Green Bay has always been a tough place to play for visiting teams, and historically that has been especially true in the playoffs. In recent years the Packers have dropped some home playoff games, but with the way they’ve been playing this year—with an 8-0 record at Lambeau—a road team will have a tough time stealing a win. The Cowboys believe they can be that team, having their own perfect record on the road this season (8-0). The NFC East and NFC North division champs will face off this weekend with a trip to the conference title game on the line.  

The fact that these two teams faced off in the legendary Ice Bowl only adds to the allure of a potential instant classic, which helps push Green Bay Packers tickets on the secondary market to $231 on average ($135 to get in the door). It’s actually a terrific bargain on paper, though, especially with an entry into the NFC title game on the line. The Green Bay Packers haven’t really allowed defenses to stay fresh at home this year. In fact, they’ve just about blown the hinges off in every contest at Lambeau, as they’ve gone a perfect 8-0 en route to yet another NFC North title. Aaron Rodgers comes into this game with a calf issue, but has had two weeks to heal up and lead his sixth-ranked offense into the Divisional Round and could be roaring to blow up the Cowboys and make them the ninth visiting casualty.

Avoiding turnovers is a huge key, but getting off to a hot start early may be mission number one. If the Packers can do that, it will put all the pressure on Romo and potentially have Dallas playing right into their hand. That isn’t the recipe Green Bay followed when Matt Flynn worked his magic in Dallas last year, but it’s about the story of that 2010 blowout. Tony Romo hasn’t had all that much success against the Packers recently, losing three straight, including a 17-7 battle in 2009 at Lambeau.

That gives the Cowboys just 14 total points in their last two trips to the Frozen Tundra, and if that trend continues, Dallas could be in trouble. They appear to very much be a formula team, and if the Pack can jump out on top of them early, they’ll have to get away from their predetermined strategy and fight fire with fire. That could make for an exciting shootout, but that’s probably not the type of battle Dallas wants to find itself in with the season on the line.
