I agree with Perri. Fans should be appreciating the vast improvement by a team who have a first year QB & 7 rookie (6th-7th round) receivers who scared a 1st seed in their house and completely dominated another well-respected team just 5 days prior. The national media and fans of other teams are heaping respect on the youngest team, a 7th seed and their accomplishments. I've also read many compliments from 49er fans.

I am astonished @ the GB fan's criticisms--not a good look.

GB fans should be focusing on pushing back (hard) on Joe Barry's return.

Perri hits the nail on the head on the role of Carlson in this loss in terms of context. Let’s not lose ourselves in the visually obvious. There are a lot of things that we did wrong to surrender points.

As to Carlson, he wasn’t actually that bad over the season. He was not good, but he’s a rookie. He either gets better or gone. He was more impressive than Crosby this year. He actually converted at about Crosby’s career average and much better than Crosby did this year.

Good kickers aren’t littering the streets at this time of year, they are under contract. Time to move on, get real competition for the summer and hope he works in his craft in the down months. We know LaFleur and his staff doesn’t move on from players (or coaches) until absolutely forced. They stick with them even when the results are far worse than Carlson.

Focus now on all the other things that led to unconverted points or those surrendered too readily. Those are the things we can work on understanding and correcting through what we can do between now and the summer. Those are the things that will have the biggest impact on our upside for next year. That’s how we get better.

I recently listened to another well-respected podcaster who said that Bisaccia was pushing hard for Carlson (went to the mat) and is a friend of the Carlson family. I was troubled by that.

If LaFleur is the Head Coach we need, Barry will not be our DC. This is a critical tell for LaFleur. One way lies talent held back, the other a determination to be as good as we can be as a team, which has to be the only lodestar for a successful Head Coach.

I'm not going to suggest that this loss came down to one play or one player. The Packers had the 9ers on their heels and as Dennis Green once said, "We had them on the ropes, and we let 'em off the hook".
Yeah, a rookie kicker missed a FG, but might have gotten another chance had the 1st year QB not thrown a pick. We may have gotten a 1st down on the 4th and 1/2 if they'd have huddled to make sure everyone was on the same page, but they didn't, Why Not? The clock wasn't a factor at the time, so that's on MLF.
The DBs, as is Barry's trademark, played 10-15 yds deep all night allowing too many 1st downs when needing a stop and the tackling was atrocious, another Joe Barry trademark. I can't recall a single D-back blitz, Rashan Gary was once again invisible, and it appears Campbell just can't run anymore. A Safety that can tackle would be a great idea. If any of this is coach able it again falls back to Barry, and ultimately onto LaFleur.
Within the next (hopefully) few days we'll find out whether or not LaFleur has what it takes to do what's truly best for the team, or whether his buddy is more important than the organization, his players, and his job. Go ahead and make the call, Coach! It's time to shit or get off the pot!
Yes, I am and should be happy with this season as a whole, its what coulda'-been, shoulda'-been that pisses me off.

funny thing happened during the rebuild season, the Packers got good and with 2 first round corners out hurt, , Gutey traded away the only solid corner Rasul Douglas , why did he do this ? because he thought the season was tanking is why , then the Packers started winning and we had no experienced corners, now this will again be a defense heavy draft with a glaring need at corner, safety and inside linebacker.

Well LP, at least we have 5 great picks in the first 3 rounds to fill these glaring holes. Since the former #1 need, OT has been downgraded because of great play from Toms and Walker, we can concentrate on fixing the Safetey room just like we rebuilt WR & TE.

And unless someone fabulous at a position of need falls to us at #25, I would, if we can find a trade partner, move back to late 1st or early second because thats right where the best safeties will start coming off the board. Filling our #1 need and gaining multiple higher picks would be like Xmas day all over. A trade back could net us at least another 2nd or 3rd plus more. That fills another hole earlier than expected with a new starter @ ILB, Edge, RB, or O-line. Filling one of those holes lets us move on or trade Campbell, P Smith, Savage, or RB if we can't resign Jones.

This could be a great draft for GB since we don't seem to have as many needs as the past 2 years and are starting to come out of salary cap hell. Scoring a starting Safety, even while moving back to gain more high picks would be a huge bonus, if possible.

