Short, currently a baseball umpire in southern Wisconsin's Home Talent League, is featured in my new book It's Just a Game.

In the 1960s, he was a confidant of Lombardi at a time kicking was transitioning into a profession all its own. He mentored such notable Packers players as Paul Hornung and Jerry Kramer.
