Oozing corporate from every pore,
This is what we have in store?
Oh well - such is the Goodell NFL.

What, you think the NFL is a backyard game between friends? It’s somewhat of a miracle that a the team has survived in such a small market. And that is handled by the business folks who keep GB competitive not only on the field but in terms of the stadium, practice facilities and such. Thanks to Bob Harlan, Mark Murphy and now Ed Policy. It is a frigging corporation. Who do you want to run it? It sure sounded like he lets the football guys run the football side while making sure they stay financially viable enough to do that.

If that’s the case, he would have gone back to the Harlen structure this off season. Take himself out of it, leave the football side to a GM unless that GM isn’t delivering.

It wasn't so easy to go back. In order for that to happen LaFleur would have had to leave. You can't just change the terms of his contract to make him report to someone who he was level with on the reporting chart. Ditto with Ball. The only point where that will happen is when it's time to hire a new HC

Also, how often in your professional life have you seen someone give up power? I've never seen it. I've seen executive VP's vying to be CEO and when one of them got the brass ring, the other immediately left the org. Like little Eliot Wolf - like Andrew Brandt before him.
We won't see an empowered Director of Football Ops in our lifetime. That ship sailed the moment Murphy seized the power.

Sometimes leadership is about doing the right thing because it’s necessary despite being hard. Not correcting an error because it requires change is a good way to get further off track. That is what a leader is paid for.

All he’s doing is making sure the 3 guys under him are communicating and are on the same page. You wanna go back to the way it was under Ted Thompson? That didn’t end up working that well. As it turns out he wasn’t even speaking to Mike McCarthy, the last few seasons.

What, when Murphy made Ball, an accountant with one year as a strength and conditioning assistant de facto GM and he did not communicate with his coach?
You want communication, you make a football side person solely responsible and then you enforce that and stay out. Only football people should arbitrate football matters. Now there are 3 sub chiefs not 2.
Organizational incoherence and probably influencing some of the things people find head scratching. At some point think, don’t tug your forelock.

I understand the business of the NFL - which certainly has made the League more profitable - but the games not necessarily more entertaining / watchable. As for Harlan and Murphy - their personalities better suited the Packers community. With Policy - he seems less organic - more A1. So not complementary to authentic Packers culture.

The impression I got is that he's too cozy with his colleagues and he is beholden to his "data points", like MLF's regular season record. No mention of the playoff record, though, the fact that we haven't been to a Super Bowl in an eternity, or that we cratered at the end of the season... Every interview with this guy is bound to be a drab, business-as-usual affair.

So scratching-off dynamic leadership under this management.

I really don’t know what you’re seeing. He was friendly, approachable, answered all their questions and seemed very authentic. His focus is on the business side of things. So many fans complained about the all shucks manner of Mark Murphy. This guy is a professional, and now you’re complaining that he acts professionally? There’s really no pleasing some people.

how can you be optimistic when you don't have a first round draft pick?

I prefer to see the world as it is. Not on how others project it.

No kidding. Personally, I think all the hate comes from fans, wanting the head coach and maybe the GM to be fired. They somehow thought that that would make the team better I guess. I thought he gave him a really reasonable answer when I asked the question about those extensions and fans responses to them.

nobody asked the most important questions.
mr Policy, it's 16 yrs with no SB, what are you going to do to take us to SB?
mr Policy, the Front Office structure under Murphy was quite a mess, why are you not changing It giving the real Power to our GM? because now you can't blame one person for the disaster, because there Is no one man with the total control of football operations.
mr Policy, 7 years later, that April 2020 night has become a total disaster. NO SB. now we have a QB from that night which clearly Is not the answer. We have a GM that made that big mistake. what are you going to do to change all this?
We do not care about titletown and so on...we want SB!

The words SUPER BOWL were never uttered by Packer President Policy nor by the two individuals asking (lobbing?) him questions during this "interview."
Nor was there any discussion about just the 1 playoff win over the past 5 seasons, Gute & MLF's 3-6 overall playoff record, and not winning the NFC North (while the other 3 teams all have) since 2021.
Much discussion by President Policy about how EXCEPTIONAL MLF is and how much he personally admires and respects MLF, Gute, and Ball.

There are several teams in the NFL with the same kind of structure. And why do you think it was a mess? These guys all seem to get along well and the team seems to be moving in the right direction with continued playoff appearances. Do you really really want to go back to the days when the GM was in charge, and Ted Thompson was not even speaking to Mike McCarthy. How did that work out? That’s no way to build a winning roster.

WTF are you talking about. Ted not speaking to Mike, that never happened.
the_gavia_pass
April 24, 2026 at 04:06 am
which are these several teams?
Ted got really sick at some point, that Is the problem.
He also was not lucky at all, he lost Nick Collins, a potential HOF, Jermichael Finley a really great TD.
The problem was not Ted not talking to Mike (totally false) but Murphy taking more and more control of football operations. That was the time when Murphy started to say that SB was not the goal, stability was the goal, avoid bad seasons was the goal.
he said It in interviews, few people really listened to him and understand what was happening to GB. Just ONE journalist got It, Bob McGinn and later he was fired.

1989. First year with Bob Harlan as president.
GM braatz, HC Infante.
the tony mandarich infamous night happend, the second worse draft in packers history (1st was 2020).
Bob Harlan decided not to change anything even if braatz missed on 3 HOF.
1990. second year with Bob Harlan.
he decided to stick to braatz and infante.
the packers collapsed.
1991. 3rd year with Harlan.
he decided to stick again to braatz and infante BUT he hired Ron Wolf.
the packers collapsed again.
1992.
finally Harlan woke up and fired braatz and infante.
Wolf was appointed GM and Wolf hired Holmgren,
the rest Is history.
you have this year and the next, mr Policy, it's your Bob Harlan assurance.
Harlan lost 3 years but later on he built a legendary career.
2 more years.

Policy was very articulate and his responses were very well considered. I like Murphy a lot, but I have more confidence in the New Guy now.
