Packers Practice Roundup, July 31, 2024
Doubs separates himself from the other WRs while Hicks and Wayne make cases for the practice squad. Dubose also challenges for the roster.

The Packers held a long, 2 hour and 8 minute practice in the heat on Tuesday. Wednesday’s practice will be the last practice prior to Saturday’s Family Night.
INJURY:
DL Keshawn Banks and DL Deslin Alexandre remain out. Tucker Kraft is the last player still on the NFI list. New injury to Carrington Valentine (hamstring). Donovan Jennings still out with a knee injury after previously being out with a hamstring injury. Edgerrin Cooper left practice and did not return, missing the majority of practice.
SCHEME:
Newman getting some looks with the ones at LG. Herman
Starters in team
Love, Jacobs, Wicks - Reed - Watson, Musgrave
Walker - EJ - Myers - Morgan - Telfort
Gary - Slaton - Clark - Smith
McDuffie - Quay
Jaire - Nixon - Stokes
AJJ - McKinney Herman [Always Slaton over Wyatt. TGR]
With right tackle Zach Tom still working his way back, the No. 1 line was Rasheed Walker, Elgton Jenkins, Josh Myers, Morgan and Kadeem Telfort. Andre Dillard got some first-team reps at right tackle, as well. Huber
Should Nixon play outside corner, or just play in the slot? There are some grumbles about Nixon outside but the team is going to determine if he is viable outside. TGR
OFFENSE:
Jordan Morgan certainly looks the part in 1v1. Beat Devonte Wyatt in 2 of 3 reps. Also won his only rep against TJ Slaton. Morgan’s ability to adapt and mirror is uncanny. Comes from good feet, the book on him when the :Packers drafted him in the first round. Wood
High snap from Monk to Clifford who can’t handle it. 2) Nice blocking by Morgan/Dillard on the right side to get Jacobs a nice pickup. Herman
Tyler Davis with a great block to get Love time. He throws deep downfield but Stokes all over it and breaks it up. Herman [Almost every practice Tyler Davis throws a notable block, though previously they mostly were on running plays. TGR]
Two really nice blocking reps by Tyler Davis. One creates space for Jacobs on the edge and the other is picking up Clark who burst through the line. Bretl
Grant DuBose with maybe catch of camp so far. Sean Clifford threw deep down right side up for grabs, and DuBose skied over safeties Evan Williams and Zayne Anderson for a 50-50 catch. The Packers already have an embarrassment of riches at receiver. Might need to add DuBose. [And Hicks is making a strong bid for the PS, anyway. TGR] 2) Grant DuBose got a first-team rep…and dropped a pass from Jordan Love. Got open on a stop route against Eric Stokes, but football slipped through his hands. Wood
Next play Clifford throws a perfect ball on a deep corner route to Toure. Williams in coverage.
Wilson stops Dillon in the backfield for a 2 yard loss. Nice play by 45. Clifford to Toure for about 4. Clifford misses DuBose on 3rd down. 4th and 7ish coming up. Clifford almost gets picked by Rochell. Broken up either way and turnover on downs. Herman [Not so good by Clifford. Toure and Dubose continue to contribute with the twos. TGR] 2) Clifford with an unreal throw to a diving DuBose who made an even better catch. Great play by those two. 3) Nice throws from Easton to Wayne on an out route. Wayne’s made some really nice plays in practice. [Another WR who is a PS candidate! TGR] 4) Jacobs nice job getting around the edge but the defense is begging for a holding call. Walker great block on Van Ness. Love has Musgrave open downfield but overthrows him. Dillon inside for a few. His feet look so much quicker this year.
False start OL. Play continues and Clifford throws a strike to Melton for about 11. Herman
Rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd, taking his first team reps of camp, got an introduction to an NFL practice. Stumbled in backfield and ran into a wall. Lloyd turned to head back to huddle, but he didn’t “finish” the run. RB coach Ben Sirmans nudged the rookie downfield. [Lloyd had a bobble on a hadoff from Eason. TGR] Wood
Dillon with a real nice run on a stretch play. Want to know how much different Dillon looks? He beat Cooper around the corner! Herman [I have omitted a couple of tweets about Dillon but should mention that he has had some nice runs in this practice and is having a good camp. TGR]
During one-on-ones, running back Emanuel Wilson had an excellent day. He took five reps against the touted rookie Cooper – two as a receiver and three as a pass protector. In protection, he had two excellent reps to end the drill. Huber
Down seven with 1:40 left and no timeouts on their own 35, starting offense marches down for a TD and successful two-point conversion. Love to Wicks on both. Favorable fourth-down call earlier in drive when McDuffie might’ve stuffed Jacobs, but offense stayed on and capitalized. 2) Love hits Watson for 40+ yards on a go ball down the left sideline past Nixon. Watson’s momentum took him to the ground as he caught it. Wasn’t the tightest of spirals, but Love put it on the money. 3) Plenty more 1-on-1 notes coming in today’s story, but Romeo Doubs beat Jaire Alexander twice again today and the first time was CLEAN. Jayden Reed also looked good against Keisean Nixon. Love hit him for a deep TD down the left side after Reed got good separation. Schneidman
