Cory's Corner: Jordan Love Should Hand Out Spatulas

A lot of national pundits will be looking foolish after Love proves them wrong.

Many people think all of the pressure this season is on Jordan Love.

It isn’t. All of the pressure is on the Packers defense. That unit has so much talent, there are no excuses why they don’t perform and perform well this year.

And that’s why Jordan Love doesn’t have to be a great quarterback. If he’s average, the Packers can be a playoff team if the defense holds the opposing team to 17 points or less.

But here’s the kicker: what I’ve seen from Love in camp and in preseason, he’s not going to be average. In fact, far from it. When the pocket has collapsed, he has stepped up and made solid reads.

Love has really impressed me so far.

Now, what does that mean? Does that mean that Love is going to be the next Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers? I’ve read and heard people say those things and it’s not fair. This is Love’s first crack at the big stage in charge of his team. Let’s let him mold it his way. The last thing he needs is, “That was a nice completion, but Favre would’ve done it this way or Rodgers would’ve done this.” Come on.

Love has all the tools.

“You have to be able to go from 1,2,3 to your outlet quickly,” said Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements. “You can’t lock on a guy. You have to process information quickly, figure out where to go, and your footwork plays into that as well. If your feet are right and you’re seeing things right, you’re able to decide where to go with the ball. His footwork, rhythm and getting the ball off on time is where he’s gotten a lot better.”

Love has proven that he can read a defense and he has proven that his accuracy is very good. The thing that we still need to know is his leadership. But judging from what I’ve seen so far and the comments that every offensive player has his back, that won’t be a problem.

So let ESPN claim that the Packers have a 12 percent chance to win the NFC North. That’s fine. The Packers have arguably the best defense in the division, the best running back combo in the division and a quarterback that is about to turn heads.

So, underestimate him if you must, but it’s a bad decision. A lot of national guys think that Packers coach Matt LaFleur has coddled Love and the Packers will come crashing back down to earth this season.

That won’t happen because the offensive line won’t let it happen. The Packers have another top 10 offensive line — even though Rodgers wanted David Bakhtiari in New York. Love is going to run all the misdirection and play-action with plenty of motion that LaFleur has always wanted.

Love doesn’t have to be great this year, but don’t be surprised if he is. Favre threw 18 touchdowns and 13 picks in his first year starting in the NFL in 1992 and Rodgers threw 28 and 13. Love may not throw that many touchdowns, but I would be shocked if he threw that many interceptions.

He’s going to surprise people. Just be ready to scrape the egg off of people’s faces.

Love is going to provide an unknown quality to a position that has been stable for over a decade. There will be weeks that people on Cheesehead blogs will want his scalp, and other times he will be the next HOF QB for the Packers.
That is what will make this year so exciting. They are a young team, and will make mistakes, but the talent seems there to carry them into the playoffs if injuries don't decimate the team.
Love was considered to have the strongest arm of any QB that came out that year. It was good that he had time to learn how to unleash it.

Colin Cowherd...

That's the dude I want to hear once Love proves doubters wrong. I HATE that guy! My sister listens and/or watches him and I always ask her WHY? The dude's a tool! He's always seems to have some issue, some problem t=with the Packers.

Win the North and please shut him the hell up...At least for a day until he finds another bogus reason to hate.

My favorite part about Cowherd is that he was a huge fan of Love coming out of college. I remember listening to him talking to someone on his show about how he felt Love was going to be the next great QB. How in college his final season he lost a lot of his players and was forced to play differently because of it.

The deal with the Cowherds of the world is that they are know what buttons to push to get ratings. One of those buttons is to be as negative as possible about GB. He knows he will get ratings. So take what he says with a grain of salt.

HUGE POINT, RC!!!

Sadly, little of what they say is about substance, and more about $$$. Plain & simple. Every once in a while a truth of little consequence, or so they might think, is shared. You actually remembered that!

Well done.

Negativity towards the largest worldwide fan base garners interaction & engagement. It pumps $$$ further, because metrics.

