Williams, Martin designated "high-risk close contacts," will miss 49ers game

The Packers could be extremely thin at running back against the 49ers.

NFL Network reports that running back Jamaal Williams and rookie linebacker Kamal Martin, who were both added to the injury report late Monday evening after being determined to be "close contacts" to AJ Dillon, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, will be designated "high risk" close contacts.

This means they will be unavailable for Thursday night's game against the 49ers.

Needless to say, the Packers need to hope Aaron Jones is good to go coming off his calf injury, or their backfield could end up featuring Tyler Ervin and Dexter Williams, with some possible carries from fullback John Lovett.

Unfortunately, early word this week seems to indicate there's a good chance Jones still won't be ready

What!!! ANOTHER category for isolating a player...why can't they just test for it...so they should all have body cams on them so they can determine 24/7 who they are in 'close contact' with...ridiculous

Dexter Williams come on down. Your the next contestant on RB by committee!

Is Aaron Jones available or will he be rested again?

That’s not good. Not good at all. So we are seriously looking at Swervin who is just coming off an injury and Dexter Williams who has barely been active. Jeezus maybe Sternberger or Shepherd might need some emergency reps in practice. I am only half kidding.

If he is smart the would still be hurting to show the team what they get when he is out of the line up. I think he knows his time is up in GB soon and Dillon was his replacement. I'd stay hurt.

Why not just move game back to Sunday ?

I guess not a priority to accommodate Green Bay players the way it was for other teams earlier in the year.

I don't understand why they don't just postpone this game until Sunday or Monday. Everyone hates TNF anyway. It's difficult enough traveling cross country on a short week. Now we have to deal with a depleted roster as well. They've moved other games this year due to Covid. Why not this one? Do fans really want to see this watered down product on Thursday?

Yeah, and it's stupid to pretend that everyone who played in the Packers Vikings game was not possibly exposed as well.

So how is the whole VIkings defense not close contact as well?

I'm 100% for taking COVID seriously but I don't understand.

Our starters wouldn't be able to beat the 49ers B team. SF has a plethora of injuries still I foresee them running all over us and pressuring Rodgers. This may be an ugly loss.

Yes, with no weapons it gets much easier for the 49ers. Just double team adams and rush Aaron.

The Niners are loaded, even though top players are injured, still loaded with playmakers on both side the ball. Playmakers, we have two on this team, Rodgers and Adams thats it.

Lynch made the move for Aiyuk in front of the Pack and Gutedkunst was flumoxed again. So instead of a move down for two picks in round two he goes with the Replacement. He tried pleasing Pettine which is his biggest mistake by getting Kirksey and expecting miracle cures?? Great article in the Star Tribune on Zimmer showing how two solid safeties can control the Pack offense w/out viable WRs ( Lazard excluded), next to Adams. Without Jones, the Pack offense has to go all triple TEs and hope Bhaktiari is ready. Lindsley and Patrick both smashed by inside bulls, just like the Tampa game and the four games last season. Put Runyan inside.

In the Super Bowl both fullbacks were inactive which meant pass heavy for Rodgers who had 4 or more reliable receivers, now the Packers running backs are depleted which means more passing and we are lacking at receiver , again not drafting one or trading comes back to bite us.

That makes our team one dimensional. Now the 49ers can just concentrate on shutting adams and rush on Arod

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false."
--William Casey, CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

In our current dystopian enigma, quarantining the healthy is somehow just as important as quarantining the ill. By all accounts, we shouldn't drive anymore due to a risk of death, breath normally due to a risk of death, or go outside due to a chance of rain / snow.
Should this upside down logic continue, by all accounts, the Jets will find a way to win the SuperBowl this year and the Packers will have the #1 rated run defense by season's end too.

People like you are why we have over 200,000+ dead from covid19 with no end in sight. You and the other virus deniers are directly responsible for those deaths.

Stop spreading your diseased droplets. Put a mask on and shut up.

I'd like to see you take that opinion vs an anesthesiologist with 36 years wearing a mask in an operating room. Good luck.

Packers are in a 'no man's land' here. Positive cases usually take 10-14 days to show, and depending on how long a person was exposed to the superspreader, another 7-10 before a full blown case develops. The other major factor here is Covid-19 test kits being used are overly sensitive. The number of false-postives from these kits is pretty high. The other major problem for the Packers here is Covid-19 may have already spread within the team, but has not developed enough to test for. (Personal experience. Had 800 men tested negative. Two days later, 785 tested positive) Meaning, there's a greater than 50% chance that 30-40% of the active roster and coaches will test positive by Wednesday or game day. UGH... :-(

I took a 10 am mandatory pre surgery test at Mayo a month ago and had the results in the PM. It was the oral up the brain cavity and a blood test. Both took 15 seconds to administer so this two week crapola is for the media. If the test are the right ones they know almost immediately.

You were about to go into surgery at one of the top medical outfits in the world, with one of the best labs in the world? (Shakes head) Glad you are OK. But really, test kits vs. a fully scaled up hospital lab. (Stares at comment.... Stares some more....) To quote POTUS 44: "COME ON MAN"

ErnieErnie has never driven by the Mayo Clinic, much less been inside of it.

"It was the oral up the brain cavity...test ". What a bunch of malarkey. The guy did not have a surgery, please do not waste any well wishes on him.

No one knows whether Dillon spread Covid to even a single person. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that he is a superspreader.

Fingers crossed on this.

High risk. What the hell is high risk? If they didnt have the virus and tested negative we wouldnt be talking here. Of course they have it and I would be two or three more by tomorrow show up positive as well and the game gets cancelled.

Not Murphy's call. So don't blame him for this one. Texans' wanted more than Gute was willing to give, and Texans' either unwilling or more likely unable to get contract terms with Fuller that put him with Packers beyond this season.

The Pack is in 1st so Gute is content. Didn't pull the trigger on Fuller, and must be depending on Lazard playing soon. Our rookie LBer Martin out too, one of the few bright spots on defense. SF is so banged up there's no reason not to win this game. Pack 23-17

When Davante Adams was out of the line up (This year and last year), people marveled at how the offense just kept chugging. RBs, TEs, etc, moving the sticks.

Maybe the problem isn't an issue of not having enough good WRs. Maybe the problem is utilizing all the tools on the field.

This is an offensive scheme that has it's roots in big set formations with only 2 WRs on the field, hell, sometimes only one split wide. You hand off the ball, you hit the WR, you target the TE's and RBs.

Would a fancy new WR be nice? Sure, but I don't think it's necessary to make the offense go. If that was the case, the offense should have never put up points in 2019 or 2020 without Adams on the field.. yet it did.

SanFran just announced another COVID case a couple hours ago, one of their WRs. Facilities completely shut down. Why is the game still being played tomorrow?
