Packers Would "Love" a Home Victory over Vikings

The Packers are 0-2 in the Jordan Love era against the Vikings at Lambeau Field.

Last September Jordan Love had one of the best statistical games of his six-year career. His 389 yards and 32 completions are both career highs and the four touchdown passes is tied for a career best with last year’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.

However, Love also finished the game with three interceptions, which played a big part in the 31-29 to the rival Vikings. Since Love became the team’s starting quarterback in 2023, the Packers are just 1-3 against the Vikings and 0-2 at Lambeau Field.

The Packers also had identical records in 2023 and 2024 against the Detroit Lions. In that week 1 contest, Green Bay turned in best performance of the season, defeating the two-time defending division champions in a convincing 27-13 win.

The Packers quarterback is coming off a so-so statistical day against the New York Giants, but he led the Packers to their 3rd win in six weeks when trailing at some point in the 4th quarter. The Packers had the ball and trailing in the other three games. The first was the tie against Dallas, the second was the loss against Carolina and third was the loss to Philadelphia. In the Cowboys and Panthers games the Packers offense either tied or took the lead in the 4th quarter.

Love's 4th quarter touchdown pass to Christian Watson was his 5th career go-ahead touchdown pass in the final five minutes of a game. It was the third game where the Packers held on for a win (2023 New Orleans, 2023 LA Chargers the other two).

Heading into the Week 12 contest, the Vikings have been very up and down. In one week they have an impressive come-from-behind victory over the Chicago Bears and then they lay an egg against the Atlanta Falcons. They followed up their win against the Detroit Lions with two straight home losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears.

This is likely with what comes from having a rookie quarterback. The Packers entered their 2023 and 2024 matchups with the younger starting quarterback in three of those four matchups. All three of those were losses; two to Sam Darnold and one to Kirk Cousins. The lone packers win in the rivalry was in 2023 when Jaren Jall and Nick Mullens took the snaps at quarterback.

The game was a runaway 33-10 win, with Love finishing three touchdown passes, two to Jayden Reed and another to Bo Melton. Melton had over 100 yards receiving, the only 100-yard performance from a wide receiver in the 2023 regular season.

Year Winner Loser Score Love's stats GB Leading Receiver
2023 Vikings Packers 24-10 24/41, 229 yds, 1 td, 1 int Reed 4 rec, 83 yds
2023 Packers Vikings 33-10 24/33, 256 yds, 3 tds Melton 6 rec, 105 yds, 1 td
2024 Vikings Packers 31-29 32/54, 389 yds, 4 tds, 3 ints Reed 7 rec, 139 yds, 1 td
2024 Vikings Packers 27-25 19/30, 185 yds, 1 td Doubs 7 rec, 58 yds

In last seasons two games, the Vikings defense led by Brian Flores was able to neutralize the Packers passing game. Last season, after having the big performance in Week 4, the Flores-led defense allowed just 185 yards from Love and one touchdown pass, which came in the final two minutes of the game.

The Vikings defense will show a lot of Cover 2 to the Packers offense. After struggling in the two games against the Vikings last year, Love has been very successful against Cover 2 this season. According to PFF and Daire Carragher on X, Jordan Love is completing 91.7% of his passes against Cover-2 this season, per PFF — a modern NFL record. Against Cover 2 this season Love is 33/36 for 392 yards.

We should be licking our chops for this game. J.J. "McPonder" (courtesy of a Vikings blogger) has six TDs and 8 INTs despite that pair of receivers he has...On the defensive side, they have the fewest INTs and Byron Murphy isn't the factor he was last season.

O"Connell gave a very detailed, list of things J.J. needs to work on, including throwing posture, which kind of leads you to believe he has a major project on his hands.

Gotta have this one, and convincingly would be nice for a change.

I still worry about those pass-catchers. Addison and JJ are both big game guys, and even Nailor has saved their bacon from time to time. Even Ponder would complete passes if he wasn't harassed, so the Packers need to be a little more creative in how they attack the Vikings' front (which is actually pretty good). They'll try to run Jones and Mason against the Packers...if they're able to run, the Packers will have a dogfight on their hands.

Teams have been able to run at the Vikings' middle, and the Bears moved the Vikings around last week. They moved Wilson into a starting spot over Pace because Pace was exposed in the passing game...now Wilson's being exposed in the run game. Greenard probably won't play, but the Vikes will attack the LOS on defense more than just about anyone else in the league. Packers can't give up on the run game, but Love needs to hit his drop and get the ball out on time and on rhythm this week. There won't be much "standing in the pocket waiting for WR to uncover".

" J.J. "McPonder""

You get a cookie!
I've been calling him "Christian Ponder 2.0" since last spring, and Vikings fans hated it. Now, if they're doing it, I feel even more vindicated!

Jordan was good.

Watson made great plays to catch those, both

The Vikings will do the same deals bring 6 or 7 to the line maybe bring all maybe not.

Will triple Watson , will double Doubs and make the 3rd or 4th receiver beat us.

We need to run offense so Watson is one on one and hit on those plays .

They will want to start fast. They like the semi quick passes. 14-16 yard stuff and crossing routes

You can’t forgot about Thielen he is savvy vet..

I was at the game he break through. We didn’t cover him and next thing you know the Vikings said this guy can play.

He should actually thanks us for I think it was Randall cb and forgot others .

The year Rodger’s had to score 30 plus to win.

Anyway will be some opportunities just need to take advantage of them

Need to tackle on defense this week. Linebackers need to play well and ocoonell will go up tempo to change flow of the game.

I bet they do some trick plays. Thielan or Jones throwing a pass. Fake punt etc… or someone ..

Need good special teams on kickoffs and punts

They typically route jones and Mason a series You might see both. Of them together. They like jones on wheel routes like the bears game in Chicago. Open space stuff

Aaron. Such language

One drive. Malik went right down and scored

Let’s hear it for him also.

Jags games last year

I want Love to play like he can everyweek.

Still want another shot at the beagles.

To many opportunities left that night

Playing scared. Screw that

Get after it

Yes—I also feel we can beat the Eagles. They have slipped by us long enough!

Eric Wilson might be calling out plays Sunday.

Last year going to Dolphins game walking in with my daughter on Thanksgiving by the Gas station and waiting to cross the street a guy pulls up on his bike . I looked it was Eric Wilson with his back pack just heading into Lambeau for the game. Said Hi he just smiled and started riding his bike .
I think I had a two piece chicken from kwik trip But we got the W. So that was the main course.

So, we still need a #1 and #2 WR....a TE who plays like 85...and Jacobs healthy...OL to block run/pass...DL to stop the run and get home with the pass rush. GPG
