Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - Yeah, here we go...

The Weekly Packers Brain Drain from Jersey Al.

It's midnight as I sit down to write this, having just returned after a visit to the Florida Keys to attend a wedding. The groom (Jay) is a big Packers fan and the bride (Alexandria) has come to realize how important the Packers are to said groom. While neither the groom or I was very pleased about the Packers unexpected playoff game and the nuptials staring at the same time, we both accepted our fates. The bride, in her wedding vows, described their first date. As they walked in to the bar/restaurant and sat down, she quickly noticed there were TVs everywhere and the Packers were on. Coincidence or pre-planned? Fast forward several years later, and here are these two young people in this beautiful Florida Keys resort setting, committing to a life together while the Packers are playing playoff football. It felt a bit like the Godfather baptism scene. In this case as the couple were saying "I do", the Packers were "killing" the Cowboys. It also dawned on me that the Packers had created a kind of perfect circle for this couple from their first date to their wedding day.

Anyway, I had promised myself I wasn't going to be "that guy" at the wedding with his face rudely buried in his phone on their special day. But then this happened - when the ceremony had ended and they walked back down the aisle as man and wife, I greeted the groom's mother with a congratulatory hug and kiss. As we pulled away from our friendly embrace, she grabbed my shoulders, looked me in the eye and said, "Al, it's 14-0!" With the excitement in her voice, I didn't have to ask who was winning, but I did kind of stand there in semi-shock. When I recovered, I realized, she knows the score and I don't!? I took that as permission to at least check the score once in a while, although I had so many people (knowing my love for the Packers) coming up and filling me in on the details, I didn't need to do much checking. While I hate that I didn't get to experience the game live, it was kind of a cool evening nonetheless and one I'll never forget.

My plan was to watch the replay the next morning and write this column, until I discovered my laptop, which had been working just fine until we left for the wedding was now completely dead. Nothing. No power. That's the reason I'm writing this at midnight from my home PC. In addition, I've only watched the game on my phone, which I'm not a fan of, so my polluted thoughts are mostly general in nature. Anyway here goes.

Yeah, here we go - I know I'm kind of old school - hard to avoid that when your old (see, at least I'm self-aware). But my God, if I were a teammate of Dak Prescott, I would HAVE to tell him to get rid of that ridiculous and embarrassing thing he does before every snap. Especially since the only place he's ever gone in the playoffs is home early. Ba-dum-dum!

Get up on those Boys - I'm not going to lie to you and tell you I expected the Packers to beat the Cowboys in Dallas (although I did take the points). But all week, to anyone who would ask, I told them the only chance they have is to get up on them early and make them come from behind. That's when Dak feels the pressure and makes mistakes. LaFleur obviously saw it the same way, choosing to receive first and it all worked out exactly as he had hoped.

Where my Gutey haters at? Let's hear from you.

Offsesason GOAT - The MVP of this offseason is going to have to be Russ Ball. Love, Bakhtiari and Jones all have to be dealt with. I hope and pray they find a way to keep Aaron Jones around. I don't think he's ever looked quicker and more explosive than the last few weeks. He'll likely take a team-friendly deal, let's manage his snaps so he's ready for playoff time and let's rock!

The Watson Effect - Even if he's not catching balls, Christian Watson affects the game. The Cowboys were so worried about him as a deep threat, it let Romeo Doubs eat just underneath those deep routes. Here's a great example:

Go Pack Go - Great job by Packers fans infiltrating AT&T Stadium. I heard a lot of cheering when the Packers did something good and plenty of Go Pack Go chants.

Not dead yet - The Packers quarterback threw only 21 passes, completing 16, and the Packers offense scored six touchdowns. The run game lives!

Under the radar performer of the week - Daniel Whelan. Three punts inside the Dallas 10 yard line made Dallas work to get their points, taking time off the clock.

49ers - One quick thought on the upcoming game before I fall asleep on my keyboard. The 49er's offense has so many weapons you have to be concerned about. The Cowboys had one - Cee Dee Lamb. Who do you focus on with the Niners? McCaffrey? Samuel? Kittle? After seeing the Packers struggle to cover Jake Ferguson,  I'm probably more worried about Kittle than most people.

