Excitement for the Title Belt at Packers Training Camp

The genius move of David Bakhtiari to challenge Mike Daniels and the defensive line will help both units become stronger for the regular season.

When Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari had a championship belt created for the first day of practice in pads last summer, a heated rivalry between the offensive and defensive lines of the Packers began through the rest of training camp.  Bakhtiari, a larger than life personality that brings both humor and fun to the team, teased defensive lineman Mike Daniels about the battle that would follow saying that the winning squad in each practice would bring the belt back to the locker room for the day.  Daniels, who is quite the jokester and the motivated individual himself, quickly obliged.  From there, a much-followed war ensued during run blocking drills each day in training camp.

NFL training camps have a long history of players fighting against one another as they battle for final roster positions.  The largest athletes in the world going toe to toe with one another often brings out the fiercest side of the men and the competition can often lead to them foolishly punching each other while donning masked helmets.  The hand to hand combat of the drills between offensive and defensive linemen are often in the most intimate of settings and tempers can flare in the trenches very quickly.  Escalating these situations even more is the fact that training camp is held during the high heat of summer where the humidity intensifies the blood, sweat and tears that the players leave on the field on a daily basis.

I give all the credit in the world to the leaders of each side of the linemen units for making this competition during training camp both fun and motivating.  At the end of the day, after the battles are fought, the units are still working together for one goal as a team and the leadership that is shown by both Daniels and Bakhtiari is impressive.

As the 2018 Green Bay Packers look to head to training camp next week, the battle for the title belt will ensue once again and this year should prove to be another great battle.  First, the defensive line will enter training camp as a completely solid unit with Daniels, Kenny Clark, Mo Wilkerson and Dean Lowry returning as the stalwarts of the squad.  Other hungry youngsters in Montravius Adams, Joey Mbu, James Looney and Conor Sheehy will be itching to make a name for themselves early in camp.

On the offensive side of the ball, Bakhtiari, Bryan Bulaga, Lane Taylor and Corey Linsley return as starters and will be looking to prove their dominance against the defensive front.  Many young players stand behind them looking to make an impression on the coaching staff and their fellow teammates to secure a spot on the final 53-man roster.  Depth at the offensive line could prove to be vital as the Packers progress through the 2018 season and the next men in line behind the starters will begin to be determined as the units go head to head during training camp.

The war in the trenches is one of the most intriguing and vital parts of any football game.  As the 2018 Packers look to impose their will on their opponents, fans of the team can be thankful that the leaders of each respective unit are there to motivate their teammates to bring home the title belt after each training camp practice.  This friendly competition should help to bring out the best in everyone and while I won’t be rooting for a particular unit each day, simply knowing that the stakes are high between the units brings a big smile to my face.

Rodgers is a constant in pursuing the SB title. The variation during the post season games are the injuries to the guys in the trench. Would like to see all 5 Oline guys make it through a season w/o major injuries. The "iron sharpens iron" mantra is good for both sides of the ball. Want to see Wilks against Bak...that should crack some helmets!

By and large most (if not all) football games are won/lost by the "big uglies" in the trenches. I'd forgotten about Bakhtiari's belt from last year. I love that it gives even more competitive incentive to the players. This should be a fun competition to keep track of at TC.

Be fun if packers.com would publish a daily update on who was voted to have won the best during camp.

Man just give me a solid right side of the O-Line by week one and I'll be a happy camper. Just hope EVERYBODY stays healthy. If that happens the Packers should be able to keep Rodgers upright.

Great teams have had dominant o lines. The Packers biggest concerne right now is RT, I hope it doesn't turn out to be the elephant in the room like other positions in the past. I believe it's why they signed M Lewis which was an excellent move. It's a long season and having an intact line on defense and offense will be huge at the end. Also having outspoken leaders on each side of the ball is great.

I am very excited about the D line. There is enough talent there to let Pettine rush 4 to create matchup problems given the opponent and keep the QB confused and off balance.

I expect Kenny C to be the 2nd Alpha Male on the D with the other "Wrestler", Iron Mike.

Right there with you TB...Hey I found a pretty interesting Podcast I guess you would call it called "Locked On Packers". A guy who writes for APC is the man who does the podcast and I'd suggest it to any Packers fan.

Just go to you-tube and search locked on Packers .... I listen to it just about every morning while I get ready for work.

Nice pre-camp focus on the in-camp competition. Slightly off topic, but regarding Oline;
why not sign JEvans for consistency/veteran smarts until the existing options are better proven? There is cap, and I'd rather see it spent on the Oline than WR (as some fans wish for a last minute FA WR signing). Veteran experience, and unit cohesiveness is invaluable; no?
Any insight on whether there is negotiations? Maybe I missed something?

Evans faded badly down the stretch last year, an indication that age had caught up with him. I'd be surprised if he plays in the NFL again.

I don't care about injuries on the Vikings. I'd much rather the Pack handily beat them with a full squad demonstrating the Pack is back and to be reckoned with. There is nothing more demoralizing to the team and their fans if they have their full squad.

We know for a fact our very own Jones will be out due to stupidity!

Not a fact. Allison had the same 2 game suspension last year and it got reduced to a 1 game suspension. Wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen in this case. Trevathan had a 2 game suspension for his cheap hit on Adam's which also got reduced to 1 game.

Spader, your evidence does not support your nitpicking criticism about zBrown’s suspension. One game is still a suspension.

The question was about the Vikings game which is the 2nd game of the season we play the Bears 1st. If the suspension gets reduced as other similar suspensions have in the past then Jones will be present for the Vikings. It's really not that complicated.

I hope the o-line ends up with the belt. So the greatest defensive-line ever assembled, the 2018 Vikings D-line, can take it from them.

It'll be interesting to see who's better Griffin, Hunter, Richardson vs Clark, Daniels, Wilkerson. You also have the Rams with Suh and Donald aka scar as hell. I like GB's backups with Lowry and maybe Adams better. The Vikings still have a good secondary but if GB's has improved on the field the way it has on paper that will go a long ways to helping their DL. As for "greatest assembled" you suck Ben.

That it's a fact that the Vikings haven't won a super bowl.

I'm not a fact guy though barnacle although facts are appreciated. I'm a contribution guy. Even if I disagree with someone's opinion I appreciate them bringing something to the conversation rather than just singling out someone downvoting everything they say and trying to nitpick them.
