Packers 46-Man Roster Prediction for Week 4 at Bears
Wide receiver Jeff Janis is predicted to be active for the first time this season in Chicago.
Here's our best guess at predicting the Green Bay Packers' game-day roster for Sunday's Week 4 match-up at the Chicago. Reminder, only 46 players can be active.
The entire roster is included. Those bold and italicized are predicted to be inactive...
Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn, Scott Tolzien
Running Back: Eddie Lacy, John Kuhn, James Starks, DuJuan Harris
Wide Receiver: Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Jarrett Boykin, Davante Adams, Jeff Janis
Tight End: Richard Rodgers, Andrew Quarless, Brandon Bostick, Ryan Taylor
Offensive Line: David Bakhtiari, Josh Sitton, Corey Linsley, T.J. Lang, Bryan Bulaga, Derek Sherrod, Lane Taylor, Garth Gerhart
Defensive Line: Mike Daniels, Datone Jones, Letroy Guion, Josh Boyd, Mike Pennel
Outside Linebackers: Julius Peppers, Clay Matthews, Mike Neal, Nick Perry, Jayrone Elliott
Inside Linebackers: A.J. Hawk, Brad Jones, Jamari Lattimore, Sam Barrington, Carl Bradford
Cornerbacks: Sam Shields, Tramon Williams, Davon House, Casey Hayward, Jarrett Bush, Demetri Goodson
Safeties: Morgan Burnett, Micah Hyde, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Sean Richardson
Specialists: Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode
Notes:
- Jarrett Boykin (groin and knee) and Brad Jones (quadriceps) have both been listed as "questionable" for Sunday's game and neither are predicted to play.
- Clay Matthews (groin), Nick Perry (wrist), Davon House (knee) and Bryan Bulaga (knee) are all listed as "probable" for Sunday's game and all are predicted to play.
- If Boykin ends up being inactive, it could open the door for fellow wide receiver Jeff Janis being on the active list for the first time this season.
- After being active for one game against the Jets, defensive lineman Mike Pennel found himself back on the inactive list last week and is predicted to do so again.
- If Jones is inactive, it would be the third consecutive game he'll miss.
- The Packers still have not filled Andy Mulumba's spot on the 53-man roster, meaning they only have to have six inactive players on Sunday if the roster remains the same.

There are the perpetual inactives: Tolzien, Bradford and Goodson. Need 3 more. Gerhart and Lane Taylor have been active for every game. Gerhart should become a perpetual inactive when Tretter returns (maybe Lane Taylor is perpetually inactive too when Tretter returns if Linsley or Tretter can back-up at guard).
Need 3 more out of Janis, Pennel, Elliott, Gerhart, Taylor, or someone injured (here maybe Boykin, Brad Jones or maybe CMIII), or a surprise ST guy like Bush, Ryan Taylor, Richardson, maybe Kuhn. Brian predicts Elliott and Janis due to injury, with Pennel the odd man out. The WR injury and shortness at LB (especially with CMIII nursing a groin injury) makes these choices seem sensible.
If Janis is not activated, it suggests that he is really in the coaches' doghouse. I suppose they might choose Pennel instead considering we are playing Chicago with Matt Forte, and might like to rotate.

Why would Janis be in the dog house?

Not sure why Janis would be "in the coaches doghouse." He can relax though. Dan Devine isn't coach so being in the doghouse isn't necessarily a fatal event.

Or maybe they feel janis doesn't have the necessary knowledge of the playbook to be trusted yet???

I meant that If Janis is not activated if Boykin cannot play, leaving only Nelson, Cobb, and Adams as WRs, it would have to because the coaches and/or A.Rodgers don't trust Janis to know the playbook and route adjustments. Going into a game with only 3 WRs might be a problem if there were to be an injury.
I therefore assume that Janis will be active if Boykin can't go, and I wonder if Janis will return kicks if he is active.

If it makes no sense then bet the way of no sense. This is the best NFL betting advice I ever received. Just last week Oakland only a dog of 14 on the road. That's too low they said. Cover

I believe Jeff will do well. Need more speed on the field with Jordy , Cobb . Also need to run some screen play with D. Harris.

I want to see Janis, Pennell and Elliott on the field against the Bears. They won't hesitate to put these guys on the field when injuries strike at their positions so why wait. Get them some meaniful playing time before they are forced to play full time in place of an injured player.
Right now we don't know but theres a chance all 3 of these guys are better than the guys that have been playing at their positions through the first 3 games. Most of the time a backup is a backup because there are better players playing ahead of them. I don't believe that to be the case with these 3 guys.
Boykin, Perry and Guion/Boyd haven't exactly lit the world on fire with their play so far so why not see whats behind door number 2 or 3.
Sitting some of those guys might also light a fire under their asses to play better the next time they see the field.

Hopefully Jeff Janis gets his his chance to shine. He made the 53 man roster so let him play. Opposing defense know you are targeting Nelson, cob and Lacy. Hopefully Janis play as well as Harris because we need to play with some speed. Power is ok when it works. I'm just saying!

So when the Packers win, you'll disappear for a week like after the jets game. Once again you'll be wrong as usual.

The offensive line is not in sequence for lacy to to hit any hole, plus A-Rod do need more targets to take the pressure off of Jordy. Opposing defenses stack the box forcing Rodgers to throw the ball. In order to beat that kind of defense you have to have speed and throw short passes to keep the defense off their heels. Trying to run the ball with a power back will not work unless he has some speed. Regardless of our opinion, We (Packers) cannot go with the same game plan prior to the bears game.
