-- It's commonplace for the praise of young wide receivers during the dog days of training camp, but in a crowded room like the one the Green Bay Packers have, every small hint of acknowledgment can go a long way.

Especially if that positive affirmation is coming from Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers opened their slate of training camp practices on Thursday, showing off a myriad of different happenings. Whether it was the booming music, the fast-paced practice tempo or a couple of new drills being implemented before the public eye for the first time, it was the real, official day-one of the new coaching regime.

For Rodgers and co., it was another day at the office. Except Rodgers had his typical deck of targets shuffled throughout practices, ensuring that even those at the bottom of the barrel on the depth chart will have their fair share of opportunities.

"I think that means there's a lot of competition," Rodgers said after practice, via Packers.com. "There's a lot of guys we're looking at. I think the receiver room is fairly wide open."

There are obvious names that will likely stick around on the Packers' roster come September. Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison, the trio of second-year receivers from the 2018 draft class in Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown and J'Mon Moore. Jake Kumerow and Trevor Davis both seem to be on the fringe of the roster battling it out for the final spot. 

While Moore has battled drops throughout his young career, it's unlikely the Packers will move on so suddenly from a fourth-round pick in the midst of a scheme change. Alternatively, while Kumerow has established a well-documented connection with Rodgers, the trust aspect of their on-field relationship may not matter as much in a new offense where Rodgers won't need to be perfect.

Davis, meanwhile, offers the Packers their best special teams asset, both as a gunner and as a return man. He may also be able to find a role in head coach Matt LaFleur's offense that could certainly utilize a quick, shifty gadget player.

Jawill Davis, Allen Lazard, Teo Redding, Darrius Shepherd and Malik Taylor -- just signed last week -- are all on the outside looking in. But that fact won't stop them from getting reps with the first-team offense.

"We've obviously kept undrafted guys here in the past. Geronimo [Allison] is one of them. I think there's a lot of opportunities for young guys on that side of the ball; I'd love to see the progression with those guys.

"J'Mon has picked up his play recently as well and he feels good and looks good running around. [Shepherd] has done some nice things too. There's a ton of opportunity. It's day one of camp, there's zero jobs of the remaining 15 or so open spots. Zero have been earned so far. A lot can happen."

The Packers will have more opportunities to acclimate themselves to what LaFleur is looking for with his system, but for now, the best days for any unknown hoping to make the final roster as a surprise addition is ahead. The Packers' first preseason game is Thursday, Aug. 8 against the Houston Texans. It will come following a pair of joint practices with them on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6.