Xavier McKinney undercuts Jordan Love pass to Bo Melton on crosser for INT. Badly underthrown over middle. But here’s where Melton’s scrappiness is special…Melton gets up and chases McKinney down, forcing fumble from behind. Lot of WRs quit on that practice rep. Not Melton. [Same play as under the defense caption, but a different angle. TGR] Wood
DEFENSE:
Kingsley Enagbare had a flashy win in 1 on 1s but also a few nice pressures too in team. Hodkiewicz
Quay Walker shows off his ridiculous speed on a screen to the outside to Jacobs. Quay all over it for no gain. Now a swing to Jacobs outside and Bullard is all over it for a loss. This defense flies. Love deep down the field for about 40 to Watson. Hits him in stride. Nixon was the outside CB in coverage. [Two nice plays by the ILB and safety, but the bomb negates them. TGR] 2) Jacobs shows some burst up field but they only give him 4 on the run. AJJ all over a WR screen to Watson. Loss on the play. Love to Doubs for 8 and a first down. No Jaire right now. Nixon and Stokes outside with Bullard in the slot. Love buys time but can’t find anything and throws away over the head of Musgrave. Quay all over a run to Jacobs. Not much on the gain. Jaire now in for Stokes. Nixon still outside. Love hits Musgrave but only a couple. 4th and 4 ish coming up. Which they decide against. New series. [Nixon and the defense hold up. Another win for the defense. TGR] Herman
To be fair, I thought Rashan Gary had a sack on the third-and-10 scramble. But it’s practice, so coaches let the play extend. And you can’t give Love extra chances at this point, he’ll burn you. 2) Jordan Love comes back on the next third down to drop a dime to open Dontayvion Wicks on a deep corner for about 40 yards, but Wicks drops it. Off his finger tips. Wood
1:40 left down 7 no timeouts. Ball on 35. 1st and 10. 2’s up first. LVN & Enagbare combine for a sack of Clifford. Incomplete pass to Heath. False start by Telfort but the play continues and Clifford throws a ball right to a dropping Colby Wooden but he can’t pull the Raji. He drops it. Re-do of third down for some reason. Complete to Melton for a handful. Clock ticks. 4th down. Checkdown to Lloyd but Rochell is all over it. Defense wins easy. Herman
Jordan Love throws it right to Xavier McKinney over the middle during move the ball period and McKinney holds onto the INT a day after dropping an easy one. Looked like McKinney fumbled as he got up and the offense recovered, though. Schneidman
Karl Brooks jumps offsides on a love hard count. Love throws outside to Melton but Ballentine with great coverage incomplete. 2) McDuffie has been a run stopping machine. All over a Dillon run. Herman
The other rookie linebacker, third-rounder Ty’Ron Hopper, had a tremendous coverage rep against running back Ellis Merriweather, with Hopper deflecting a deep pass. 2) In one-on-one pass rushing/protection, Rashan Gary beat right tackle Telfort with a wicked spin move and rookie lineman Jacob Monk leveled defensive lineman Spencer Waege. Huber
One on Ones:
Reed beats Nixon.
Leaping attempt from Sims vs Bullard but incomplete.
Short completion to Watson vs Stokes.
Wicks beats rochell on a slant.
McKinney perfect coverage on Musgrave.
King phenomenal coverage on Toure.
Doubs with an absolutely sick route vs Jaire for the win.
Balentine punches out the ball on Melton.
Reed toasts Nixon down the sideline for a big gain.
Sims with a great move that left Bullard way behind.
Hicks not on same page with QB
J. Wilson with a step on Williams but couldn’t make a diving catch.
Ballentine perfect coverage on Stanley.
Heath toasts Callis for a deep td.
Jaire unreal coverage and Doubs still wins with a beautiful catch.
Overthrow to Toure vs King. Solid coverage.
Watson slant win vs Stokes
Sims wins easy vs Bullard again
Reed nice little in n out route for a completion vs Nixon.
Wayne toasts Callis for a td.
Melton beats King on an out route.
Herman
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Bo Melton downs a perfect punt at the 5 yard line. 2) Nixon and Rochell first up as gunners on punt team. Stokes tried jamming Rochell but 22 flew right by him. Whelan murdered the ball. It’s dead. RIP ball. Herman
MISCELLANEOUS:
Love completed a handful of swing passes/screens to Josh Jacobs. Combined, they probably gained 0 yards. Later, safety Anthony Johnson blew up a receiver screen to Watson. Clearly, the Packers need to work on their perimeter blocking. Huber
Matt LaFleur on Devonte Wyatt: "He's come in in probably the best shape he's ever been in. His effort running between the whistles has been as good as anybody. So I do expect him to take a leap this year. I think what we do is beneficial to his skillset, and I'm excited for him." Wood [As Justis Mosqueda noted, Slaton has been getting the reps with the ones, and yesterday Wooden got #1 reps leaving Wyatt without #1 reps. I think it could be motivation to light a fire under Wyatt, or perhaps it could just be an acknowledgment that Slaton is going to play a good deal to help with the run. TGR]
Eric Wilson seems to be distancing himself in the battle with second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper to be one of the three linebackers in the base defense. Speaking of linebackers, third-round pick Ty’Ron Hopper replaced Quay Walker for a snap at middle linebacker. Huber [Not that Cooper doesn’t show flashes. TGR]

