Packers Select Rasheed Walker OT Penn State in 2022 NFL Draft - Round 7
By GilMartin
{Rasheed Walker, Penn State, OT}
MEASURABLES/PRO DAY:
CAREER NOTES:
Played defensive line in high school but switched to offensive line at Penn State. After a redshirt year, he started three years at Penn State, earning honorable mention All-Big 10 honors in two of them. Was injured late in his final season but started 10 games. Had 32 career starts with the Nitney Lions.
NFL SCOUTING REPORT:

FIT WITH THE PACKERS:
Walker was a bit of an underachiever at Penn State espeically against NFL-caliber opponents. Aiden Hutchinson embarrassed him in the game against Michigan. But if the Packers coaching staff can improve his technique, the physical tools are there for him to eventually become a starting right tackle in the NFL. He may also be able to play guard.

Feeling pretty good about our draft this year, thus far

Solid, Packers-type OL. Two good, roster-filling picks here in round 4.

dobs, it’s been this entire draft… completing the circle?
Depends much on these last 4 picks.

They were not the Scouts working the 2-4-1s in the cocktail lounge down in Mobile during the Senior Bowl.

6'4" and 304 lbs. is undersized these days. Wow! When I was a kid the guards and tackles were 240 lbs. And a loaf of bread was 20 cents . And our TV got 3 channels. And phones had rotary dials. Blah, blah, blah. Old fart alert!

Corey Linsley was one of the best centers in the NFL for 5 years and was listed at 6'3" 295-300.

Had him in every sim I did. Looks like they have him at C, but can play everywhere.
Maybe Zach Tom is versatile enough to be a long snapper as well. Saves a roster spot.

Usually had him paired with Lucas. Gutey brought Quay Walker into the equation and Lucas went to the Seachickens.

People have to get off the “one center to snap them all” hobby horse.

Probably needs a year in the weight room. He’s unusual as he’s never played guard, only C and T. He’s probably not a realistic T candidate in the pros based upon physique, but if he can learn guard he’d be a Patrick type. C is probably his best projection as a starting option. Smart, very technically competent and aware. Should pick things up fast.

Tyreke Smith just went. Edge candidates are becoming extremely few and far between. Honestly, would have to be an out of nowhere find to excite at this point. Veteran or they really like Ramsey and can keep him upright for once.

From my notes:
EDGE Ali Fayad - Western Michigan
6-2 248 32” arms
Less than ideal size but CONSTANTLY TOP GRADED PASS RUSH. Advanced ability & know how. Baits OTs. Every down he has a plan, and a VARIETY of moves to get QB. Spin, swim, chop, ghost. Needs strength, technique. Steal end R7.

Better than I could come up with.

April 30, 2022 at 01:59 pm
Quay Walker will be their speed Edge guy and Tipa should show up around 240-245lbs and stronger, we hope.
Otherwise; Ingram is out there, Jerry Hughes for spot duty?

Dominique Robinson
Isaiah Thomas
Van Van Vanvalkenberg
Kingsley Enagbare (my favorite of those left)
Ryder Anderson

Zach Tom is just another phenomenal add by Gutekunst. Phenomenal. The kind of versatility we needed. We’ll be a much better team with these adds alone in Walker, Wyatt, Watson, Rhyan, Doubs & now Tom! With 4 more picks? I like it.
Amazing the reality of our team needs punching us in the face as we work through this draft!
My pick 171 is:
****
CB Joshua Williams - Fayetteville State
6-2 195 4.46!!!
FLUID HIPS. FEET. HIP POCKET. SMOOTH. Backpedal. SPEED. Stops on a dime. ALWAYS ready, in phase as ball arrives to make a play. Plays quick game/deep routes equally well. Man/zone. AGGRESSIVE..
+BALL SKILLS 5 INT 22PBU 79 TCKLS, 4 TFL, 2 TDs (1 on PR)
REMARKABLE length & closing speed for a natural CB.

Broncos selected a player at 171. So......
Google says GB traded 171 for 179 and 234.

Given how deep this draft is the Packers essentially get 4 picks in round 7, which equates to getting 4 of the best UDFAs without having to bid against other teams. A good year to stack 7ths.
As for Tom, he is a mock draft favourite of many - super athletic tackle that needs some weight on.
dobber
April 30, 2022 at 02:41 pm
They can package their two early 7s to move up into round 6, too, where they have no picks....and still have 2 7s.
Thegreatreynoldo
April 30, 2022 at 03:40 pm
7th rounders get perhaps $95K signing bonus. They can be thought of as UDFAs but they cost a lot more if they don't make the 53.

I think he can gun on punts, too.
Coldworld
April 30, 2022 at 02:51 pm
Slowly. 4.87 40 is a bit slow for a gunner.
He’s neither strong nor flexible. Not sure what his upside is. Best on the inside in college, where he could get pressure in a straight line, but I’m not seeing that in the pros
Thegreatreynoldo
April 30, 2022 at 02:46 pm
Well, I don't want to hear GM-speak on how surprised GB was when he was there at 179. He was there at 171 and the packers decided to trade back to pick up 234. Maybe Enagbare would last 7 more picks, maybe not. Easy come, easy go.
Coldworld
April 30, 2022 at 02:53 pm
They must see something. They could have just ignored edge in the 5th, unless you are suggesting desperation?
Thegreatreynoldo
April 30, 2022 at 03:43 pm
Not really. Just noting the facts. If they loved Enagbare in any particular way, they would have taken him at 171 rather than risk losing him just to pick up pick 234.

Thx Gil, Paul, Bruce, and CHTV gang. Like Rhyan, and Tom, but have some douts on BG picks and where. All will be well after a few more.
I can now forgive you for that trade-up by trading back and getting a player in need w/ Enagbare. Rrrrrrrrrr
