not good both on the field and statistically - so dont pat yourself on the back Barry. We have a very mobile quarterback whose accuracy and decision making seems to have been crippled by Lafleur and his offensive play design. The only motion that occurs is the odd receiver moving from one side to the other presnap and everything else seems to be static. If this is not corrected during the bye - it will be a long rest of the season and could be the demise of Love - Love has the skills and mobility and the receivers have the speed and while they are still learning the route running skills to get open - the whole offensive scheme needs to be re-aligned around motion and ball out fast and dont understand why Lafleur cant see this.

I am not sure what everyone was/is expecting. This is the “youngest” team in the league with an unproven QB. That’s not an excuse for poor play. Love was either incapable or the play calling didn’t allow the Packers to push the ball down the field against a weak secondary. The Oline play has been unacceptably bad. Jones or not there were no holes to run through. Crosby was in our backfield more than I was in the kitchen looking for food and beer. Worst team? No. Bottom half of the League? Yes.

Buckle up. Going to be a long year. Hopefully, they make some progress to fix some of the many weaknesses so we can go into 2024 with at least some hope.

If you haven’t caught Jaire’s locker room interview, you should go and listen. He sums it up quite gently and eloquently, but the frustration with the offense is palatable. The defense feels like they not only have to keep a clean sheet, but that they will likely be the only ones scoring as well.

Prior to this game, I read an article that said the Raiders were one of the worst teams in football. Now, we have the same record. Good call, Rex!

And prior to this game, I felt that the WORST RESULT would be a Packer loss AND the defense playing better for a change. That result might elongate the employment of Joe Dingle Berry. And sure enough, what happens...

This is a young and talented team that are going to lose some games that they should have won. We all understand that. But piss poor coaching is inexcusable! LaGoofs offense was, well, offensive. Barry has a 265 lb lineman covering the best receiver in the league? Yep, not surprised. Steno is not an OC and I question many things about him now.

We have a Bye to let this clueless coaching staff come up with answers? Sure. I won't even listen to LaGoofs upcoming pressers now. Until we see some coaching changes on this clueless staff - Rich B aside - this team has a lot more to worry about than young, inexperienced players.

Love = Hundley & Kizer....career journeyman....AR made MLF seem like a competent HQ, he's not, look what these players see coming off the field in a tough situation, a meek looking guy hiding behind a play sheet, now look at Campbell on the sidelines of the Lions...thats who players respect....

Yawn...

While watching LaFleur get cute with his playcalling and abandon what was working (AJ Dillon and run blocking for a change), a friend shared a Reddit comment he saw: "I see now why Rodgers audibled out of a lot of these play calls." This was supposed to be the year LaFleur got to show his offensive acumen, and its not looking great. It can't all be on him, execution is just as important, but the playcalling didn't exactly set the players up for success. Too many 2nd or 3rd and longs with passes of one or two yards, or behind the line. Then deep passes on short yardage to gain. Can anyone guess what he said during his postgame interview? "I've got to do better." When do the words translate into action?

I've been down on Dillon for a while, and it was nice to see him show up. Its not his fault the playcalling moved away from him. Having every receiver in the early stages of their pro development isn't helping Love any. Rodgers had Donald Driver and Greg Jennings in his first year as a starter. Wouldn't mind if the FO went out to get Love some help. Not that it would add any extra time for him to throw; pass blocking is falling off in a major way. That said, Love's first INT maybe the worst I've seen. Even if Spillane wasn't right there to catch the gift wrapped INT, another defender was immediately behind him, ready to do the same. He didn't just miss one defender, he missed two.

Raiders first TD was a nine yard pass against a defense playing the same old off line soft coverage; a play call as if 40 yards still needed to be gained for a score. Trying to take away the big play? A nine yard TD is the big play there, Barry. Defense did only allow 10 more points after that, with many solid performances. Holding any team to under 20 points makes any game winnable.

Everyone anticipated an up and down, sometimes rough sometimes encouraging, season with development a major priority. I don't think its all gloom and doom, but that was a very frustrating game to watch. Against one of the worst teams in the league, no less. Injuries are decimating the roster; the bye couldn't have come at a better time. LaFleur probably doesn't need to worry about his position this season, unless the team completely collapses and loses to the likes of the Bears at Lambeau, but his seat should be warming up. He needs to finally "do better."

Love was not very effective last night. I think the play calling/scheme for the game was very sketchy. Now Love isn't a rookie, but he's not experienced either. The problem with the receivers, which we expected, deal with route running. An inexperienced QB, rookie and 2nd year receivers WILL NOT PLAY UP TO THEIR STANDARDS UNTIL THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT WON"T WORK. It's just human nature that people will tell you a dozen times do it this way and not that way, but guess what.....you won't change until you do it wrong and say to yourself "Dang it now I know why they want me to do it that way."

The strength of the Packers was suppose to be the oline and defense. Oline has not shown to be very capable after Bak went down and Jenkins isn't 100%, so again young linemen learning by doing. The defense sometimes is just comical. MLF has this year to get the right coaches and system in place with the youngest squad in the NFL, after this year I suspect he will be on a very short leash. The NFL as we always have heard stands for Not For Long. I expect more games like last night but also some games like they played against Chicago and NO. We will see how this season plays out. Still enjoy watching them.