It is still early but here is what I have deduced from these reports:
OL - Walker, EJ, Myers, Morgan, Tom (Morgan > Rhyan)
No backups worth a tinkers dam, and the Starters are getting their asses kicked usually by the defense. Have to wait to see if Caleb Jones or Donovan Jennings can help because Telfort, then Dillard, then Tenuta don't look viable. Rhyan got snaps at RG and KG, and some 2nd string snaps at center. No idea why Newman is not getting mentions but I don't read about him losing reps or giving up pressures. I don"t THINK it's because he got better, at any rate.
TE: Musgrave, Kraft, Davis and Sims. Locks
RB: Jacobs, Lloyd (draft status), Dillon and then ? Wilson. keep top 3
QB: Love, Pratt. Who knows btw Clifford and Eason or somone else.
WR: Reed, Doubs, Watson, Wicks. Dubose, Melton, and Heath for 2 spots. Loser probably lost to waivers with Hicks and Wayne to the PS. Loaded room. Melton working as a gunner. Heath has dropped some passes, but he brings blocking and physicality. Dubose perhaps can match the physicality, though. Too close to call.
DL: Clark, Slaton > Wyatt, then Wyatt, Brooks, and Wooden. Slaton starts and Wyatt rotates and/or becomes a pass rush specialist to a certain extent.
OLB: Gary, Preston, Enagbare, LVN. then Brenton Cox if only because Banks has been hurt.
ILB: Quay. McDuffie for run stopping. Wilson over Cooper for nickel but Cooper is going to get every chance to figure it out in terms of reps/playing time due to his higher ceiling. 4 ILBs make it. Hopper makes it due to draft status - he has just started to win some reps.
Safety: Bullard has been good though his coverage causes a ding now and again. Williams has certainly exceeded early expectations. What is clear is that McKinney starts, and they sort out Bullard, Williams, Olapado over time, and perhaps situationally.
CB: Looking better. Stokes is looking better. Valentine is challenging. Jaire is good. Ballentine is back practicing and with his contract is a lock to make this team.. Nixon is okay at slot, and they are giving him reps outside to see if he is viable there. Kalen King has more than flashed and looks like he may well make the team. Maybe they keep 6 (JA, Stokes, Vallentine, Ballentine, Nixon, King)? I think so.

