A message to all the bloggers whining about Packer GM Gutes drafts ... EDGERRIN COOPER , hes a rookie and already is an impact
player reminds me of a young Lawrence Taylor, only ECoop can drop and cover the middle better than LT ever did. IMHO ... Gutes drafts to me have been good if not great take a look at the starters coming off the 2022 draft. He also got studs in R Doubs 4th round Tucker Kraft 3rd round Evan Williams 4th round. These are picks many NFL GMs are now wondering how they could have missed.

@ET-it's not 'whining' to be concerned about too many under-performing D Draft picks pariculary #1-2's There is currently a Draft pick chosen in the 3rd round who has been unable to play as he still needs development. A #3 should be ready to play. (Ty'Ron Hopper)

OK NFL fan I hear you ... but you don't have to be concerned about your 1-2s playing like 3-4s when your 3-4s are playing like 1-2s ... there just numbers anyway
( I think Brady was a 5 wasn't he )

This is a MINOR quibble, but you might want to pump the brakes slightly on the LT comparisons, if only because LT was an edge while Cooper is an ILB.
Doesn't detract from your point about what a pleasant revelation Cooper has been, though.

I don't know why he reminds you of LT since they play completely different spots but that is a very unfair comparison. Cooper had a great game but I saw LT a bunch and he's no LT. LT played 40 years ago and outweighed Cooper by 30 lb, was mainly an outside rusher(Edge) in a 3-4 and was a game wrecker. Cooper had a great game but let's not get crazy.

LT was also jacked up on cocaine and was certifiably insane. He was as you noted an outside linebacker, nothing at all like Cooper. Honestly, there was nobody like Lawrence Taylor. Ever.
My favorite story about him was after he shattered Joe Theisman's leg while Joe was being stretchered off he said to Lawrence, "I'll be back" and Lawrence looked at him and said "not today".

I should have said Coop physically reminds me of LT, somewhat lighter at this time Hafley has rushed him off the edge a couple times, but yes LT was an edge destroyer... I remember him pummeling Packer QB Randy Wright several times at County Stadium put some real hurt in Wright back when sackers could unload on a QB.

I really didn't know much about Cooper coming out of college. But I was really impressed with his highlight reel and could see his speed and instincts were at a very high level. I hope he can stay healthy and think he will only get better the more he plays.

Cooper was a draft crush of mine, so happy when Gute got him.
Looks as good in the pros as he did at A&M
