Christian Watson ruled Out for Bears game

Watson's fellow second year wide receiver, Romeo Doubs, is Questionable for the season opener.

Matt LaFleur confirmed earlier this afternoon the second year wide receiver Christian Watson will be ruled Out for Sunday's season opener in Chicago due to his hamstring injury.

Fellow wide out Romeo Doubs is listed as Questionable on the injury report after participating in Friday's practice in a limited capacity.

Other than that, the Packers are good to go on the injury front.

As for the Bears, linebacker Dylan Cole was a limited participant in their Friday practice after sitting out all week with a hamstring injury. He's listed as Questionable for Sunday's game.

Well this sucks. The Packers lost 4 of 5 games when Watson either didn't play or had to leave after playing after less than 25% of the offensive snaps (excuse the plagiarism from another article). Needless to say, I sure hope Doubs can suit up to take a little pressure off the rookies.
If MLF has some surprises and extra offensive creativity in him, now is the time to show it. Same with Barry on the defensive side. Need a big, big day from Aaron Jones!

It does concern me that Watson is missing games due to his hamstring issues. 3 last year and already 1 this year. The problem is that he is our #1 receiving threat. I really wish Gutes could pull the trigger on one reliable, veteran WR to give us more WR stability? Love could use more veteran stability this season...

A veteran WR can become injured, as well. I think it’s better to use the next man up that has the offseason and preseason working in this offense.

Yes, and that next man up gets experience as well. So there is a silver lining in all this. Let's be confident. We know this will be a different year. They all need experience in game conditions which will help them a bunch. It will also help the FO to see who is a gamer and who may not make the grade.

Lots of players end up being too fragile to play in the NFL. Watson appears to be one of them.

Yes, I am hoping against hope that you are not correct Lare but I do admit that I had these thoughts through out the off season. He is a great player but can he stay healthy? That is the question and only time will provide us with the answer!

His knee was scoped before the beginning of Summer Session last year. The hamstring issue for WRs is prevalent across the NFL this week. Let him tune up for a long season ahead. He is the most dynamic player on the Pack's offense. Let Reed do his thing on Sunday.

That's not known. He won't get 17 games either of his first two seasons, that is known. We have depth, that is also known.

To quote Vince Lombardi "what the hell is going on out there?" The number one cause of hamstring injuries is lack of proper stretching. Please give the memo to the training room, players and WR 's coach.

Couldn't agree more. The Packers have the absolute worst strength and conditioning coaches in the NFL.

This is nothing new in Green Bay. They ALWAYS have players dealing with hamstring and groin injuries...ALWAYS!

You make a good point. I wonder if there has been a study made of teams injuries by type and number. I would think that there is one but have not heard of it.

How many games did he miss last year? So with the knowledge he got about what it takes to be ready for the NFL last year, he couples that with an entire preseason to get the finishing touches in place before game one, and play with kid gloves on for the few plays he takes. And this is what you get?

Watson is concerning regarding the injury bug, especially with hamstrings which tend to linger. The backup WRs better be ready to play serious minutes.

And Doubs is questionable. If he doesn’t play then the total career NFL receptions for our whole roster of WR & TE would be 5 (Toure).

What year was the hamstring invented? As a kid in the 50-60s, I never remember a Packer (back then they didn't work out until training camp) develop a hamstring issue.

And where were you getting your reports back then? Espn, Twitter, Facebook? You didn't know jack shit about what was going on back then! I'm guessing they played through everything, just to put food on the table. You look on every nfl roster and there's injuries, but yet our guys are made of "GLASS" as one dipshit keeps stating. Injuries all year long, so get used to it and quit your belly aching!

Young man or what ever your preferred noun or pronoun of choice is..... was I complaining? I got my facts from the Post Crescent back in the day. If you believe everything on ESPN, Twitter, Facebook you are naive. I assume you were born well after "sarcasm" was created.... Look up the definition on Google since you might not own a Webster's.

Not a good start for Watson's career. Last summer he had clean out of the knee due to pain and played about 46% of snaps as a rookie. He barely played in preseason and misses week #1 with a hamstring. Some players are injury prone while others rarely will miss a game. I hope he recovers and has a productive 2nd season, though maybe there is a cheap veteran waiting for a call. You know there will be others knicked up as the year goes on.

This is some bad luck, like not having Kelce, or some other major part of a team's passing game.

This is good news for guys who want to get on the field and show what they can do. For somebody, this is an unexpected opportunity I'd love to see the youngsters make a couple of back-breaking plays against the Bears.

edit.....

OK, We'll start Doubs and Toure, but we're going to have Reed and Heath in the rotation. Musgrave is going to get the targets that Lewis and Tonyan got last year. Deguara will get some opportunities. But it's still going to be Jones/Dillon for half of the plays. That's four WRs, and two of them need to separate. My money would be Reed and Doubs. Let's hope they can hang onto the rock a little better than those butterfingers in KC.

What better time to allow WR4-6 to step up? Adding a veteran Free Agent WR is more harmful than helpful. Why is he still a Free Agent? Given the entire TE/WR corps has five NFL catches and there is no inkling of playing in February 2024, just spread the targets out amongst them all. Experience to sort the long term wheat from the chaffe…

You can only activate so many players....

It'll probably have to be Reed, Doubs, Toure doing most of the heavy lifting at WR, but these guys like Heath, who've made a good impression so far, are going to be on the field if we get people hurt or need more production.

In a perfect world, we'd have targeted Watson about 9 times, for about 6 completions for over 100 yards and a TD. So now, we have to use those 9 opportunities on other people.

I like it ugly, I do. And if there was ever a good time to come out and win an ugly game in Chicago then this is it. On offense, Watson or not, we should just do what we're gonna do and put the emphasis on pushing guys around and not turning it over. Love and Jones/Dillon and the rest will be fine if we just get guys blocked.

NOW more than ever RUN the damn ball and KEEP running it. Both times last season the Packers ran the ball very effectively against this Bears defense.

They'll be fine if Barry stays in the booth up top, and the Defense doesn't let Fields run all over them. When Fields does run, smash the living shit out of him letting him know it ain't happening this year and if you try it's going to hurt...A Lot.

It's one thing to come and TROLL and make a smart or funny comment when you come to our site. But your purple loving ass just looks dumber and dumber each time you touch that keyboard.

He was a rookie last year and touched the ball 48 times between rushing and receiving. He scored 9 times. Chew on that for about 4 weeks and MAYBE in that time it will sink in...Your full of shit!

My relatives raised horses—mostly quarter horses, but a couple of thoroughbreds too. The thoroughbreds were awesome looking athletic specimens, but it seemed they were more delicate—twitchy—more difficult to maintain. This is Sorta how I view Watson. When he’s in the ring, he outshines the others. Can he stay in the ring?
Our receivers must NOT perform like the Chief’s receivers on Thursday (Kadarius T.).
