Analysis

Against the Run: 4.0/5.0

Jack puts his head in the right gap and is unafraid (and more often than not, excited) to stand up blockers much larger than him.

Pass Rush: 2.0/5.0

He has not yet developed an effective move off the edge, and though he can deliver a blow, he does not sustain that paower for an effective bull rush.

Coverage: 4.0/5.0

When it comes to squaring up one-on-one, turning his hips, and running stride for stride with a receiver, Jack is nothing short of silky smooth.

Agility: 5.0/5.0

On either a vertical or a post route, you will see him match speed with slot recceivers like Julian Edelman. In pursuit, he changes direction on a dime to bring down runners.

Impact Play Ability: 4.0/5.0

Jack's athleticism makes him dangerous when he finds himself in the right place during pass plays, which is often. He's a pick six threat against most receivers.

Overall Grade: 3.8/5.0

Jack is not out to make the big play, he's out to make the best play. Whether it's getting around blockers to the ball-carrier, or putting his head down and standing up offensive lineman to plug gaps, he works in the est interest of the defense. Though a proficient coverage man, he is a linebacker first and foremost. Doubts about his size in the NFL were addressed at the combine when he weighed in at 245 lbs. His athleticism allows him to rule his area of the field similar to Deone Bucannon of the Arizona Cardinals or Lavonte David of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Drafted by the Packers

Jack's ability to keep up with slot receivers mean he's a three-down linebacker, whether third down is a passing down or a rushing down. The combination of Matthews and Jack over the middle of the field would be a match made in Heaven, a pairing made possible by teams perhaps unwilling to take a chance on the injured Jack in the first round. While drafting Jack would mean the Pack would be stuck looking for pass-rushers outside of te first round, we may find that a Tier-1 talent in the middle of the field frees up Clay Matthews to return to his ways of terrorizing opposing QBs.

Our defense needs coverage over the middle of the field, and it needs help in the run game. Jack emphatically checks both boxes. If available when our pick comes on April 28th, it's hard to imagine getting a better value than Jack.

I've thought this guy might be a nice fit for the Packers since he can cover all over the field. He wouldn't need to pass rush much more than consuming a guard on the occasional X inside blitz.

Just the idea of having Jack Ryan out there is enough to strike fear into any enemy.

It seems strange to be breaking down Myles Jack when he should be gone by pick 8 in this draft. No way he lasts to 27. It would be more productive to break down Leonard Floyd, Joshua Perry or even Jaylon Smith (if he is still on board due to concerns about his nasty ACL injury). Jack had a similar injury, but is much further along in his recovery and his progress is rather easier to determine (and therefore less risk to the conservative GMs) .

Or his brother Jake, who also crushed it in Sixteen Candles.