Great stuff, Al. I have a very important work event during the 9ers game. It happens to me at least once every year, and usually 2-3x. This year, it’s this week. It sucks. But nothing you can do. Good for you for prioritizing your family and friends. It’s hard but those memories last a lifetime.

Back to football: It is LONG past time for NFL fans, and especially Packers fans, to recognize that we have one of the best GM and Head Coach combos in the league. While both have their flaws, I’ll take each of them over just about any other pairing currently available. MLF has to answer for his Defensive hires and catering to 12 too much, and Gute has to answer for his 3rd round picks lol. That said, it seems both are doing their best work right now, so we can be thankful for that!

Regarding this past weekend’s game: Any time the Cowboys lose, America wins. I hope to see that painful look on Jerrah’s old face a few more times before he kicks the bucket, and I hope they don’t win another playoff game until he does snuff it. That said, I do feel a bit bad for Mike. I always liked him, even if it was past time for him to leave here when he did.

About the 9ers: Boy, I have a baaaad feeling about this game. 4 all star weapons, a good OT combo, and a QB who distributes the ball well, even if he’s not physically gifted like our QB. And then a nasty defense. It’s not that we can’t win. But SF has been our daddy for over a decade, and they just straight up have the better team right now. We are white hot, but I think it’ll take a couple fluke turnovers, Jones running for over 100 yards again somehow, and Love staying unconscious for us to win. If we do, we are going to the Super Bowl. No way we lose to the Bucs or LOLions. I hope we do win, but even if we don’t, this season has been a blast and the future is SO SO bright!

I will admit I was negative on Gute in the 1st half of the season. The second half I realized he has done the best to the situation MM created and gave him to work with.

I have also changed my view of MLF the second half of the season. He is an excellent OC and play caller. I still stand behind my belief that it is better to have an HC that does not call play or act as a coordinator. MLF has done the best with the situation.

I am afraid they my rehire Berry especially if all the guys they want to hire will not take the job. Berry is just to inconsistent.

I was watching the NFL on TV yesterday and they mentioned that the only head coach not calling plays lost in the play offs. Interesting take on that subject. I never personally thought about that or have no opinion, but made me think after reading your belief and what said on NFL Channel, the Insiders.

Can you detail what it is that you don’t like about MM? I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about the silo set up of who reports to who. So you think MM is making BG’s decisions for him? I believe that’s a foolish thing to think, other than normal conversations and information gathering and sharing to make objective decisions. I believe MM’s smart enough, and respectful enough, that he lets his scouting staff do their jobs. So, if you answer, don’t just say MM’s an arrogant, control freak. Give multiple items of proof. I’m open, change my mind.

Yes, thank you for asking these questions. I think from what I've seen, many hate Murphy because they think he forced Gutekunst to extend Rodgers with that huge contract, shackling the Packers to the accompanying salary cap hit. And maybe the power structure, which I don't understand why they would hate that. The Packers improved greatly following the set up being changed to having the coaching, personnel, and money man all reporting to Murphy. It leads me to believe that fans can't stand losing, so whenever GB didn't win a Title with #12, they wanted heads to roll, not even taking into consideration the relative level of success GB has had compared to the rest of the league.

If this power structure led to this season, I can't fault it at all. This is the fastest turnaround I can think of after losing a star QB.

I don't expect us to beat the 49r's either but I am still looking forward to the game and you just never know. From what I have read, their only weakness is that their CB's are a little slow. Hopefully, our passing game can take advantage of that.

If we have all three of our speedy WRs at 100% and in at the same time? This might be the best recipe to exploit SF's weakness. Everybody's saying our run game is key but they're very stout against the run.

It'll be interesting to see the strategy, and what works ...

