Christian Barmore Prospect Profile and Scouting Report
Alabama Defenive Lineman Christian Barmore is profiled in advance of the 2021 NFL Draft

Name: Christian Barmore
School: Alabama
Year: rSo
Position: Defensive Tackle
Measurables: Height 6’5”, Weight 310 pounds
Stats:
General Info:
Barmore was a consensus four star prospect coming out of Neumann Gorretti High School in Philadelphia. He was No. 75 in the ESPN300 and the number four defensive tackle. In the 247 Composite, he was No. 187 nationally and the No. 17 defensive tackle. He was first team All-Philadelphia in the Catholic League Blue Division and helped lead his team to an 11-1 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals.
Positional Skills:
Strengths
Barmore brings a lot to the table as a run defender. He is very good at holding his ground against double teams, which will often free up second level defenders. He displays great leverage and balance when holding up against double teams, always showing off superior hand placement. Barmore is very good at moving laterally while engaged and funneling towards the play. His ability to shed blocks quickly against the run is evident, using quick push/pull moves and active hands.
Barmore’s heavy hands carry over to his ability as a pass rusher. His go to moves often involve a combination of club/rip, hand swipes, and arm over moves to get by interior linemen. If he’s lined up 1v1 against a guard or center, his heavy hands and raw power take over, and he can utilize his bull rush to collapse the pocket. He takes advantage of linemen when they get off balance, and his hands stay active, even when his first move is neutralized. His power is also evident in that he can use his hips, length, and strong arms in unison to toss linemen out of the way.
Barmore lined up in a variety of spots for the Crimson Tide, whether it be as a true nose tackle or 1 technique, out to a three technique and 4i. His motor runs hot all game, and he shows off the effort on backside pursuit of plays. Barmore’s production was also very impressive in 2020, racking up eight sacks on the interior.
Weaknesses
Barmore’s weaknesses fall into the pass rushing department more than anything. He relies a lot on his power and length too often, and will play with a high pad level as a rusher, losing initial leverage. He lacks the initial quickness of a true pass rushing defensive tackle, and doesn’t rely enough on technique to win on the interior. Barmore does have effective counters, but he’s still more of a “slow burn” type as a rusher who doesn’t often win quickly.
Fit with the Packers:
Barmore’s fit in Green Bay is highly dependent on what Joe Barry and company want to have in the middle of the defense next to Kenny Clark. If they want a player who can consistently hold up double teams and free up their young linebackers to make plays, he’s their guy. Taking on double teams will consistently free up other guys on the defensive line to win one on one. He flashes as a pass rusher, but it’s more power and heavy hands than true technique.
What will impress the Packers is Barmore’s consistent motor and effort he gives throughout the play and his ability as a tackler. His versatility to move around will also be helpful for a defense that will looking for players to handle a variety of assignments. Overall, his consistency and power could be the determining factor for Green Bay if he is indeed available come draft time.

I'd love for the Packers to draft him, but he will be gone early in the 1st round.

IMHO, there's a good chance he falls into the 2nd round. Pack could get him after trading out of R1, were they to choose to do so.
A lot of mock drafts are currently showing many of the top LBs falling to late round 1.
It will be hard for Pack not to select CB/S in both R1/R2. Most likely alternative would be OT.

I've seen Barmore ranked in the 40s on some draft boards, too. Personally, I am not a fan of drafting Alabama defenders. With so many talented players in that huddle, it is really easy for them all to look good and really hard to tell wihich ones are truly special. Give me a standout player on a lesser team instead of a face in that crowd.
Maybe that's a weird philosophy. The very first instance of it was liking Troy Vincent better than Terrell Buck;ley. Given how that one worked out, I never bothered looking at the counter-indicators and just let it become the thing to believe.

I really like the idea of getting a DL that is solid value at #29, because there are few high quality DL's in this years draft. However, given that scarcity, I do expect prospects like Barmore to be pushed up the draft and he is likely gone at #29. The Packers might trade up, of course, but I'd put his selection at 'unlikely'. I'm not that worried that he is an Alabama guy, because the kind of power and hand use he has, translates pretty well to the NFL.
Equally i'd quite like Washington DL Onwuzurike, but would he be one of those in the top tier of available players at 29 ?
This year, pick 29 could go to getting a DL, CB, OT or even WR (as a replacement for D.Adams after next year when he will command rather more than $20m pa). Even ILB might be on the cards as there are probably very good players like Zaven Collins available.
I just don't know which way the Packers go, though if pushed to choose, I'd probably guess OT, because there are several possibilities.........and the more choices the Packers have, the more likely there is one prospect they really like.

Collins will be a middle 1st round selection. He won't fall.