Ah, I see. Your "sister" (*cough, cough*) watches Cowturd. And that's why you have a problem with what Cowturd says. My advice: Tell "your sister" (*ahem*) to stop watching him, and then "your sister" won't have the problem anymore.

Nick, my friend, the first step towards freedom is admitting that you have a problem. We're here for you, buddy. But you have to say it: "Hello, my name is NickPerry, and I watch Colin Cowherd..."

Colin Cowherd is always right. Just ask him. He is most correct when he contradicts Colin Cowherd...that happens all the time.

When Love and the Packers offense shows Colin Cowherd that Colin Cowherd was wrong about Jordan, Colin Cowherd will proclaim he was right about Jordan Love being a good NFL QB from day one.

YES!!!

First 3 plays v. NE:
Jones run for 6
Dillon run for 6
Dillon run for 5

Packers #1 O next 4 run plays:
Dillon for 3
Dillon for 4
Dillon for 4
Dillon for 5

I couldn’t help but see that as a prelude to the Packers 2023 season. Against NE’s #4 D from 2022? Who can stop that?

Dillon literally pounding the blitzing Mills into the turf, giving Love time to throw that TD to Reed? A cherry on top.

I'm looking forward to a better Packer rushing attack too GG, but I also think opposing DC's are going to stack the box early in the season to see if Jordan Love and the young Packer receiving corps can beat them. It is obvious Jones and Dillon are the most proven Packer weapons so any DC will try to stop them first. Should be an interesting test for Love and one I expect him to pass (pun intended).

P.S. As good as the Pats defense was last year, I think they were showing a vanilla defense without loading the box or running stunts during the preseason game. I would expect a different scheme in the regular season.

We certainly will see more looks on D and more specifically put in place to attack our O. The challenge has yet to really start.

The encouraging signs from Love are that he evidently is reading defensed and going through progressions. That’s the foundation and it’s going to need time to perfect against Ds scheming against us. The other real positive I see is his temperament. I’m sure he will get flustered, but he seems to have the mindset it takes to be a pro QB.

All good starting points. Now the learning curve begins next week. That won’t just be from him. Our catchers are still erratic, including Watson. Everyone is going to have to settle, not merely Live. Then the big question is what is our O in season and who is out there, how often and in what role.

PROVEN?

YES...Apparently according to Conor and other posters here, Love is now a proven NFL Franchise QB as Conor brags on his pre-season stats.
No more proof needed.
Because pre-season is no different than the regular season?
He's crowned.
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!
*******************
Anyone remember the MVP of the 2015 pre-season?
His name is Brett Hundley, and his pre season passer rating was 129.
A little higher that Loves current rating of 124.

Has Love developed more than his rookie season?
Of course he has, he's been learning for 3 years.
He better have learned something.
I would think he's better now, than back then, right?
But does that improvement mean he's proved himself, absolutely not.

Is there a difference between Pre season vs regular season?

Hundley's career (regular season) stats are as follows.....
59% completion perc.
1,902 yards
9 TD's....12 Int.
67.6 passer rating

Love's career (regular season) stats.....
60.2% completion perc.
606 yards
3 TD's....3 Int.
79.7 passer rating.

Should expectations be higher for Love?
Of course, he's a traded up for round 1 pick.

Presently Hundley is a XFL QB, wondering if he still has a job depending on whether the Rock wants to lose any more money.

Love is a NFL 1st year starting QB 'looking' to prove himself.

I have no angst or hate for Love at all.
But proving your worth in the NFL comes over time, in the regular season.
Not in the kool aid you drink.

That is reality. That's where i live.

Hear, hear.

It's August, which means most here on doing what they belittled Rodgers for doing, Ayahuasca, to increase the fantasy level of what they believe they see. They're like the hippies of the 60s thinking Love is all you need, or making Love out to be what it isn't.

I, like Foreigner, want to know what Love is, also, but I won't do drugs to make it up. I need to see it, experience it, so I'm waiting for the train to start moving or if it just keeps spinning its wheels at the station as has been for 3 years.

If Love only showed some of what Howell showed for Wash vs Balt last night. Howell was the epitome of Shane Falco and the Wash Sentinels.

