Around the NFC North – Week 11
With the Bears maintaining the division lead following week 10, the NFC North remains up for grabs as the teams enter the final seven weeks of the season.
By Ryan Brunner

As the NFC North enters the heart of the season where playoff hopes are kept alive or shattered, weekly divisional matchups should make the coming weeks exciting as the division rounds the corner to the December homestretch.
Chicago Bears
On Sunday, the Bears maintained their lead in the NFC North by thoroughly beating the Detroit Lions within the friendly confines of Soldier Field by a score of 34-22. In the convincing win, the Bears jumped out to an early lead behind an offense that was on fire from the start. While struggling through a very up and down season, quarterback Mitch Trubisky came out with guns blazing in throwing for 355 yards and three touchdowns against the Lions while also adding a rushing touchdown as well. With little producing from their run game, the Bears wide receiver duo of Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller each broke the 100-yard mark receiving and hauled in all three of Trubisky’s touchdown passes. The Bears defense welcomed Khalil Mack back to action and the unit as a whole got after Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and forced three total turnovers in the game.
The victory over the Lions snapped the Bears 10-game losing streak to NFC North opponents and helped them remain atop the division at a record of 6-3 with just seven games remaining on the schedule. The Bears will play host to the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday in a game that was flexed to the primetime Sunday Night Football slot and then will travel on short notice the following week to take on the Detroit Lions in their traditional Thanksgiving Day home game at Ford Field.
Minnesota Vikings
While sitting stagnant during their week 10 bye, the Vikings watched their two closest competitors for the NFC North title both secure wins over this past weekend. Sitting at 5-3-1 and right on the heels of the division-leading Chicago Bears, the Vikings look to travel to Chicago this Sunday night with a chance to take over the division lead. Following their week 11 Sunday Night Football matchup, the Vikings turn around in the same timeslot the following week when they host the Packers at US Bank Stadium.
Detroit Lions
On Sunday, the Lions pushed their losing streak to three games in a 34-22 loss to the Chicago Bears on the road at Soldier Field. In the losing effort, quarterback Matthew Stafford continued to be pummeled by opposing defenses while being sacked six times against the Bears. That makes 16 sacks over the past two games for Stafford. While rookie running back Kerryon Johnson continues to be a bright spot for the Lions, all other facets of their team are failing miserably during the losing streak. Costly turnovers at the hands of Stafford and Johnson negated scoring opportunities for the Lions and are a direct effect of the Lions offensive line struggling to keep their star players protected. On the other side of the ball, the Lions defense appeared to put a focus on stopping the Bears running game to let Mitch Trubisky try to beat them. While successful in limiting Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen on the ground, Trubisky had a field day with the Lions secondary.
Following up on three straight losses, the schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Lions over the next three weeks. While all three matchups are at home, they host the Carolina Panthers this week, the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day and the Los Angeles Rams the following week.

A Bears and Viking tie, a Detroit loss, and a Green Bay win would be sweet this week. Go! Pack! Go!

The NFC north race is going to clear itself these next 2 games. Green Bay starts it’s play off push tomorrow night. MM is under gun and he must not have a let down. Pressure breaks pipes and pressure makes diamonds the whole team has to be all in the rest of the season. Love this scenario and it could be what they need to turn the season around. If they don’t have that intensity and are flat a new direction is needed.

Min coming off the bye should be well prepared to play Chi. Chi however should be well prepared for Min while knowing they play Det on Thursday and the recent win over them allows for full game ready/play vs MIN...no looking ahead casualty.
A loss by Min will add to the difficulty already hard pressed on the Packers going into MIn less Min coming off a loss to Chicago.
This makes a win in Seattle on Thursday even more pressing as a Chi win and GB loss leaves only a must win in Min as the last door stop to the season over and even that is weak in it's prevention. Essentially, this game is the backdoor entrance to the playoffs and it needs to be at least/appear to being kicked in with strong intent.
A win is a win and the Packers cannot accept that this Thursday. A mediocre win, doused with the same flaws, simply will not suffice and will lead to another failed successful season the likes we have been endowed with for 8 years, with no participation banner being displayed from the rafters.

Style points only exist in the CFP placements and Pro Bowl voting. In a stadium as hostile to visitors as the Link and with a banged up defense, ANY win this week is a statement win for GB as it will be the first road win of the year, against a potential wildcard opponent to boot (not to mention the first time since 2008 that GB has beat Seattle in Seattle). If they can win and leave Seattle without new injuries to Rodgers, Alexander, Jones, Adams, MVS, or Clark, I'd call it a resounding success.

Where I did mention style points...I said strong intent which can be achieved via solid play, near to zero errors, eliminating stupid penalties.
Score is not the end all decider of strong play/intent/ statement making....You know, all the things this team has failed to show. They scored 31 vs Miami...I'm sure that scared the crap out of Seattle or anyone else.

Lmao, McCarthy and Rodgers are being outcoached and outplayed by Matt Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky. Nagy has more wins while Trubisky has more TD passes than AR, has run for twice as many yds and 3x the rushing TD's AR has which is none. Packers are in for a big surprise if they think AR is going to win them a division crown. Right now he's playing like and statistically is only the 3rd best QB in the division. And the same goes for McCarthy as he is only the 3rd best coach in the division.

Living in Chicago, I see many of the CB games (UGH).
However, I do get to view Matt Nagy's creativity to maximize the player talent the CB have.
Nagy uses motion, misdirection, decoy and diversion to create match ups that seemingly get the ball to his most talented players in space ( like Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen, Anthony Miller and their TE Burton).
With AJ, MVS, Davante, ESB, Graham and Lewis, does anyone here believe that MM matchup strategy is as good and as creative as Nagy? How about the ever predictable 20+ yard pass on 3rd and 3 with AROD being forced out of the pocket and almost killed!!!@@##@@
I'll PUKE if the CBs win the North this year--or any year!

I agree although you will find some rather old curmudgeons on here who emphatically pronounce that the only problem with McCarthy's offense is it needs to be executed properly. Idk what they consider proper execution but I'm all for a firing squad or just burning the playbook would be the best execution. They can even make it a public execution and burn the playbook on Sunday morning in the parking lot.

There's a new generation of creative offensive minds coaching in the NFL. McVay, Nagy, Pederson come to mind as the top three. Meanwhile, GB has a bland offensive scheme that our opponents have scouted for over a decade. If as fans we want Aaron Rodgers in the last 1/3 of his career to be successful, we should wish that GB goes a different route at top.

No one should accuse Rak of being a millennial (stop using that fancy interwebz jargon, btw. You're just confusing galt) after he evoked the memory of John McKay and his winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

I was looking at the playoff scenario on NFL site and was surprised to see if the season ended today the Vikings and Bears would both be in the playoffs with the Bears winning the division while the Queens sneak in as a wildcard. Packers need to beat the queens to get the edge on the wildcard and both to have a shot at the division.

Unless Chicago somehow collapses down the stretch, I think they won the division. Looking at their remaining schedule it's pretty cupcake outside of LAR. MN still has NE and LAR, and GB still has the Falcons. If GB beats SEA and the Bears beat MN, things get much easier to sneak in at 5 or 6. If either game goes the other way, the playoffs start next week.
