The Packers have agreed in principle to terms of a contract with fourth-round draft choice and safety Jerron McMillian, according to Rob Demovsky at PackersNews.com, citing McMillian's agent Abu Toppin. “Jerron should be under contract by the time the (rookie) minicamp begins,” said Toppin. Rookie orientation camp begins on Friday and lasts through Sunday.

Jerron McMillian is just the beginning of draft picks agreeing to terms, Rob Demovsky writes in an article appearing in the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "A source familiar with the negotiations said Packers vice president of football administration/player finance Russ Ball was deep into negotiations on Tuesday and expected to have all eight draft picks signed before the three-day rookie camp begins," reports Demovsky. In the past, rookies typically wouldn't sign contracts until shortly before or into training camp. But with the new rookie wage scale in the NFL, little room is left for negotiation.

Charles Woodson generally echoed comments he's made before––that he'd be willing to move to safety––on an appearance on Green and Gold Today Tuesday on the ESPN Radio affiliate in Milwaukee, 540 AM. Woodson did offer some elaboration, however. “I’m not opposed to that,” said Woodson. “But we have to make sure that our cornerback position is going to be solidified and we’re going to be comfortable with who’s going to be out there at the corner.” The point remains that Woodson was still very effective defending the slot last season, and it could be counterproductive to move him from that position. It's been generally thought that new second-round draft choice Casey Hayward might be able to man that position, but the Packers have to find out if he's ready first. Or Jerron McMillian is ready to play safety in the NFL.

Other topics Charles Woodson touched upon during his radio interview were regarding the recent release of Nick Collins, the Packers going defense heavy during the NFL Draft and a recent visit to the Whitehouse Correspondents Dinner.

The agent for Ryan Grant commented on Tuesday to Jason Wilde of ESPNWisconsin.com on the free agent running back's recent non-visit to the Detroit Lions. "Grant’s agent, Alan Herman, said Tuesday that he and Grant canceled the trip because of 'economic issues,'" writes Wilde. "He didn’t elaborate, but it seems safe to assume that had the Lions’ offer been more lucrative, Grant would have taken the visit." I would disagree that it's safe to assume Grant would have visited had the Lions' offer been more lucrative. The first reason is because it's just a visit. In many cases, a visit along with a workout take place first and then negotiations take place later. The second reason is because Grant has gotten such little interest on the free agent market that he's really not in a position to hold out for more money. The Detroit Free Press reported the Lions said they had never scheduled to begin with. It's possible Herman is lying through his teeth.

Rookie safety Jerron McMillian was interviewed for a feature article appearing at Fox Sports Wisconsin. "Like a lot of people that go to small schools, I have a chip on my shoulder," McMillian said. "(Going to a small college) made it that much harder to get where I needed to go, and coming from Maine, we know we don't get as much run as everyone else. We maybe didn't have the special facilities or workroom, but you're all going to be doing the same thing in there." With safety being one of the thinnest positions on the team, McMillian has a big opportunity ahead of him.