I agree with you, Cory. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Jordan Love open a Can-O-Whoop-Ass on the rest of the NFL with all the weapons in that tool chest, and the Packers returning a very solid & deep OL.

The Packers defense will have to bring that same kind of high quality play we anticipate from our offense.

BRING ALL OF IT.

We’re likely going to see some fun stuff on STs this year too. Carlson & Whelan (thinking Whelan wins P job: youth, leg, cost savings) both are boomer legs. Nixon the NFL’s top returner.

Mistakes will happen as this Packers team learns, but I do believe this team can and will overcome those.

Week 1 Play Books for our game vs. CHI were delivered last night to the players per Gary Ellerson. Justin Fields, a running QB, now faces a Packers D built to stop the run AND pass. This is the same Fields who couldn’t surpass 400 total passing yds until Week 5 in 2022.

I’m smelling bear meat. Let’s go eat.

GG….Other than RB’s all pass catchers most experience is 1 year, yes only 1 year. In fact, depending how you look at Deguara, at TE rookies will be getting much of the playing time. There will be a lot of frustration from the fans and coaching staff with miscommunication and drops from these players. It’s natural and expected to some extent.

I would say if you rated the Packers non- RB pass catchers based on current abilities and not potential, most would have to rate them as one of the lowest in the league. We should keep that in mind as we grade Love throughout the year. Some of these mistakes won’t always be known and fault will be blamed onto Love. Mistakes could be as little as cutting 2 yards before you should or not providing enough space to the out of bounds for Love to place the ball, etc…. With this receiving corps, If his stats end up average in the NFL I think his future is going to be bright.

Yeah, murf, I get what you're saying. We all have an understanding of how young these players are for the Packers, knowing this will take some time to get everybody up to speed. A lot of unknown quantities, but less so now than back in May. We're finding out who a lot of these players are by what they've brought through about a month of TC and 2 preseason games. Looks like a lot of surprise and promise with many of our new additions.

Who here was thinking Reed could even have a chance at becoming our #2 or #3 WR? Or that Wicks would have been considered a lock for the 53 prior to his injury? Or, that DuBose would actually be a legit consideration to make our final 53 man roster? Heath? Is he not producing on the level of Reed right now?

Then there's Musgrave, who Dallin Leavitt compared recently to both Waller (his former teammate) and Kelce. This was in reference to Musgrave's physical attributes, not to get ahead of ourselves. 9.78 RAS. I'd say his blocking has been far superior to what I had imagined back when he was drafted. He's been impressive in that regard alone. Watch him on the practice field in real-time, and he presents an innate, easy acceleration & athleticism that cannot be denied. Luke Musgrave along with a good number of those other players mentioned, appears to be fitting into this offense nicely.

From ESPN's Rob Demovsky:
https://www.espn.com/blog/green-bay-packers/post/_/id/53531/jordan-love-...

We've learned much about our skill players since the Draft and UDFA signing periods.

I'll just go by Jordan Love's comments from late June, which I believe say it best:

“I think once everybody gets rolling, gets comfortable with the offense and being where they need to be every play, the sky's the limit for us." — Jordan Love

Love your optimism. I call myself a realistic optimist. You know that there are always TC & pre-season all-pros and then they don’t show up on game day and they fizzle out of the league in a few years. Realistically, some of the solid TC producers will perform this year while others will not. Even the ones who do perform, they will still be mistake prone. It’s just what rookies do, it is also what some 2nd year players do at a higher rate than when they become vets.

It’s the little things that make the difference, those little things take tons of reps for many to try and perfect. Those little things are what make or break close games. I expect struggles on offense this year, but like Rodgers first year we will see progress and excitement will build for the following year amongst us fans. Anyways, I hope you’re right and I’m wrong about this year.

I consider myself the same, murf. I think about and study this stuff like ... uh... way too much. LOL

Oh, don't get me wrong. We're going to have our struggles. There will be routes incorrectly run, maybe resulting in an INT, poorly judged throws, fumbles, more missed snap exchanges, missed blocks, etc. My thing is why even bring that up? It's pretty much a given.