Not sure if we have the personnel to matchup to San Fran's weapons but I think that we need to be solid through the middle of the field. Letting Kittle and McCaffery run free underneath will be pitch and catch. I'll take my chances making Purdy repeatedly make the long throws - especially if he is under pressure. We need Rashan Gary to show up for one of these big games. Preston Smith and Kenny Clark have been carrying the mail for this defense down the stretch.

Yeah, unfortunately, if you watch the games, RG has been double teamed (I’ve seen him triple teamed) a lot for the last part of the season. The way you said it it’s like you’re blaming him for not playing hard enough. The other teams watch tape and scheme too

It's a good thing then that Packers are filled with youngsters who don't know better. They don't know that they're supposed to roll over and play dead. 😀

The last few years, the Packers used a strategy that played to the Niners' strengths. This year may be different... nay, this year WILL be different!

I don’t buy this narrative about the young players not knowing any better. All these guys have been playing ball since they were kids. And they’ve all been in high-pressure games their whole lives. They’ve experienced this kind of adrenaline flow. And they know how to channel it. I bet they don’t appreciate people making the “youth” excuse for them. Also I don’t buy the house money narrative. That means you have nothing to lose. Bullshit! They’re here!! Play off spots are HARD to come by! Ask the vets on this team! These windows are small. They need to take advantage of this opportunity, and not play like, “Oh well, we weren’t supposed to make it this far anyway”. NO!!

So the Packers are 6-0 at AT&T stadium. I hear they are changing the name to Lambeau Field South.

Started watching the game with my daughter and son-in-law (he is a Vikings fan) and then they had to go to the church small group meeting. The small group leader is a Cowboys fan so I made sure that I texted my daughter everytime something went well for the Packers.

Hope always remains, Steve!

Fortunately our daughters both married Packer fans. Both grandsons are donned in Green and Gold every game day. Our grandchildren twins were just born in April but they are keeping up with the Green & Gold toddler fashion statements.

Speaking of Green & Gold, where has that man been? I miss his enthusiasm and comments.

I asked a couple weeks ago about Greengold. Haven't heard from him since maybe training camp or preseason? Does he use a different name during the season? I think it was CW that said he disappears sometimes. Hope everything is ok with him. With all Packer fans for that matter. Someone else said he was just a draft guy but I didn't believe it because he went to some of the training camp practices and talked to TGR about it.

"The Packers quarterback threw only 21 passes, completing 16, and the Packers offense scored six touchdowns. The run game lives!"

But what has been so fascinating to me this season is it's always someone different on the receiving end of Loves completions. Since the Packers have been in playoff must win mode, it was Bo Melton against the Vikings, Reed against the Bears, and now Doubs against the Cowboys. Love doesn't care who he's throwing the ball to, he just wants to throw it to the OPEN man. It doesn't matter if he's a rookie. A UDFA or a 7th round pick. A high draft pick or a middle of the draft pick. He doesn't care.

Watching Love Sunday made me think about what might have been. What COULD have been. Had Aaron Rodgers just ran Matt LaFleur's scheme and threw to the OPEN man. Then I was a little pissed again.

I watched it with Favre when he started throwing to anyone not named Sterling Sharpe. I wanted it in 2010 when Rodgers threw it to EVERYBODY, just like Love is today. As GREAT as Rodgers and Adams were, come playoff time it was too easy to defend for the great teams. The SB teams.

The Packers were a great team. The problem was and it was for quite a while, Rodgers just couldn't get on board. It always had to be Adams even with wide open receivers running right in front of him.

I bring this up because I'm just so damn impressed with Love and his grasp of what this offense is really about. If you run it the way it's SUPPOSED to be run, you get Jordan Love the last 10 weeks. If you run it like Rodgers? Well you know...

GO PACK GO!!!

Interesting take. I often wonder what might have been if we would have traded Rodgers last season. That would have given us more draft picks, more cap space, and Love would have had another year under his belt.

Maybe the extra year in the system watching Rodgers and working with Tom Clements got Love ready? Maybe he wasn’t ready last year? Might have struggled and lost some confidence? Everything happens for a reason. Maybe the failed trade with Denver was a long term positive?