He is so much better than any other D'Lineman in my opinion. One guy I would actually trade up for that might be available in the early 20's/maybe/if lucky.
Keke 3tech, KC NT, Baremore 5 Tech, then keep Lancaster and a Price cut Lowry as rotational.
That's scary.

I don’t think Barry is looking for a man to take on double team. From what I understand they are going to be looking for the DL to one gap and create more havoc in the backfield. Someone like Keke may play more in this type of D. This is the type of D the Rams played, instead of a two gap with the ILB making the plays. If that is what they want to play, I don’t see the fit.

To be honest I don't have a real good idea as to what they trended with Pettine or are implementing with Barry and certainly not when it come to the DL assignments. I assumed that they trended toward trying to have the DL suck up the blockers to keep the ILBs and et freer to make the play. Martinez made it sound like that wasn't always the case when he was here. I do believe a big issue with the run D early on was the issues on assignments and gap integrity.
I agree with keke bing a gap shooter and there's a few nice ones in the draft, Osa is my favorite of the undersized gap shooters. Alim mcNeil my #2 DL for the packers is more along the lines of run stuffer, pocket pusher, good chase NT if need be. Poor man baremore.

Love this guy. To get him trade up. Face it, Gute will trade picks. Gute can't afford to spend money now. Clark needs a partner. A 1and 3 here?. But what about CB? Well thats the flip. @29 I Still doubt you get Samuel or Newsome. Without overspending for them. And as we know. A Cb selection is No guarantee. This guy will Fix the trench.

Sounds like another Montavious Adams , seems like a similar scouting report.

Size yes. Pad level No. Adams was considered lazy; and his senior Bowl got him drafted. He had us fooled. Scouting Report said he played high. Clark didn't. And Barmore doesn't. The Alabama DL are doing well in the NFL. And he is considered the best in the country.

Montravius Adams was a good prospect coming out, he just never put it together. Same with Burkes. I wouldn't blame Gute for either one.

This is what you want in a DL: His ability to shed blocks quickly against the run is evident,!!!!. The second is collapsing the Pocket. Which another scouting report stated. Takes on Double teams freeing up LBs. Most DL are on a rotational basis now. Age is the concern.

He would be best in a 4-2/4-3 set up like he played for Saban. Hopefully, Barry is a flex guy that can show multiple fronts. I do not want to see a 2 man front again in Packertown. Barmore's spot will depend on his Pro Day. Is he as good as Simmons or Dexter Lawrence?

Is he as good as Oliver. Wilkins, Or Rashad Gary. All three who went ahead of them. Yes! Simmons had the inj. Lawrence tested Positive for pot. Oliver had the Twitch moves. And Wilkins could play DE /DT. If you compare the DL this year- to that year. That year was better. I doubt they get a shot at Barmore. He will be great in a 4-3-4. But not the 3-4-4. ( Still Raji moved and gave way to Pickett.) Gute will not move up for Barmore, unless Barry wants to switch. And Barry stated he didn't. The next best DL is in the 2nd Rd. Several could replace Lowrey or Daniels. And they could very well be out of reach @62. After that projects, and rotation.

Nice height. Haven't seen many 6'5" DLs over the years in GB. I wouldn't be upset if GB took him in the 1st.

This is what happens when you drag your butt in reworking contracts. You get the leftovers. Unforgiveable not to have all this wrapped up and ready to pounce on FA needs to push the Pack to the super bowl. Get it together Gute.

Ah yes, these few days are full of petty comments, jealous of the FA signings elsewhere. Of course, the Vikings have won many an offseason championship and have precious little actual hardware to show for it in their trophy case.

We came up short in back to back championship runs. Gute could have already reworked everyones contracts in the last few months. If he has xtra money from the contract work he can use it for a difference maker or two. If not he can rollover the cap amount for the future cap hits. I don't care about the vikings business. They don't have an elite Qb, we do. They draft poorly on OL also. They draft most other positions better. If you want to win, you should be ready for the best available player, that fits a need, it's his job. Back to back and no FA help until it's too late. That's not good managing and filling needed positions. Gute needs to figure out if he wants a championship with Rodgers.
Starting CB,DL,WR#2 FA's stat.

DL would be a great pick at #29. Right alongside OT abd CB. All 3 are extremely important positions and high need areas. Barrmore and the Washington DL would be the only 2 DL I would consider at 29. At this point any 1st rd talent at DL, OT or CB.

This draft is deep in OTs and the Packers are looking for a RT which can probably be found in the second round (particularly since MLF normally plays with a TE next to the RT). I would prefer the #1 be a DT or CB. Would love either Barmore or the Washington DT.