I am not disagreeing with you but I will be surprised if Pratt beats Clifford for QB2. I believe Pratt might be a better option in 2 or 3 years but Clifford was a 5th round pick and he has one year in the system.
Eason will be left out and not given an opportunity as there are not enough practice reps.

MLF intimated yesterday 4 QBs is too many due to limited reps. Expect a move after Family Night and Eason will likely be gone.

Thanks again, buddy.
You still call them outside linebackers? Is that just to separate the edge/tackles from the inside to keep track of the numbers for the 53?
Have you noticed them actually lining up in the 4-3? If so, who's predominantly in the middle?

I had the same observation. The OLBs are now DE's.
The Packer HOFer and perennial All Pro OLB Reggie White?

TGR, the previous two drafts that we had were excellent. You are in a perfect position to provide us with a comparison of this year's draft with the prior two drafts.
It would be great if you give us your expert take on this comparison in the not too distant future....subject to change of course as the season(s) goes on!

"""Have to wait to see if Caleb Jones or Donovan Jennings can help because Telfort, then Dillard, then Tenuta don't look viable""""
But at least we'll have Morgan instead of Rhyan at guard. Because apparently he can't beat out Walker, Jones, Jennings, Telford, or Dillard.
I like the defensive front. Every single guy, starter or rotation guy, is a solid player. We could line up VanNess, Wyatt, Brooks, Enagbare....all backups....and still have a pretty good group on the field. This should be a real strength for us this year.

August 01, 2024 at 01:21 pm
You are apparently correct that Morgan can't beat out Walker at tackle. But he may be able to beat out those other guys as a backup tackle. We'll see what happens. For now, I'd rather have Morgan starting at guard if he is a significant upgrade over Rhyan instead of riding the bench as a backup tackle. This season, he may very well end up as a starting guard who can slide over to tackle if there is an injury at that position, which would make him an extremely valuable O-lineman, and worthy of being a first round pick.

August 02, 2024 at 02:05 pm
Yeah, I agree with GregC. Coaches saw a black hole at RG while all the other starting positions were already filled by at least somewhat adequate to quite good players. So, Morgan got practically no snaps at OT despite Tom being out. [If Morgan can't play OT then GB made a mistake not drafting Graham Barton at 25, but that is another argument for another day.]
Problem is that Morgan has not taken the bull by the horns at OG. Unfortunately, it looks like Morgan needs time to develop in order to be as good as Runyan/Rhyan rotation. If he needs the reps at OG then he needs the reps since plugging the huge hole at RG is the priority.
If the coaches ever give him any reps at OT, I suspect Morgan should be able to beat out the likes of Dillard, Tenuta and probably Telfort. Can't beat out Caleb except for time in ice bath, as Jones can't get on the field. Yeah, I would hope a first round pick can beat out those rejects to the swing tackle if he isn't needed as the starter at OG.

