Packers Question of the day - Expectations for Sunday

Another year, another playoff match-up with the New York Football Giants at Lambeau Field.

The Packers are riding a hot streak that consists of six straight wins ever since Aaron Rodgers said his team can "run the table" from 4-6 and on.

The Giants, meanwhile, are sporting one of the best defenses in the league and carry their own momentum into Green Bay, looking to play spoiler to another magical Packers' season.

What are your expectations for Sunday?

I expect a Packer win. Let's face it. We have no one who can cover Beckham and there is no scheme with the personnel we have that will shut him down. The best bet is consistent pressure on Manning and prevent him from standing in the pocket and winding up and heaving deep to a wide open Odell B. I think the defense limits the damage enough to allow the offense to make enough plays to win. Packers 31-23.

Gunter did a decent job on OBJ earlier in the year. Overall I agree. I expect Capers to launch blitzers from every direction, and they will get home!

I got GB 23-10 and a healthy dose of frustrated 'Manning Face' by the end of the third quarter.

That's what concerns me. He always seems to turn on a switch in the post season. D needs to stop that from happening this time. Play like Seattle game and we'll be fine. Then the O can take care of the rest.

Our receivers + Cook will be hard to stop. Monti in the backfield makes him a double threat that will eat up defenders.

I think our run game will play a key roll Sunday. If it can be decently effective we can help out our D by some long drawn out drives to keep them off the field OBJ can't hurt us as much.

Clay & Nick have to have monster games and we have to play without last week's boat load of dumb mistakes. Play with smart, focused intensity.

We could go big this week but I expect it to be close, either 30-24 or 24-20 Pack.

I think there is going to be a huge weight on the defense to cause some turnovers. If they do I think the Packers win, since I trust Rodgers and company to protect the football.

Back in October the OL did a nice job against the Giants. I expect a lot of run pass option to start the game with Monty in the backfield. Then look for some Ripkowski and maybe some play action off of a Ripkowski fake. As good as the Giants defense is the Packers' OL and a smart QB can keep them guessing. Chew the clock with drives taking at least five minutes and this game gets manageable.

Packers 24-17

I expect Gunter to get burned by Beckham once but otherwise control him. I expect their defense to play well but we'll hit a few big plays.

And I expect the Pack to win, 26-20

With Marshall Newhouse on the field we have a great chance of winning. If Tillman is serious about playing for us TT needs to get him. Tillman at half throttle is better than our best DB.

It looks like Matt Ryan is going to get the nod at MVP so maybe AR will have one of his "chip-on-the-shoulder' games and exceed his average playoff performance. He plays better when he's pissed off.

If the Pack score 10 points I would be shocked. I got the Giants up by 18 at half time. Eli has never met a more pourous pass defense. I think he wets himself when he see's how un covered his guys are.
Whats the point of Rogers and the Offense when the defense has been a piece of work and hasnt held its end up. This is a one sided team and they will be exposed big time.

Can't you just enjoy the fact the Packers are in the Playoffs? I mean this team just makes you miserable so why even watch Sunday?

Tell you what. I Guarantee the Packers aren't losing by 18 at halftime. Matter of fact I'm so certain of it lets make a deal. Packers not down by 18 you give us a month break from posting comments. If the Packers ARE losing by 18 I'll stay away for 2 months...DEAL??????

BTW... Don't you think Giants Fans are saying the same thing about their Offense as you say about the Packers Defense?

Anyways back to the deal... Common let's do it.... 18 or more at halftime and I'm gone for 2 months, anything less than 18 you go away for month????

Common Al...Do it for Polk High!!!!

I expect the coaching staff to teach RR not to look back at the runner when he is lead blocking. We should give RR the nickname of "WHISKERS" because he doesn't block anyone but he made sure the hole was big enough for Rip.

Does anyone else think it might have been a good idea for RR to try to block #32?

Hate to be negative, but I can't see enough reasons for more than a 50-50 chance of packers to win. Giants match up favorably against packers; better pass rush, strong DB core, and a resurgent running game, and that Beckham problem against GB DBs. Giants aren't intimidated by Lambeau either. I see Giants opening up with a run game w the rookie PPerkins (a pick Packers should have drafted). However, Giants (Eli) can beat themselves....so there is a chance.

I fully expect the corners (not just the one covering ODB with HHCD over the top) to have at least 3 embarrassing moments in the game. That's just going to be the case against everyone we play for the rest of the year.

The bottom line is that GB has to stop NY's running game and put some hits on Eli. The turnovers will come if they do. Stealing 1-2 possessions equals a Packer win. 0-0 turnover battle equals a coin flip, and we seem to lose those under MM and AR every year.

or let the guy your covering run by you so you stop and let the play happen hoping the guy doesnt catch the ball.
I've never, ever seen a corner just stop and let the guy run down the field and watch. Must be really out of shape and saving himself for the next play?