We've been around this block. We know what rookies do. At the same time, I believe the Packers look very diligently to find outliers. It's not unique to the offense either. All up and down our NEW defense, outliers.

Jordan Love isn't rattled by adversity, and neither is Sean Clifford. They've shown that. Love marching the Packers 97 yds for a TD after the botched snap and a killed off series v. NE. Clifford with the comeback on another long drive for a TD v. CIN. I believe both exhibited those traits prior to GB drafting Love & Clifford.

Heath just oozes confidence, as does DuBose, as does Wicks, as does Reed, as does Musgrave, as does Kraft, as does Emanuel Wilson...

Cox Jr??? LVN??? Wooden??? Brooks??? Valentine??? Johnson Jr???

Hell, even Anders Carlson is an outlier. One helluva uniquely talented one at that.

They've all shown up to varying degrees, and they've all shown that they are rookies with more to learn. Yet, we all see the camaraderie, talent, speed, accountability & confidence the NFL's youngest team has. There's power there. They have nothing to lose, everything to gain, and they're playing with a massive chip on their shoulders carrying wheelbarrows of house money.

One last thing that isn't PURELY BLIND OPTIMISM: Player development under Matt LaFleur. Look at what we've seen from NT Jonathan Ford, LT Rasheed Walker, DT Devonte Wyatt, RG Jon Runyan, NT TJ Slaton, ILB De'Vondre Campbell, CB Rasul Douglas, WR Samori Toure... Every single one of those players has shown noticeable improvement since being acquired, to varying degrees. We'll see how that progresses, whether those successes can be repeated, but, I think it's a positive, tangible takeaway.

I believe two things have to happen this year for the Pack to be successful. One the defense has to be above average, like top 1/3'd of league AND the O-line has to stay healthy and protect Love. Love has all the tools to be a solid QB but without actual game experience is going to need that extra second or two to make the plays. He has better mobility than we are used to so that should also help. GPG!!

Do the Packers need Love to be a super star to be good? No
Do the Packers need Love to be a super star to make the playoffs? No.
Do the Packers need Love to be a super star to make a deep playoff and super bowl run? yes

Last year the Packers were 1 game away from making the playoffs with average QB play. What went wrong was the players around Rodgers. The WR's were hurt all year. The OL was a mess for half the year. The Defense couldn't apply any pressure after Gary got hurt. Barry and the players were not on the same page until late in the season. They were 1 game away from the playoffs with as much going wrong against them as possible. The Packers don't need a super start to be good and make the playoffs.

So forward to this year. This year just feels differently. We no longer have that feeling that "we have Rodgers and that is all we need". We now have more of a team feeling. It feels more like we just need to get our playmakers the ball and they will win for us. Gutey has done a terrific job the last 2 years adding pass catchers. We now have a TE that we haven't had in years. One that is a threat with size and speed. But its not just the playmakers. Its the OL. The OL is mostly healthy, but they have the starters and really good depth. Also we have a possibly the best tandem RB's in the league.

Gutey has done a tremendous job of setting up Love for success. Thing is the success may not come this year. it maybe a year away. But he has done a great job of setting this team and Love up for future success.

I have no clue how good or bad Love will be. We will soon find out. There will be a lot of ups and downs in his first year. And with all the young players around him. But to this point Love looks like he is improving and is ready to take on the league!

There is a lot to like and be optimistic about this year. There will be a lot of frustration on here with the inconsistencies particularly on offense this year, however the future (2024 & 2025) look extremely bright. Gutey appears to have done a masterful job providing talent on this team.

I think your Optimism will turn to disappointment.
The Question always has been;
"How good is Jordan Love.”
Not if the Defense can “hold”, to 17 points.
Because No Defense can stop a great offense now.
Thats just a fact-----
Known by any professional evaluators.
It takes more than practice to impress them.
And how many times have we seen a Rookie,
with all the tools and athleticism fail?
Tom Clements knows it takes "Quick thinking”.
And we just haven’t seen that yet.
The arm must go with the stats.
And questioning the OL or Defense is a excuse.
Something Lombardi would never tolerate.
Even the best laid plans can fail.
As long as Nobody fears coming into GB; anymore.
The egg will be thrown at management!

