2022 Packers Stock Report: Week 9
Take a look at the stock report for the Green Bay Packers after a 15-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 9.

I am no longer having fun anymore.
Well, to be honest, I haven't had fun since the first month of the season.
The Green Bay Packers are stuck on a downward spiral and can't get off, no matter how hard this team tries.
Injuries, an aging quarterback eating up cap space and a struggling coaching staff has plagued this team up to this point and I just don't see how the Packers can turn it around.
What I can do is write the stock report. So let's get into it after a 15-9 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 9.
BUY
Devonte Wyatt- It's tough to tell, but Devonte Wyatt, in a very limited fashion, has actually played well when he gets in the football game. The problem is, he hasn't gotten very many opportunities. He's young, and the season is all but lost, so the coaching staff should get him more game reps to see what they have for the future. This is a risky gamble, but you could buy low now and see some serious long term gains on Wyatt if he shows promise in more reps.
SELL
Aaron Rodgers- This was one of the worst games that I've ever seen Aaron Rodgers play. Three interceptions, all deep in Lions' territory, against one of the worst statistical defenses of all time? Bad. I love Aaron Rodgers. He will always be one of my favorite quarterbacks of all time. But it's time to pull the plug. His constant refusal to take too much blame, horrible body language and straight-up bad play this season is exhausting. And the fact that he's pretty much holding the organization hostage with his overloaded contract (when he's stated that he's a team player and wishes more free agents would come play in Green Bay) is not a good look either. Sell.
Turf- For a league that has emphasized player safety over the past few years, it truly is ironic that there are still teams out there that play full-time on turf. The Green Bay Packers were the latest team to get eaten up by the turf monster. Rashan Gary, Eric Stokes, Romeo Doubs, the list goes on... After the game, De'Vondre Campbell tweeted, and Elgton Jenkins spoke, about how much players hate playing on turf fields, and that sentiment has been echoed throughout the league. It's time for the league to do something.
Sammy Watkins- It is evident that Sammy Watkins doesn't have it anymore. Once a strong point in his game, the explosiveness is gone. He's constantly locked up and it never looks like he's on the same page with 12. Combine that with the fact he doesn't catch balls when he is actually thrown them (1 catch and 2 drops on 5 targets Sunday), and it's really a wonder that the Packers ever picked him up in free agency. The only problem is he has to play now, because the Packers literally don't have any other options. Ugh.
HOLD
Jordan Love- We should see Jordan Love at some point this season. Whether we do or not is up to Matt LaFleur (and fate). Like I said earlier, Rodgers has struggled all season long. A loss this weekend will truly put the nail in the coffin on the season, which opens up the door for LaFleur and the front office to do the right thing: Sit Rodgers (say it's the thumb, I don't care) and play Love. Campbell earlier this week called Love a starting quarterback in the NFL. The team needs to see what they have for the future. Hold on to Love for now.

Agree with you on all count, though I need to focus more on D Wyatt before I can wholeheartedly agree. It would be nice to find something to feel good about!
It's very hard for an interior linemen on either side of the ball to stand out in a good way, so I trust your assessment.

Wyatt has earned more time. That’s the on coaches. So have McDuffie, Toure, Deguara and Tom (still eating crow). We are very bad at adjusting to actual performance week to week, not just in games.
Watkins seems lazy. That’s two games in a row he’s had critical brain farts and he’s never looked like the athlete he was. I disagree that we need him. He’s not better than Fulgham/Winfree at this point and his route knowledge probably isn’t a great defense against change.
Not much left for me to sell. No past sales I regret and I’m still trying to give away LaFleur. One facet of not playing Rodgers would be to see how LaFleur plans and calls for Love. Since he’s still here, it gives us a window to see what he can do when Rodgers is out if the equation. I think that would help him save or bury himself. Since last time he didn’t even have a plan for Love, I’m guessing bury. But let’s see.
Barry’s D was good enough that I can’t give him away yet, but unless we match that against Dallas and the Eagles, let’s see what Gray can or can’t do—time to see what we have as coaches before we fire/promote/retain.

*When do you actually think they start sitting Rodgers? You know they won't this Sunday, probably not next Thursday against the Titans...
I'm asking seriously, because I can't see them sitting AR until after duh bares game...