It's a zone coverage failure. They are reading the QB, but obviously doing a poor job of it.

The play of AR will determine the outcome of this game, just like the last six games on the schedule. --- AR will have to be able to offset GB's lack of pass defense. -- Eli to Beckham could be the real issue for the "D". -- If Cousins, Mariota and Barkley can all look like pro-bowlers against GB's "D", Manning can too.

I think you have to add in MM's play calling with that. He can set AR up for success or for failure. He's been digging pretty deep into the playbook lately and I suspect has invented a play or two the past several weeks (like that 2 FB offset backfield with Monti) He better be careful or he just might start to develop the reputation of being a Wild and Crazy Guy...

If the Packers offense plays with the same controlled aggressive unpredictability against the Giants as they did in the 4th quarter against Detroit, the Packers will win. I don't care how good the Giants defense is. When Jordy is playing in the slot, and we have Adams and Allison on the outside with Cook coming across the middle and Monty out of the backfield and AR mixing up plays and delivering accurate throws, no defense can stop that. The Packers looked THAT GOOD in the 4th quarter against Detroit!

As far as our defense is concerned, yes our cornerbacks are vulnerable. However, the Giants have a weakness in the OL and I expect Capers to exploit the hell out of that weakness and not give Eli the time to pick apart our secondary. Sure, the Giants are going to score some, but not enough--Packers 27 Giants 17.

Close game, anything can happen, etc. etc. Give the Packers the edge for being hotter with a better QB and playing at home.

I think it will be a classic brawl befitting the legacy of both teams. I like our offense and think the secondary, while not to be confused with 'great' or maybe even 'good', has some how learned how to survive by doing just enough. Your greatest strength is to know your own weakness and be able to lessen the negative effect of that weakness as much as possible.

I think it will be at tight one but if it's close at the end, our offense is more than capable of overcoming a prevent defense in the final 2 minutes even if we are behind. The question is, can we defend a small lead with our secondary in prevent mode in the final 2 minutes? That's a tough one.

In the end, I think we do enough early to be able to hang on late to win a close one.

Had a good laugh coming home today. Heard on the radio that a NYG defender said that what's all the worry about Ty Montgomery, he's just a WR, just hit him and he'll go down. He must of missed Ty running THRUOUGH the Det LB last week. Anyway, if that's they way you feel NYG, by all means go with it.

Just a few measurables for comparison:
Vikings-Adrian Peterson 220 lbs,
Chargers-Melvin Gordon 207 lbs,
Patriots-James White 205 lbs,
Denver-Devontae Booker 219 lbs,
Packers-Ty Montgomery 221 lbs.

He also averages more yards after contact than any other RB in the NFL. Granted limited carries but still, the guy doesn't go down with the first hit often at all.

The GB game opened at GB-3 1/2. Not Good for GB!! It's now moved to GB-5 GB-5 1/2, Not Great, but much better. If it stays or goes to GB-6, I'll be on them. I've got some cash from 4 in a row to spend. I like Detroit +8 1/2
I may be wrong, but I'm going to take a chance here. like the fact that the line hasn't moved. It's worth a couple of bucks. If it goes higher, I won't go with it. GO PACK!!

Well done packers. You played well enough to get into the play offs saving ted mike and doms job. So we start over next year snafu. This team will never make a deep run and rogers career will be wasted because tight ass ted refused to beef up the pass d with free agent help. What a waste.

Most of what is said is true and common knowledge. The Packers will have some new things we have not seen.

That is what I mean.

I have no expectations at all - none.

I have no idea which Packer team will show up and I have no idea which Eli Manning will show.

Since the answers to those questions are crucial to the result, and since I cannot answer those questions, no expectation.

I will be interested to see how rookie RB Paul Perkins plays for the Giants, as I wanted the Packers to draft him (he was 10th pick in round 5, #149 overall) - but I cannot complain about the two late 4th picks of the Packers where they could have taken him (Martinez and Lowry at picks #131 and #137).

Why draft a loser. Small frame and no breaking speed. Gets pushed around. Bottle him up and bet he fumbles. This is his first cold game. Bet he coughs up the football! Your expectations should be a Packer win!

Perkins had 10 carries for 30 yds, so nothing special there.

We did see Rodgers at his best, we saw the Packers receivers catching almost everything catchable that aired out their way. We saw an average Eli Manning, and Odell Beckham dropped a couple.

That all added up to a hugely satisfying win for the Packers - a real feel good game.