Stock, you're assuming that "optimism" is the same as "expectation," but they are not the same thing. They are for SOME people, but I have "hopeful optimism." I won't be "disappointed" if the team or Love end up struggling or with a losing record, those possibilities ALWAYS exist for EVERY team.
But what good is it to be a fan, if you spend your time wallowing in pessimism? People who do that really should find a different hobby, because that's a self-destructive approach to life. There are lots of hobbies that don't ever "fail."

My Dad told me in my teens that it pays to be an optimist. A pessimist is unhappy all the time...and optimist is just disappointed once in a while.

It's impossible to predict a season, team or individual, because there are too many out-of-your-control variables like injuries, refs, weather, unlucky bounces, etc.

That said...

If those variables don't bite too hard, this roster is ready to compete with anyone.

I see the biggest "controllable" aspects as consistency and coaching.
I'm not yet convinced that LaFleur is good at mid-game adjustments nor self-scouting.
...and we know the Barry shoe is always waiting to drop...

But IF the coaching rises and the young players become a little more consistent, this roster can win a LOT of games. Will Love be as influential as Mahomes? NO one knows the answer to that question, but this TEAM is looking fan-fricking-tastic on paper.

You posted this as I was writing mine.

Well said. I guess that doesn't mean much coming from me because I am told I'm too optimistic.

If these coaches settle the trenches and team with these excellent athletes no one or two players is going to decide the season.

Give Love a chance and he will be fine. He is not going to cost the Packers games the way Favre did in the post-Holmgren era. He is not going to be as good as Rodgers in protecting the ball and in not throwing interceptions. No one has.

Love is going to be somewhere in between and he is going to be a different player from those guys. He is going to be different, not better or worse just different.
He is going to be and he should be his own player.

Cory is correct the pressure will not be on Love this season and it shouldn't be. This season the pressure should be on the coaching staff, the OL to protect Rodgers and on the defense. That's where the pressure belongs this season. It will also be on our division opponents who have waited 30 seasons not to face a HOF Packer QB. We'll see how that works out for them. Thanks, Since '61

I agree that Jordan Love is going to surprise some people.

Comparisons with Aaron Rodgers are inevitable, and I'm fine with that up to a point, so I'm going to go right ahead with it. Love does not have the intensity of Rodgers--at least not on the outside. His arm is plenty strong, but he seems to throw the ball a little softer. He doesn't have a lot of facial expression. Maybe that's just a generational thing, as I've noticed that a lot of young people nowadays lack facial expression, compared to older people. But obviously Rodgers' and Love's personalities are very different.

It is refreshing to have a young QB who doesn't yell at his teammates so much. That's not just a Rodgers thing. My memories of QBs like Dan Marino and Troy Aikman in their later years include a lot of yelling at teammates. Even Brett Favre did some of that toward the end. Maybe that's just part of the life cycle of a QB. In their later years, they become more like coaches.

Last year in training camp, Rodgers praised Sammy Watkins and Randall Cobb and publicly chastised the rookie wide receivers for not figuring out their assignments fast enough. He did the same thing a few years before when the new guys were J'Mon Moore, Marques Valdez-Scantling, and Equanimeous St. Brown. I'm glad we don't have to listen to stuff like that anymore.

But the differences in style of play are even more interesting, and they will become more apparent as the season goes on. Initially Love is going to stick with the system a lot more than Rodgers did, but he will gradually develop a style of his own. It will be fascinating to watch him evolve, assuming that he is going to be a good QB. And I think he will be very good.

As to leadership, I would argue that in his previous role it would have been very difficult to assert that. He was a great teammate and was well received, but until you are “the man”, too much “leadership” could have led to problems. Division, controversy, etc.

Now he’s in the driver’s seat and his leadership is becoming very apparent! In addition, I’d point to the aftermath of his post-slide play vs NE. His teammates showed they have his back. Somewhere to the east, Zach Wilson is gnashing his teeth.

Cory, you're right. This season is not about Love (although I'm excited to watch him grow with the team).