I am glad to see Kingsley Enagbare is healthy and practicing. I am interested in seeing what he can do. Not sure if he will ever be starting caliber but I believe he can be a very good back up.

The big training camp battles I was expecting have mostly not been close--at least not yet. Stokes clearly has the upper hand over Valentine, although Valentine has played well, so it's still a battle. Morgan vs. Walker at LT has not happened and looks like it never will happen. Instead they've gone directly to Morgan vs. Rhyan, with Morgan apparently leading. Clifford vs. Pratt has not really happened yet in spite of the fact that Clifford has struggled. Maybe Pratt will get more chances as training camp continues.
Now it looks like Dubose vs. Heath could be a battle. Evan Williams appears to be about even with Javon Bullard for the second starting safety spot. And maybe it will be a fight for Edgerrin Cooper to get more snaps than Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson. I'm looking forward to seeing what Marshawn Lloyd can do.
(I think the first sentence of this article should say that the 2 hour and 8 minute practice was on Wednesday, not Tuesday.)

You are correct. However, it took me 2 and a half hours to coax the publishing software to publish this article. I am not messing with it to make that correction, if only because I have no idea what I did that finally worked.
Some of these training camp battles are for snaps and some are for a roster spot. All three rookie safeties are going to make the 53-man roster (well, Olapado has yet to play). The only issue is whether AJJ makes the 53 - he has flashed and probably does unless there is a numbers problem elsewhere. The battle between Emanuel Wilson and Dillon is for a roster spot, not playing time. Ditto Heath, Melton, and Dubose. Maybe a trade, there. I'd want out of GB if I were one of those guys and I lost that camp battle.
I'd like to see LVN wreak havoc against the number ones instead of the twos has been terrorizing.

Enjoy what I am reading about Rasheed Walker. I liked him fine last year most of the time, but he was not consistent. He'd look great for a several snaps then get badly exposed whiffing a run block or getting beat on the blind side. (was spoiled by the standard from a healthy Bakhtiari)
It seems he worked very hard in the offseason on strength and conditioning. But his down to down consistency is showing up! He is making me a believer.
Morgan has instantly shored up the weak links middle and I think Rhyan is going to be the backup G. Still waiting to see what Monk can do at C or G.
Jenks, Tom, Morgan as 5 starters who can start at IOL or at T is a HUGE advantage for a 20 or 21 game season.

I'm pulling for Romeo-
Nixon is the weak link in the cornerback room. Anyone listening?
GregC
August 01, 2024 at 11:40 am
The Packers aren't listening, if the contract they gave Nixon is any indication. And I don't think it was just for his kick returning abilities. I'm mostly hearing good things about Nixon in training camp so far. Fingers crossed that he will have a good season. If not, Kalen King has shown some spark as a slot defender. Or maybe they could try Javon Bullard in there, especially if Evan Williams continues to play well at safety.

August 01, 2024 at 03:24 pm
I think you've hit it about right: they either believe returns are going to be a much bigger part of the game, or they have more than just special teams in mind for Nixon. Even if he's not the strongest CB in the room, your pointing to Bullard, Williams, or even McKinney as additional slot guys makes a lot of sense.
Grandfathered
August 02, 2024 at 11:16 pm
The new kickoff rules and formations are intended to bring return rates to close to 50%. If Nixon is playing both return and kickoff teams, then his contract might be for teams first and hope that he can be backup slot or outside backup. Intertesting Nixon is practicing outside. I would like to see one of Bullard or AJJ or King show starting slot coverage ability.

August 01, 2024 at 04:26 pm
No, he's not the weak link.
He was one of the few defenders who played in all 17 games.
He had the 3rd most defensive snaps last year, one less than Clark and more than any other DB.
He tied for team lead in tackles with Quay Walker.
So, the weak link is the guy who shows up every week and leads the team in tackles. Right.

