We better get a running back with some juice. As much as we all love and respect Jones, I have little confidence he can play an entire 17 game schedule, even nursing his snap count, without getting hurt. We saw how much he means to this offense. Why do I keep earing the importance of getting a big, bruising running back, would be great for sure, but we need someone that can at least mirror what Jones provides. If he goes down for any significant time, without a decent replacement, it will become tough sledding.

I just did a mock draft and took Chop Robinson (BPA) with #25, Tyler Nubin with #41, Cooper Beebe with #58 and then finished day #2 off getting replacements for Dillon AND Jones in Braelen Allen at 88 and Jaylen Wright at 93. I got a lot of late round gems and some high RAS guys like Matt Goncalves, Marist Liufau, Elijah Jones, Christian Jones, Gabe Hall and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. I would be absolutely stoked if our draft fell that way.

Mb,

I don't really think there's any reasonable fear that Gutey will forget to get a RB. I think it's more a question of how many, and will he both sign a FA and draft?

My fear is if there's been a disconnect between the way Gutey drafts vs how MLF utilizes players, and if so, will the change of coaching staff bring that together or make the problem worse?

Personally, I think that both #33 and 28 on the field at the same time inherently stressed opposing defenses due to the wide variety of things they could do, but MLF rarely utilized that. Much more frequently he forgot 33 was in the game and apologized for not using him enough. Therefore my opinion of GB's ability to utilize a "big bruising back" goes down, and somebody who runs more like 33's style would hopefully make it easy enough for MLF to find success with. IMHO this also factors in to a fair evaluation of #28; most of his runs were stupid playcalls, just repeating the same play, and doing so without an adequate O line. Yes that shows in his stats, no it's not fair. Similarly, #33's drop rate / reception rate was largely JL10 missing him on easy layups, whereas 28 caught everything thrown his way (and turned many of those into substantial gains) but wasn't dealing with uncatchable passes like 33 was, so again the stat line doesn't show meaningful information.

Would #31 Wilson be usable as a substitute for 33? He has the speed to get around the corner, and is about halfway between the size of 28 and 33. It will be interesting to see if they keep him or what. Lots of RB talent available in this draft, I'm partial to all day Ray from TN, but he's very different from #33 so I don't know if MLF could ever utilize him well either.

Certainly we can't expect #33 to be used as the bell cow all season long, when he's never done that before.

The big bruising back replacement is for Dillon, not Jones.

I would love it if Allen fell to GB. I stated above I took Allen with the 88th pick and Wright with the 93rd pick. That fixes our whole RB room.

A big component to fixing the run defense is actually getting Wyatt to play the run. His pass rush has arrived, he just needs his run defense to catch up or it will get to the point he can't be an every down player.

Right now all we can do is speculate what the new coaching staff will be able to accomplish. I hope they teach better, adjust in-game better, and that this results in our roster performing not only better but better than their talent level. Also, with 100% buy-in and no hints of players getting demoralized.

No pressure! Just produce a championship level defense, that's all. Lol. Make opponents DREAD having to go to Lambeau, and bring the title back to Titletown! That's not too much to ask ...

Andy,

you don't expect dominant play from Wyatt?!? I DO!! The guy's a beast and this will be his third year. I expect the new staff to have all these guys playing with their hair on fire, totally prepared for week 1, and just getting better as the season goes on. OF COURSE they'll be playing at their best as they get into the playoffs and absolutely mop the floor with everybody else, winning the SB for the next decade.

This is Titletown, right? Patrick who?!?

Carry the G ...

PS I'm also hoping that the new and improved teaching turns LVN into the MONSTER player we know he can be.

Andy, "that kid from Kentucky," the RB, is

ALL DAY RAY!

Depending on which spelling / listing of his name you read it can be daunting or simple, but the man runs ALL DAY. About the only similarity to #33 is he plays with ALL HEART. Could MLF utilize him to his peak potential? I have no idea but I do think that developing behind #33 would give him a great opportunity to adjust his abilities to NFL competition and I'd love to see it. I'm partial to this guy, and partly because I expect him not to go early, so maybe Gutey could pick him on day 3?

Lots of talent at the position to choose from, but his 4.52 time is fast enough IMHO. His tendency to find daylight, run through walls, and get into the end zone is what the Packers are all about 😎