I think it will be after mathematical hopes are extinguished. I don’t think that the leadership will give up on saving themselves till then. That may be after the Eagles. I suppose it could extend post Bears.
If we are beyond the point of no return I see no reason not to play him, against the Bears or anyone, other than the Titans on a short week after Dallas, against whom we know he’s not going to start.
If we beat the Bears we only help them and hurt ourselves draft wise. Part of me doesn’t care therefore and another part wants history to record them still owned. The fact that I doubt the outcome at home with Rodgers enough to consider that says it all for me against that team. In the end, if we are done, play Love. If we aren’t, play Rodgers.
I think the math probably runs us up to before or after the Eagles. It is arguably more propitious to have Love start his first game against the Bears than the Eagles.

Coldworld, if Packers lose to Cowboys, the season is over. There is 4 teams + 3 teams for Wild Card. Now: 1. Eagles, 2. Seahawks, 3. Vikings, 4. Who ever from South (probably Bucs), than 5. Cowboys, 6. 49ers, 7. Giants or Rams. No space for another team. Of course if you do not accept Packers to win all to the end. They just need to lose additional vs Philly and story stops for sure. I do not see them win over Titans, either.

I don’t want Love starting in a short week. We play a week tomorrow, Thursday. That’s just not enough time. I haven’t gone through the math because I regarded this season as over based on how we are playing before that was relevant. I think there’s turmoil ahead as the inevitable becomes certainty.

Well, we have similar view, with one remark - you are better in knowing processes in the football organizations than I know, You are more on upper level of idiocrasy, I'm trying to logically understand situations closer to the team. But those 2 things are firmly connected.

The Philly game seems possible. Not home games against Dallas and the short week game with TN. They might be out of it as well by week 12 at Philly.

Buy: The 2023 draft guides as soon as they come out.
Wyatt: He's only going to get better with more experience, so with the season already toast, it's not risky at all to give him more snaps.
Love: If the Dallas pass rush (I believe they lead the league in sacks) gets to Rodgers often, we may see Love earlier than expected.
Sell: The offensive coordinator position. What's the point? If Rodgers insists on playing the way he did vs. Detroit, you might as well insert a mannequin up there in the booth. Maybe sending Stenavich back to coaching the OL would be a better option as the Rodgers era draws to a close.

Sell: The first half of this season
Hold: CHTV. Gunnar, I'm sure we could fix this (excluding me). There're enough heads here to fill all the FO and board positions (even maybe some coaches). How could it be any worse?

I'm not sure anything is up to Matt LaFleur any more. He might be allowed to decide the "Show" time for the team on Sunday, IDK.

II wanted to trade Rogers last year I thought it was the perfect time but Rogers decided to stay and retire a Packer and things haven't worked out but I want to say this, Rogers has meant so much to Packer fans. Since the Packers traded for Farve we have had 30 years of almost unbroken winning - 30 years and half of that was due to Rogers. If he wants to stay, go or retire let's give him the love and respect he deserves for the many good years he gave the Packer fans for as bad as things are now they are not as bad the the 70's and 80's.

Sitting Rodgers and playing Love sounds good. The question is, would LaFleur and Stenavich be able to design a game plan that utilizes Love's strengths? Last year, Love got to start a game because of Covid protocol irregularities. There were no adjustments to help Love succeed. Instead, they (apparently) kept the game plan for Rodgers, and just told Love to execute it. This should come as no real surprise, since making adjustments to the offense to face new problems is not something LaFleur does well. The team apparently can't rely on Rodgers to overcome whatever is thrown at him. Those days are past. Time to bite the proverbial bullet, take your lumps, and become a contender three or four years down the road. Either that, or wait two or three years until Rodgers contract is done, and face the same crossroads.

Buy—Enagbare…he looks like a good pick.
Sell— raise your hand if you believed Watkins was a good FA acquisition? Yep…what I thought—no one! He’ll be on IR before season’s end, nursing a hamstring and milking the system.
Hold—I believe Watson, Doubs, and Toure will be good players.
I’m also curious about Kylin Hill—I think he’s going to make us pay attention.

I was disappointed that they didn't put Kylin Hill in for the last series of downs along with Dillon. Give the illusion of possibly running it. Heck I would have fed the ball to Hill who has shown great ability in his limited opportunities. I guess coaches could have been afraid of fumbling the ball, but could that have been worse than our final four piss-poor attempts at throwing for the victory?