August 01, 2024 at 04:50 pm
When you're a DB, if you dont allow completions to receivers you are covering or that are in your zone, you tend to have fewer tackles.
Hope he proves me wrong, but i think he's a marginal option as a db.
Leatherhead
August 01, 2024 at 06:49 pm
The Packers defense only allowed 360 completions, one of the lowest totals in the league. They also only allowed 6.2 net yards/attempt, which is very average. He allowed about 3-4 short completions/game. He gave up 3 TD receptions in 17 games.

Leatherhead,
You're right, I haven't watched the 31 other nicklebacks closely in 2023. What I do know is what good DB play looks like, and the only thing I see from Nixon on the field that I see as a plus is attitude. His overall play as I see it is nothing more than average. He gives up an awful lot of completions. He does not jump out on film to me at all.
Don't know if the site will let me post a link or not, but take a look at Nixon's 2023 metrics and efficiency:
**It won't let me. Replace the @ with . and you know what the address starts with***
@playerprofiler@com/nfl/keisean-nixon/
Now for comparison, look at Jaire Alexander's (There's a player search bar in the upper right hand of the screen).. Okay, that's not fair, right? Agreed.
Look at Carrington Valentine's metrics.. Hmm..
Let's look at Corey Ballentine's metrics...
Valentine is a 7th round selection rookie. Granted, he played very well. Ballentine is a former 6th round selection in his 5th year who has played for 4 teams in his career. Both have objectively performed better than Nixon on the field of play in terms of efficiency.
What makes you believe Nixon is so good that the Packers shouldn't be looking for better?
Now, one thing I will give Keisean is his man coverage efficiency was good. Maybe that's a bonus under hafley. We'll see. But I 100% stand by my observations that Keisean has been just a guy on the field at Nickle so far. Looks like the Metrics mostly confirm my eye.
LLCHESTY
August 02, 2024 at 10:11 am
He allowed a 77% completion percentage, had a 104 passer rating allowed and had an 11% missed tackle rate. Your eyes didn't deceive you, he was a very average nickel last year.
Thegreatreynoldo
August 02, 2024 at 02:14 pm
Nixon is at best okay as a slot. I put him somewhere between marginal and okayish. He ain't average starting quality. PFF has him graded a little higher than I would have at 59. He makes up for his coverage somewhat by being pretty physical. Still, his yards after catch average of 4.0/reception and his 11.3% missed tackle percentage are things that detract. 104 passer rating. Maybe it was the scheme, but no one wants that on their resume.
LLCHESTY
August 02, 2024 at 06:01 pm
He was better in '22 than '23 so I guess there's hope he can at least repeat that season. The 1st lineup in dime contained three safeties and I think they'll have some three safety looks in nickel as well. Bullard, Williams and AJJ are all playing well in camp so far but not doing individual drills with the nickels so far.

Thanks for the confirmation, Chesty, but I know what I'm watching.
I went ahead and looked up his metrics and posted the kinda-sorta link for Leatherhead and mr. "vibes" to check out for themselves.
I'm a firm believer that our eyes can, and often do, deceive us, but I have a pretty good sense of what I'm watching on the football field most of the time.
Will Nixon turn into a good to very good Nickle back? Well, it's possible. I'd be happy if he showed me up. Has Nixon put any work on the field as a DB that was better than average during 22 and 23? I don't think so.
LLCHESTY