This season is not about the D or special teams either (although I'm excited to watch them both grow as a team).

This season is about the COACHES! Can they help this group of excellent talent grow into a complete team?

Maybe you're saving that for a later article?

Never really understood this type of comment.

Yes, the season is about Love. Yes, the season is about young offensive playmakers stepping up. Yes, the season is about the D. Yes, the season is about special teams. Yes, the season is about coaches.

The Packers front office has taken a lot of heat from the dopey National TV pundits on how they’ve handled the QB position. I don’t get it. You might not “like” the plan but they have a plan. We don’t know yet how Love turns out. However, if you don’t have a QB plan you end up like the Jets or Bears. Flopping around looking for a guy and having to overpay for one. It’s crazy.

Agree 100%. Over the years how many countless teams took rookie QB's threw them into the fire their first year and lucky if many of them even ended up as a decent back up years later. Packers have had a plan for the last 30 years and many guys who were back ups became good ball players for other teams and played really good at the QB position. I believe this will again prove fruitful for the Packers with Jordan Love. Patience is the key, not right now glory in this league!

PackfanNY, are you in Manhattan? I'm just wondering if we haven't met at a Packer bar there without realizing it... my brother-in-law has lived there since the mid 80s, and my wife and I have been to many Packer bars there over the years.

Anyhow, I also specifically wanted to ask you, regarding AR at Jets practices: Are you getting Uncle Rico vibes, or is it just me?

LOL. Some of the stuff I've seen of late... I can see the field... I can see the trailer... I can see the metal folding chairs...

Steak, anyone?

Green and Gold, Not in Manhattan. Worked there many years. Grew up in Queens and now live on Long Island. I will always appreciate Rodgers for his time with the Pack but the Jets practices feel like the old Grandpa at Thanksgiving that no one knows what to say to when they talk to him. The just grunt at him and start watching the game on TV hoping he doesn’t look at them.

Been awhile but years ago hit the Packer bars. Directv Sunday Ticket solved that. On to YouTube TV this season.

I'd say the Jets have a plan. They are following what worked for the Bucs when they had a great defense and brought in an aging Hall of Famer to lead the offense, and ended up winning a Title. Same with the Broncos and P. Manning. That was an otherworldly defense, and I don't think the Jets are near the Broncos, but that's clearly their plan. Give Zach Wilson time to grown behind #12, like the opportunity Love has been given. And they're not overpaying since Rodgers gave them a huge discount.

Bears have made a lot of mistakes at the QB position, but it's most been through the draft, not as much overpaying for a veteran. They're still trying to see if Fields can be the guy.

There is very wise proverb: "You should never pick something when you need, but when you like!"

And that is Packers way. Lets say, if they found out they picked wrongly, they had time to correct the mistake. If they believe their pick is better than OK, you continue to work woth that pick and develop him to your standard.

In case of FPQB, I listened one podcast with former Packers FO employee, who stated that Packers were surprised that FPQB fell to their lap, as they were not plan to take QB. But all other players that were on their draft board before FPQB were taken and after quick discussion they decide to respect the board and to draft him, as he was next in the row by their opinion.

Almost same happend during 2020 draft. And after all their primary target was drafted next in the row, the last with 1 round designation was Jordan Love. They also decided to respect the board and, to be sure to get him, trade for few places higher.

That is the story - remember do not pick anything or anyone when you need, but when you like!

I think the key this year is the coaching. The defense should be outstanding but if not, I will have a real issue with.......LAF. He had the ability to get a different DC and did not make that move. If our DC fails us this year, we have lost a year with a new and better DC.

A question I think is interesting... Who's team is this?

I heard someone say "this is Jordan Loves team now", and I think it's reasonable in many cases that the QB who is the leader of the team. That was obviously true with Rodgers and the Packers, it's true for Joe Burrow or Josh Allen. But it's not always true. New Orleans and Seattle have been led by Payton and Carrol. Baltimore was led by Ray Lewis for many years.

Is this MLFs team? Is this Aaron Jones' team? If Gary was healthy, does he make a claim on being the leader this year?

