Packers -- sans four starters -- limp into Thursday night clash with Seahawks
The Packers have a lot of work to do to come out of Thursday night with a victory.
-- The Green Bay Packers unveiled their final injury designations Wednesday ahead of their Thursday night clash with the Seattle Seahawks.
There were no surprises as far as players already ruled out of the game, a list headlined by safety Kentrell Brice, receiver Randall Cobb, cornerback Kevin King and linebacker Nick Perry. All four players didn't make the trip to Seattle.
Cornerback Bashaud Breeland and linebacker Blake Martinez were both listed as questionable, however, Breeland was a full participant in Wednesday's light practice whereas Martinez was limited.
Only one player was listed as doubtful, and that was guard Lucas Patrick, who is still being evaluated in the concussion protocol.
Coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the week that Wednesday's practice would emulate the usual light walkthroughs the Packers have on Saturdays before Sunday games.
Other players listed on the injury report but weren't given a designation and, in all likelihood, will play against the Seahawks include tackles David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga, tight end Jimmy Graham and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
For the Seahawks, safeties Mo Alexander and Delano Hill, defensive end Dion Jordan and cornerback Neiko Thorpe were all listed as questionable. The only doubtful player is linebacker K.J. Wright, who didn't participate in a single practice this week with a knee injury.
Thursday night will mark the Packers' first visit to CenturyLink Field in Seattle since their disastrous collapse in the 2015 NFC Championship Game.

Cobb, Perry, King and Brice. If we can't win without any or all of those guys then the situation is hopeless. I'm sure the team is quite used to playing without the services of Cobb, Perry and King by now and Brice just isn't any good.

King has shown he can be a good player, but he's not ever healthy. Brice is JAG and Perry and Cobb are below replacement level players.
What I was afraid of was Alexander and Breeland being out. Looks like they're going to give it a go.

Loss of King hurts flexibility among DB group. His length and ability in trail coverage are critical in the Packers man to man scheme. King being on the field allowed T. Williams to slide back to Safety, which brought the packers a major upgrade in coverage. Something they had planned to do with his signing before the season. Don't let your dislike for McCarthy cloud your judgement here. Perry and Cobb are starters for a reason, and their loss is critical to this team. For all the whining about Perry, his role has changed on this defense. His ability to command two blockers and crush the edge has allowed the interior to flourish in both sacks and stuffing the run. Packers have far less flex in their defensive schemes with him out. Cobb, Rodgers trusts him period end of story. As it is, we all knew that this would be the first and second years show at some point during the season. Well, it's here. Players who names we barely know will have a large impact on this game. As always on a short week, injuries, both pre and during the game will have a major say on who wins. Both teams could run out players at critical positions late in game (Green Bay OL in 2016 NFL champ game). Game planning will be pretty basic, so execution of game plan and mistakes need to be kept to an minimum as possible. This is a pick em game. Packers could win, but it will be tough. Looking forward to it.

Sadly, I don't think Perry being absent reduces the chance to win at all.

I would typically agree that not having Perry is no big deal because I believe, at this point, Fackrell is a better pass rusher and better at dropping into coverage (isn'tthat depressing) . However, Perry, as bad as he is, is better at setting the edge for the run game.
Seattle has the number one running game in the league. We need to stop the run and our D is ranked 22nd in the league.

The absence of Perry hurts for rotational and depth purposes. If Gilbert, Fackrell and CM3 stay healthy all game, Perry's absence won't be a big deal, but if one of them misses a quarter or a half, he will be missed.

Crawford, who has been a demon on kick coverage, can play OLB in a pinch. While listed as an ILB, he played productive OLB in college.
Perry could be addition by subtraction as Reggie and "Sackwell" will get important snaps. They need to play more and now they both will.

Not only are they sans 4 starters, but those 4 starters won’t be playing, either.

Man I just read this article on Brandon B-word about his healing process from depression and all the stuff he had to deal with and it literally just pissed me off all over again

With the exception of King being out, I doubt the other 3 will even be missed, especially Brice.

Frustrating to always see King on the injury report. Just don't see him ever playing a full season. Hopefully Greene shows out again and turns into a hidden gem.

I'm officially over King/Perry 2.0. Seems like a waste of a roster spot.

I thought Perry was in the witness protection program. I mean he's always listed as "out" every week and every year. Then when he does "play" you never see or here his name called unless its payday.

It's too bad King has had a string of injuries in his early career with the Packers. King is uber talented and I still believe he will be an outstanding Corner.
Sometimes it takes these young guys a few years to get their bodies right for the NFL rigors. I am optimistic King can come back soon and finish the season strong.
These young guys need to play and gain experience, it is the only way the Packers are ever going to get back to an elite level team.
The Packers need to start hitting on these draft choices, there have been way too many misses the past three or four years and it shows.
A record of 4-4 & 1 is exactly what the Packers are, average at best.
Cobb is gone at years end, Perry should be and Brice is backup material at best.
Go Pack!

Hayward struggled with injury issues his first few years too then recovered to be a very good player as TT let him walk....all the way to pro bowls with the Chargers.
King is the only starter we will sorely miss if Breeland can't go. If he can the D should be OK
ESB will continue to get meaningful snaps during Cobb's absence. He will be the starter in the slot next year anyway.
Miss Perry? SMH. Brice? Time for Josh Jones the display the skill set Pettine just loves in his Safeties and take over as the starter at SS as most expected in training camp. And the Raven will get to spread his wings, too! Tramon will get them in the right spots.
Packers average at best? MMs record over the last 49 games is 24-24-1 I believe. That is rather average!

Unfortunatly I see king as the new N Perry. Spend the first 4 years in the league on the trainers table. Then miraculously has an injury free 5th year to get the new contract. Then back to the trainers table the rest of his career. Too bad!! The kid has skills.

24-24-1 will get you fired with Aaron Rodgers at QB, even though he missed some of those games. The Patriots finished 11-5 or 10-6 the year Brady was out. Now that’s good coaching.