Stop with this silliness of defending players just because they played a lot of snaps. Just because a guy starts doesn't make them good, just the best option on the team. Nixon was a very average nickel defender last year. The saying good is the enemy of great applies here, all three rookie safeties played considerable snaps at nickel on college. If Evan Williams continues to play well I wouldn't be surprised to see Bullard get some snaps at nickel. Most colleges are playing nickel with a safety now and Hafley will gradually move in that direction.
Leatherhead
August 02, 2024 at 11:08 am
Silliness? SNAPS Matter. It means there isn't anybody else you'd rather have on the field. He also was one of our leading tacklers. HE WAS A CORE MEMBER of a better than average secondary.
Again with the average. Please do me a favor. Rank all 32 nickels in the league so I know who the really good nickels are. In fact, to make it simpler for you, just list the nickels who had a better season than Nixon last year. Or can I just Google, "Best nickel backs in NFL?"
As usual, you don't give credit to value of experience, and assume that a rookie will do just as well as a guy who's been around the block a couple of times. Do yourself a favor.....rewatch Nixon in the playoffs against Dalllas and SF and tell me how average is he.
Thegreatreynoldo
August 02, 2024 at 02:31 pm
Jonathan Owens (775snaps) got almost as many snaps as Nixon at 809. That didn't stop the Packers from jettisoning Owens, and it did not mean that Owens was worth more than $1.9M AAV. That because Owens is not very good. One can live with him, and safeties don't make much.
Leatherhead
August 02, 2024 at 04:34 pm
I agree. They jettisoned him because he wasn't very good. Here's the deal about snaps......you've got to have somebody to line up. You can't just put 10 men on the field. You can't just put an OT in as a slot defender. You've got to have somebody that you can count on. Nixon won the starting nickel spot early and kept it all year. They had some very good games and their pass defense rated in the Top Ten in fewest yards and completions. And they accomplished this DESPITE having such a mediocre nickel (combined with bad safeties and injured corners)
Look.......just watch the games against Dallas and SF. Watch Nixon closely/exclusively. Look at who he's guarding. Then if you still believe he's JAG then I'll just have to respect that.

August 02, 2024 at 01:57 pm
here you go. he's an nfl starter. proven. he's a team leader, with the respect of his coaches.
hopefully, there is no position on the field that the coaches would be unwilling to upgrade, but until there is an upgrade, he's the guy. even if he's bang average, he's literally (assuming average is about 16 starters out of 32) one of 16 guys on the planet who are an average starting slot corner in the NFL. Consider that (if you will)
Nixon is a hitter, he's aggressive, and in Hafley's defense (I've been led to believe) aggressive is an attribute. It's fine for people to not like a player, or think they're less than perfect, but for this team he is an asset.

looks like we're all approaching a truth. if there's someone better they will likely play. i don't particularly have any sort of jones for Nixon, just that he's not less than an NFL player out there, and until someone does the job better, well, he's an NFL corner and a leader of the special teams.

Can't help but be impressed by the reported energy and performance of the defense so far. Admittedly, it was against Clifford and Pratt early, but they've continued to make plays in practice. We've seen this in the recent past, too--the defense comes in all fire in camp, but ends up very mediocre when it matters. Hopefully they've turned a corner.
No qualms with Morgan playing RG--clearly they believe they have a starter on the left side in Walker and that Tom will hold down the right side. They could give Morgan snaps at RT but, if they see him as being their best RG prospect, practice snaps at RT take away time getting comfortable at RG. Whatever the case, depth at IOL is so lacking that I think adding Morgan to the middle does more to shore up the line than shoehorning him in as the swing tackle.
A little concerned with the INTs from 10, but it's camp and he's only a couple practices into it. If he's throwing a lot of picks in late August yet, we should start to ask why.
This is a very deep WR room. You can't keep everyone, and waiver pickups at cutdowns are rare, but you keep your best, try to sign guys you like to the PS, and don't look back. Someone posted yesterday that the Packers weren't doing a good enough job of playing keep away in the draft (by taking guys other teams would want) or with their cuts--that's just elfin' stupid roster management. It could be that one of these UDFAs will develop a mysterious injury at the end of camp and end up redshirting on IR for 2024, though.

Yeah, I sometimes read posts from people who think another team (usually a division rival) is going to draft a player just so the Packers can't get him. It makes zero sense. You are competing against 31 other teams. So are you going to use your draft pick to make your team better or to prevent one of the other 31 teams from getting better? Which of those options gives you more bang for your buck?