Time for a wholesale coaching purge. After the Packers had a really bad year, Mike McCarthy replaced eight assistant coaches. Time for LaFleur to do the same. If he can't, then he should be replaced by someone else. Butkus needs to go, since the OL has been floundering badly since he's taken over as position coach.
LaFleur should also be put on alert that the days of not making in-game adjustments; never having an answer when the opponent shuts down the original scheme; and constantly talking about how things are going to change. And then keeps doing the same things. Stenavich needs to go back to coaching the OL, or be told to leave, as he is (right now) the second worst OC in Packer history. It seems the rest of the league has learned how to stop the Packers offense. Yet, there are no new ideas or game plans. The "illusion of complexity" has become the "reality of failure". Time to start over with some new blood, and innovative coaches. And if they cost more than "promoting from within", who cares? The bottom line for the Packers should be winning Super Bowls, not having record profits.

Over many months of discussion surrounding a certain former QB, Coldword and others speculated that a season free from the presence of that QB would tell us whether Scooter and Boys are, in fact, a good coaching staff or not. I suspect we've been getting the answer to this question over the past five weeks. IMO, the only good coaches on the staff and Bisaccia and probably Clements (though Love's regression could be pinned on him, I suppose). Perhaps I'm being harsh to some of the assistant coaches, but the Big Three seem to be very poor. I hope we get a change at season's end, if not before.

There are lots of things wrong with the Packers. And a lot has to do with the coaches. Why does is appear in the 4th quarter teams drive on the defense for long drives. They seem to know Barry's tendencies and call plays to match them. How can Smith be guarding Adams? How can Campbell be guarding Robinson in the Atlanta game for an easy 3rd down conversion. The opponents know that those plays will work and wait to call them at the appropriate times. That is Barry, period.

What happened on the offense of a blend of short and long plays. How about rolling out to give Love more time. The whole offense appears disjointed. The defenses are attacking Love and it destroys the timing and execution of plays. Things just don't look good. And Love and the receivers better start practicing on their own to learn how to catch passes that are not perfect. That is because Love is so inaccurate.

This is going to be a long season. 10 to 12 losses at this point. And they have an easy schedule where 10 wins were possible. But they have no idea on how to win. And that includes the coaches too.

you think last night was bad just wait if Bronco's beat them...Bronco's and Raiders two of the worst, one has already beat them...I wouldnt put too much money down on the Packers next game...

Musgrave has no YAC because he can't keep his feet when he does catch the ball. Dude needs serious balance training.

I get the feeling that LaFleur has no idea what to do with his starting quarterback- how to make up plays for him and the new receivers. I mean, man! he's worked with Love for three fucking years. By now LaFleur should have some idea of Love's tendencies, his weaknesses, his strengths But the whole offense just looks lost, like they don't have a fucking clue.

All of the above comes down to the head coach, to Matt LaFleur. He's the head honcho. He sets the tone.

I say again: So what the hell were those first three highly successful years as head coach of the Packers. Was it really Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams ( future hall of fame veterans ) who made all the difference?

This is a rebuilding team alright. So is the head coach.

I've gotta have patience. I've gotta believe. I have to have faith.

Game plan -

You simply can't come into a game with the idea you will give a limited power back 20 carries .... and have no other running ideas at all! No end rushes, no delays, no speed rushes. You know why Maxx whatever his name is was so tough?

Cause he didn't have to think about anything but Dillion up the middle dives and his own pass rush.

Jones has not played since week 1. if you don't trust any other backs we have .... go out and get a back you do trust.

This game planning is high school level .... if that.

This is probably the most disappointing game of the season thus far.

On the bright side, defense played good enough to win, but is still too soft vs run. Raiders are one of the worst running teams and they put up decent run yards. I was happy to see that MLF figured out how best to use Dillon finally, qb under center.

Now on to why this game was so disappointing.

- MLF play calling was horrid. Raiders would adjust, and MLF wouldn't. You could see how they stacked the box against run after the long 77 yard pass.
- MLF simply did not have plan for Crosby
- Love's accuracy is becoming a problem. He underthrows a lot.
- Offense looked like shit
- That first INT by Love.

I just don't see Love getting more accurate or MLF getting smarter. No need to comment on Barry.

Random
- The last drive were they ran an impromptu play after reception with clock running, and 4 (?) WRs ran to the same basic location was sad, but they're young.
- The 2 TEs trying to block crosby
- Drops
- Both starting ILBs injured
- OL is too inconsistent. Generally, at least 1 guy is going to screw up bad enough to ruin the play.

It's hard to throw to an open receiver when all the WR'ers are within ten yards of each other. I couldn't believe it. Either the play designs are crap or the guys are running the wrong routes. I believe that's why Musgraves was getting his azz chewed by MLF but it happened multiple times...one on a key late game 3rd down where the WR's were literally 5 feet from each other near the sideline.

Also, someone please tell Joe Barry that when the opponent is inside the ten yard line our safeties CANNOT line up in the end zone!!!! How many times is this going to happen??? Year after year, game after game.

Watson had to wait for the, as usual, underthrown ball from Love. He started from essentially a stand still. The defenders saw what was happening and got at least a step or two start down field. He also may not have chosen the best route to clear everyone.