Jordan loves play will be a huge variable in the number of wins the pack gets this year, but I think the team is looking for him to play a role, not be the biggest elite playmaker and leader. Would be great if he was, but it just doesn't seem like this is his team. At least not yet.

Idk, just an interesting question

I am very excited to watch the Pack this year as they have a new QB and the last two drafts for GB have been outstanding. We have a lot of young talent and we get to watch grow together. That will be fun!

As far as Love goes, I really hope he is the answer for us. I read a lot that states that if he is just average, we should win. An average QB does not cut it in today's game. He does not have to be the best but he better be in the top third at least.

I can't wait for the season to begin!

I'm ready to watch Jordan Love improve week to week as the team around him does the same. Screw the narrative the talking heads are pushing; we'll all see what we see without them clogging the airwaves with their fetid banter.

Which brings me to this whole scraping egg off your face with a spatula thing. I may be in the minority, but that seems like a serious lack of problem-solving ability. While I'd love to see Skip Bayless or Colin Cowherd remove egg from their faces with a razor-sharp spatula, for all friends here, please use alternative methods and common sense. Exceptions should be granted for the "Aunt Jemima Treatment" employed by Bill Murry in the movie Stripes

"Love has proven that he can read a defense and he has proven that his accuracy is very good. The thing that we still need to know is his leadership."

In my opinion, I would say this comment is a bit backwards. What Love HAS proven is his leadership. His accuracy is a little spotty, although certainly not disastrous at all. And since preseason games are almost exclusively vanilla defenses, it's hard to say he can read a defense well until we see him face a D that is game-planning and mixing things up on Sunday.

LOL!

Almost everyone posted their disdain for Cowherd because of what he said about Love, and yet, everyone likes what the poster said in his comment about Love, while this comment is exactly what Cowherd said.

How biased can you be? Biased enough to not recognize the stink of your own flatulence.

Two people say the same thing/truth, and you applaud one and smear the other. Face the question, and let time decide if you celebrate or not. But the question/statement is still rightfully REAL, and will get answered, in time.

Hate or dislike the person all you need to, but it doesn't erase the reality of what needs to be answered in real game play.

It is a long season but my sense that the Packers success will be determined as much, perhaps more by the play of the D, is being reinforced during camp and the preseason.

The defense has 8 #1 draft picks for Barry to coach. This should be the best D in the North and could be one of the best in the NFC. They are loaded with talent on the field. If only MLF could field a top notch D coaching staff. Maybe the players will find a way to succeed for the first time under, and in spite of a Barry led defense?

When was the last time an NFL defense had 8 #1's?

I mean, come on. The Packers defense is going to be the best in the division? They haven't been a defensive team in decades, and other then a few good years (2010, 2014) they've been mainly meh, and the team has been bailed out by a Hall of Fame MVP QB for years. That's suddenly going to change now that Rodgers is gone? And rookies for depth on a defensive line that could not in any way stop the run last year. You think that is miraculously fixed? And they don't even know who the starting safety is across from the guy who got benched for poor play last year. I won't trust this defense or Barry until we see them actually do it consistently.

We will see about Love. It is preseason with no one game-planning and few teams playing their starters. I hope it translates to the actual games, but we won't know until we see at least a season's worth of play; well, half of a season if you go with Mark Murphy's viewpoint.

That makes two of us (at least).

I believe CW calls this the biggest test/experiment of this season.

I think he's a good coach and still has learning to do in gametime situations. We can't blame all of that on a former QB especially when it comes to defense. He needs to lead the whole team and oversee everything. A good OC can become a good HC.

I understand that TD pass the Reed was only one snapshot, but I am VERY impressed by the pass blocking to allow Love to drop back, set-up and zip the ball for the score.

Musgrave put a man on the ground, and the rest of the O-Line absolutely stoned the Patriot pass rush. Footwork, hand use, and PAD LEVEL was a sight to behold.

I'm not sure who all the players were; Kevin Harlan mentioned Tom by name, and I thought I saw Myers' number, along with Musgrave. But that was some pocket they set for Jordan Love!