Here's the thing. How would watching Rodgers help him. Rodgers steadfastly didn't run this offense, he hated the motion because it kept him from being able to "decipher the defense".

If Love had taken Rodgers lessons he'd be running the play clock down to 1 second every damn snap, would repeatedly check out of run plays, and would have only looked for one receiver.

I would argue that with a year under his belt (under center) we would be even further along than today, and that we likely would have made the playoffs last year.

Rodgers (at the end of his career) was a cancer.

No, "everything" does not happen for a reason. When God closes one door, She doesn't open the window and make lemonade. Nor does She write straight with crooked lines. Country music exists, ffs! Most of the time, the grass isn't greener on either side of the hill.

I tend to shrink from suffering, and am baffled by it, but try to accept it as best I can.
If the Packers wouldn't have had us suffering so much in October, things wouldn't be so sweet in January.
Also, if there wasn't suffering, there wouldn't be heroes.
***
As you have noted in a kind way, Leotis, I suffer with severe depression, and have other struggles with mental illness.
It's a challenge to get through just about every day.
It's a challenge to survive.
I went from making the varsity basketball team in high school (although as a scrub), and getting a scholarship to Northwestern (for golf caddies), and actually graduating -- to being basically a drifter living on the edge of poverty much of my adult life, being at the bottom of society, and being thought of as a loser and a weirdo and a burden.
Oh well. I try to make the best of things, to be grateful for what I do have, and to surrender myself to the God of love who suffered for me in the humiliation of the Cross.
***
So, life is tough in general, at times almost unbearable.
Life is unfair.
Life can suck.
Yet, life is worth it because of the God of Christmas and Easter, the Son of Man, which seems to mean the Common Man.
Life on earth is relatively short, life in heaven is forever.
***
An intriguing quote by Thomas More that helps me put suffering in perspective:
"A man buys hell here with so much pain, that he might have heaven with less than one-half."
If we're going to suffer in this life, we might as well do it for a noble cause and a compassionate king.
I still believe in a God who opens windows, makes lemonade, and writes straight with crooked lines.
The mercy of God overcomes my sinfulness, and goodness always wins in the end.
***
I hope and pray the best for you, Leotis, and all of the fans and staff here at CHTV.
Please pardon any inappropriateness on my part.

Nick, I thought you put a moratorium on talking about the past till this season is over? LOL.

This season is too enjoyable at the moment to dredge that stuff up at least for another week.

What's great about Love and these receivers is that when he passes the ball to someone open, there's always another guy that's wide open too.

Is that MLF coming up with good plays, Love fooling the Ds, the receivers running their routs correctly, or all of the above?

When Favre lost Sharpe to injury, many of us worried about the passing game getting ruined. INSTEAD, it turned out that GB still had plenty of capable targets and Favre would just hit the open man. Kinda seems like that is what’s happening again: no Davante but PLENTY of solid options. GPG!

Favre to Sharpe
Rodgers to Adams
Dak to Lamb...

There seems to be a trend here, with very good correlation to the outcome.

One of the existing WRs of the Packers could possibly rise to the ranks of the above-mentioned WRs. Someone should apprise Gutey of the excellent analyiss made here by the CHTV experts: If Packers have an elite WR, trade him away! That way, 10ve will not be able to follow the path of the QBs mentioned above.

All 8 of our WRs have that ability, but I'll put Toure at #8. #11 is WR1 so far (even at least than 100% and he's played hurt a lot) if JL10 were to look for him first and throw to him when he's open regardless what else is going on it's hard to fault that strategy. Wicks and Musgrave were #2, and Kraft filled those shoes while Musgrave was out. #9, when he's 100%, helps everything even when he's not targeted. When he's out due to injury I'd like to see Bo Melton fill that MVS role, if only to keep JL10 tuned into it.

Doubs hasn't even been mentioned yet?!? DuBose is the likely substitute for Wicks when he's out. There's still Heath,. Plus #33 & 28, who has caught everything thrown his way.

Depth! I don't think GB should sacrifice any of it.