Some team always wants to move back into round one for the extra year of player control. There could be 3 QBs still around by the Packers pick in Bo Nix, Penix, and McCarty from Michigan. We can take advantage of their greed just like we did with the Saints a couple of years ago, and still get our big need filled. I would take Nubin, Kinchen, Bullard, or Bullock, in that order, and not need to spend a high pick on any of them. Could be sweet.

So much to be thankful for as a Packer Fan this year.

- that comeback win in Lambeau against the saints

- Thanksgiving day against the lions and then backing that performance up in prime time against KC

- Love going from question mark to hottest QB in the league over just 3 months

- Going into the year with this WR and TE room could have been an absolute disaster, preventing a proper evaluation of Love. We could be here arguing whether it was Love that was the issue, or the young receivers. Instead we're talking about having an MVP candidate in Love next year AND a receiver room that makes most teams envious.

- Which brings us to MLF. Who deserves the credit for taking the youngest team in the league to the playoffs, and having a legitimate shot at Superbowl? I shake my head at the critics - you could do so much worse than having MLF as your leader. The guy is a competitor and you can see how badly he wants to win championships. Just an outstanding job this year and he deserves coach of the year votes.

- And how about Gute recognition for the absolute heater he's been on the past few years, on top of drafting and developing Love? Man I hope he stays hot this year.

I refuse to lose perspective. This year was excellent in so many ways and I'm so proud of this team. And thankful for the year they just delivered.

I know Packer fans would probably prefer a different comparison, but there are so many parallels with this team to the 2015 Chicago Cubs. A bunch of crazy young guys, who throughout the year figured out that their ceiling was higher than anyone had a right to imagine. Went into the playoffs that year and beat their hated rivals in St. Louis, but then lost to a mature WS contender in the next round. They took that into the offseason and made history the following year. I hope we see the same story in GB.

If Carlson is okay then one, pack fans accept average and mediocre as okay and thus dont care about the playoffs and certainly arent hoping for a super bowl. Carlsons, Watsons, Cambells, Savages, Stokes and Nixons wont get you anywhere near that goal. But its okay, 17 weeks of GB football win or lose doesnt matter.
Sure are a lot of people on this board who are accepting average but hope for mercedes.

There is a lot of dead wood on this team you must get rid of. Plus guys who spend their lives on the bench with injuries not contributing but also letting others play for them and wearing down. Way too many guys who seem to be hurt all the time, in an out the line up and making things inconsistent for the coaching staff.

Fire Carlson and say, its been a ride your getting off the next stop pal. Had your chance and blew it.

Cutting P Smith doesn't save much salary cap wise. Only saves $2 million and he was productive this year. Campbell on the other hand was not productive, but cutting or trading also saves only $2 million. After next year would save alot more on both players. Smith had a below average 2022 and better 2023. We paid Savage almost $6 million last year. We could find a much better FA for less than that.

Bad news for pack fans, most of our secondary are free agents that no one else will want so that means Murph can play cheap ball and give them a bag of peanuts and were stuck with these suckers. He probably will keep Dillon to even after watching KC run out 4 very fast elusive running backs that wore down defenses, he will save a buck on mr 4 yards and a crash.
The Pack should rebuild the secondary, this is the optimum time with some guys who can cover and tackle and have speed, bundle picks or what ever but get rid of the dead wood now.

More obvious needs in the draft than RB but if the top two are gone in the first three rounds, Brooks and Benson? ...cant remember.. but anyway Blake Corum would be a nice addition as long as Jones stays...he's a thorn in the side of most teams with his power and football smarts...not a big burner but an excellent football player...

No need to bundle picks to draft a top Safety. If we took one at #25 it would more than likely be the first one picked. If we could find a trade partner to move back late first or early second, that would also probably be the first Safety taken. We would pick up at the very least another premium pick and still get a top 3 Safety. That would get us another opportunity to fill a hole with a top player.

Does anyone know if Brenton Cox was suited up for the SF game? He is a wild card possibility at Edge next year. Any info on him?
