NFL and NFLPA Reach Agreement, Packers Camp Starts Next Week
Friday's agreement clears the way for the Packers to begin training camp, as scheduled, next Tuesday.

As Andrew Brandt is fond of saying, deadlines spur action. And with a deadline looming to get an agreement done between the NFL and the NFLPA or risk delaying the scheduled start to 2020's training camp, said deadline served its purpouse.
The NFLPA released the following statement after receiving the latest offer from the league
“Our NFLPA Board of Representatives voted to adopt, by a count of 29-3, the proposed amendments to the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement to protect our players’ health, safety and financial well-being."
League commissioner Roger Goodell released his own statement:
“We have worked collaboratively to develop a comprehensive set of protocols designed to minimize risk for fans, players, and club and league personnel,These plans have been guided by the medical directors of the NFL and the NFLPA and have been reviewed and endorsed by independent medical and public health experts, including the CDC, and many state and local public health officials. The season will undoubtedly present new and additional challenges, but we are committed to playing a safe and complete 2020 season, culminating with the Super Bowl.”
What does this mean for the Packers? They will report to training camp on Tuesday and follow close to this schedule laid out by SI’s Albert Breer:
Day 1 (July 28): Testing/virtual meetings.
Days 2-3 (July 29-30): Virtual meetings.
Day 4 (July 31): Testing/virtual meetings.
Days 5-6 (Aug. 1-2): Physicals.
Days 7-15 (Aug. 3 through Aug. 11): Strength and conditioning (with a day off.)
Day 16 (Aug. 12): Practice starts.
Day 18 (Aug. 14): Players can practice with helmets.
Day 21 (Aug. 17): First padded practice.
It's almost time for some football.

Seeing how baseball is pandering to BLM I expect the NFL to really suck up to them , I won’t be ordering the Sunday ticket or watch the games I will read up on news and watch highlights but that’s it.

1. Glad they at least came to a semi-reasonable compromise. I'm surprised, actually.
2. From what I've read, the cap hits in 2021 are not good for the Packers. They already have close to the most money committed to the 21 cap, and they've got 4 starters to re-sign.
This offseason was the first time I really started to seriously entertain the thought that ARod wouldn't win another Lombardi. This, if true, only makes it harder. Perhaps we should look into trading ARod in the offseason and reloading under Love.
Yes, I realize these musings will get lots of downvotes. I'm fine with that.

Downvote for what, telling the truth. We all knew the Cap would be bad news for the Packers, even without the threat of Convid-19. Without Cap relief the odds of signing Clark and Bakh and Jones etc. went way way down. The only silver lining is most of the teams in the league will share the Packers fate. The free agent market could be chaos next year. At least the owners finally bent to reality with the expansion of the rosters to 90, and that may not be enough in the latter half of this season. Both sides should think seriously of cutting down the regular season to 10-12 games. Longer the season goes, the greater the chance of a superspreader. (I wonder who demanded their money back first from the nets. I lay odds on Fox... :-)

I agree, being a free agent next year will not be as lucrative as before. Many might sign contracts with a lower year one cash value. There are many teams that are in worse shape than us.

I'm starting to think the same thing BM... I think the possibility of trading Rodgers next offseason is becoming more and more of a reality for the Packers.

Strangely, it really is. Love actually fits the offense better than Rodgers. Lefleur really has had enough of the schoolyard ball I believe and I get it. If I spend 16 hours a day designing and structuring a gameplan I am confident can be successful, I expect that plan to be executed. Judging strictly from facial expressions and manuerisms of MLF last year, I think Rodgers checked out of a lot of what Lefleur called and I bet many were called runs.....and RPO. (which were a complete disaster). I really believe Rodgers retreated back to his comfort zone more than many think. We have not even seen half of the MLF offense. I still think the likelyhood is 2 years of Rodgers but 1 year would not blow my mind now. Rodgers is also in decline as I have said ad nauseam. We will never see 2014 Rodgers again. He still a very good player, but no longer transcendent...and if Rodgers keeps holding the ball for 6,7,8 seconds then the Love era will begin sooner than later due to injury.

Bearmeat, a $175M cap limit for 2021 sounds like a disaster to me for the Packers and a bunch of other teams.
I am still processing this information. I will try for some mature reflection but don't count on it!

There's no doubt the virus changing roster management and long term team plans is becoming a very real thing, and not just for the Packers. It very well could close some windows around the league.
The question now is: how many players will choose the opt-out option and how will that impact play?

It is still not clear what restrictions or conditions are being imposed on players and teams to isolate individuals not only during training camp but during the regular season. Obviously, players and team personnel should be obliged to wear masks and practice strict social distancing and avoid closed spaces. For the NFL season to proceed, teams will need to be extremely vigilant in a way that perhaps sets an example for all Americans.
It would only take one or two players who are infected with the coronavirus to spread it to most of their teammates. Unless there is daily testing with results provided the same day the infection can spread from asymptomatic players to others during practice days. And team meetings should oblige players to be seated six feet apart and wear mask. Will strict social distancing and mask requirements be observed during the season? If not, what will be the consequences if one team reports five infected players, for example? Would this mean that the entire team would need to quarantine for ten days? Would this require the cancellation of that team's next game? Whatever the case, I am not sure whether the media, much less NFL and Packers' fans in particular, have thought ahead far enough about the implications of what one or multiple infected players or team personnel would have on that team and games against other teams the following week. I also have not seen any details of official NFL protocols regarding what happens under such circumstances. Perhaps this would be a good topic for Mr Nagler to address in his next livechat.

Not it it very unclear as to weather the NFL or any individual team has a adopted best practice guidelines or their own protocals for testing as far as whom, how often, when and what type of test (swabs, molecular, antibody) I do think the NFL knows what they need to do.....I can tell you even for providers cepheid had a 6-8 waiting list for a machine....and asking for an up front contract.......and getting it.......

If the Packers players do the same as the baseball players, they can just kiss my butt. I'll spend my Sundays out on the golf course in the woods and rough looking for my own balls.

Yes, it is tough to stomach (especially for veterans like me). I was raised to stand and honor our sacred flag and anthem that represent freedom, equality, victory, hope and the troops who fought, were wounded and died for these values. I love our Packers and I hate the insertion of divisive politics in sports and in many of our institutions today. I am really struggling with what to do if our privileged players take a knee.

Hang in there Gman1976. I view the kneeling as an insult to guys like you and the great many who have lost their lives. I suspect many of the posters on this and similar websites are young and simply don't appreciate what you soldiers have done to keep this nation free and preserve our way of life. For me I am eternally grateful to have the freedom and opportunity provided to me by heroic soldiers. I am well educated, retired, and quite successful and without the sacrifices of the military soldiers who love this country and our flag, I and millions of others like me would likely be dead or speaking German or some other foreign language. I thank you.