LambeauPlain, the problem with that is, you don’t know that to be a fact. It’s your opinion based on what? Did BG say that? Did MM say it was his decision to keep AR? Where’s the proof that MM is a control freak, egomaniac as I’ve read so often from people here. I mean, he’s the President of the Packers! Haha. Why wouldn’t every decision cross his desk? Duh! You’re saying he’s micro-managing and doing BG’s job. Where’s the proof of that? Details please

I thought Murphy was fairly open about his role in extending Rodgers and his belief in its wisdom at the time. He has been clear in writing about the limitations of Gute’s role. He was a lot quieter during the unraveling last year, so it is possible somethings have shifted since then.

I was not stating fact...just my personal opinion of what may have happened with Denver, Hackett and BG.

You do know that Gutey IS NOT the GM of the Packers, right? He is only GM of Player Personnel. He does not have the authority of TT or Wolf. Not even close. Had he, I believe Rodgers would be in Denver. In. My. Opinion.

Mark Murphy is the Acting GM and installed himself in the role as Chairman of the Football Committee with Gutey, ML, and Ball with co equal positions at the table. Murphy made this move in late 2017 as a temporary move that became 6 years of permanence.

I can play your game too...where is your proof Gutey did not want to trade Rodgers a year before it became a FACT?

I wouldn't say there are always two targets open. What I WOULD say is JL10 is finding the open man, and completing the biggest play when he has an option; this is WAY better than I hoped for this season, and I had very high hopes based on what I saw in TC.

I am not sure if it wasn't "old dog - new tricks" or Rodgers being the smartest man in the room. Either way, I am glad that I don't have to put up with the eye rolling and public admonishment of fellow teammates. The vibe on this team is more of "in-it-together". This was on display when earlier in the season Wicks or Heath missed a reception and Aaron Jones walked out to the player, lifted his head and offered encouragement. This is leadership.

This current roster seems to give off a healthier vibe. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. It’s also based more on talent than familiarity and loyalty. There’s a sense of all being in it together. The comments about Love reinforcing the confidence of young players and sticking with them through mistakes are evidence of a healthy desire to get better as a unit, together.

Rodgers was clearly the stronger personality vis-a-vis LaFleur in hindsight, but he clearly had the support that mattered within Lambeau into 2022 also. Then that changed, the dam broke. We are now seeing why through Loves play and maybe the re-emergence of LaFleur as a tactician at least.

Last year was wasted as I see it in hindsight. However, it’s fair to question whether, like Rodgers before him, they really new just how well Love would play. I suspect that he’s exceeded their expectations, if not hopes, too. Just as Rodgers did as the Brohm pick in 2008 demonstrated.

Nick, I'm kind in awe of what Live is doing with so many receivers. It is kind of like Mahomes who had something good receivers not long ago. In regards to AR, I am a little sad that he had only one receiver that he could count on while it seemed that the others were kind slow, getting older , and had a hard time getting open. I wonder what AR would gave done if he had such good young guns.

Jersey Al meet Jersey City Mike. To me, this game on Saturday has a different feel to it than recently played playoff games against the Entitled 49ers. Our current team has a different mentality and approach to playing the game. I was in Candlestick for the loss in 1999 when Rice fumbled on the last drive and it was not called, it should have been game over. The following season instant replay became part of the game. And I was there when Kapernick ran for 160 yards against us, brutal. I can accept losing games, but what I cannot accept is the Thug mentality that I had to deal with from 49er fans. Living on the Central Coast of California allows me the opportunity to go, but I’m staying home for this game, which is a good sign. I’ve been to Lambeau ten times over the years. It’s been a privilege and honor to go to the Mecca of the NFL and watch a game with true, civilized fans, GO PACK GO!!!

Mike - your comment is interesting to me. We used to live in the SF Bay Area, and for many years I could say that I had been to every Packers game in SF or Oakland since 1980 (including pre-season and playoff games). We now also live on the Central Coast (Nipomo).
But we went to that Sunday night game in Santa Clara in 2021 and decided that we are probably not ever going back. Too many fights in the parking lot on the way out of the stadium. "Thug mentality" - that captures it for me, too.

I share your view of SF bay area fans of all sports. It is a gang war, not an athletic event. What a shitty way to view sports.

Glad it sounds like you had fun, Al.

The groom's mom probably heard the score from the minister (or whomever preformed the ceremony) they always seem to keep an eye towards righteousness.

Dallas had more weapons than just Lamb but the Packers will have to pick it up a notch so as not to get in a track meet with these guys. That doesn't mean we won't want to pass. It just means some long possessions.

They've addressed the good and great pass rushers they've faced so far, very successfully. Now they have another one or two they can't let control their game.

On D they have to get pressure like they did against Dak, not necessarily sacks, just steady pressure and staying honest with their containment.

Al, you've echoed my internal thoughts about that, "Yeah, here we go." thing with Dak. I hadn't watched a Cowboys game (because they weren't playing the Packers, lol) this year and I commented to my wife that that expression was even more stupid than the "Omaha" from a different QB (I can't remember if it was Brady or Peyton). As this game went on, I started smiling more thinking "Yeah, there you go. You're going down." every time Dak spoke it. Priceless.

Beating Dallas is always a great feeling. I do feel for a team like that. Looked good in the regular season but something just isn't going to work. Where do you start? Guys will be fired and contracts reworked but can you put your finger on the right things to make the team championship quality. One thing that they do need is a stronger D-line and better LB play. This was the same problem that the Packers have worked to overcome. Aaron Jones slashing through this defense made defending Jordan Love next to impossible - particularly in the red zone - deadly.

Bosa is 100% on target. This was why I would always say we had never seen the true Matt LaFleur offense and why I was happy that we would get the chance this year. Now there were some real shaky games from LaFleur earlier in the season that had me concerned, but he found his way with the Detroit game and hasn't looked back since.

In my opinion it’s because he started to trust his players and unleash them not constrain them. The second half performances in the first half of the season showed there was more talent than he was getting out of them with the scripted O in the first.

At the same time Love became more assertive and started to adjust plays at the line as well as pushing for more ambition. Remember, LaFleur admitted he was wavering on that Detroit game plan but Love talked him in to sticking with it.

LaFleur is finally reprising the 2020 scheme. Why it took half a season is interesting but it’s here. Love is throwing to everyone and Love and the WRs/TEs have been better than we had any right to expect. Jones is on a career tear and making holes where there wouldn’t be any for others. It’s all coming together. It suits the Shanahan scheme and takes a vast amount of pressure off Barry.

This week will be interesting because now we face a coach who has built a team on that system and also now has a pretty healthy roster that’s probably the most rounded if any in the league. I think Love can be the difference maker. He and Purdy are similar in terms of mental acuity, but physically there’s no comparison.

Unfortunately McCaffrey is perhaps the most rounded all around threat from RB in the league. That’s going to test our D sternly as I expect their DL to challenge our OL. This isn’t a light box, these guys are physical. That’s not been our strong point. We have to win the trenches on both sides and we have to win the time of possession. That’s a big challenge!

I hope we come out and go for the jugular and never let up. If that isn’t good enough, so be it. Then we can start asking why. If we win then it will signal LaFleur’s final coming out as an OC. If we don’t, it will simply remind us that there are differences between the qualities of a successful head coach and offensive coordinator. Teams need both to win it all.

All the "old school" guys come out of the woodwork when the playoffs arrive. You have boiled the game down to its essence. That Dallas defense go pushed around and exploited because we won up front. If we can do that against a stronger cast of characters we will have a chance.

I think you underestimate the toxicity of Aaron Rodgers and it's effect on LaFleur's psyche. Trusting his players, how could he, the locker room had been undermined.

I'm chalking up the first half of the season to PTSD, and I'm hoping it doesn't extend to his relationship with Shanahan. The game plan against Dallas was damn near perfect. They had an answer built in for both Lamb and Parsons, and it was pretty Belichick-like in terms of taking away what they do best. I am/was impressed

"I think you underestimate the toxicity of Aaron Rodgers and it's effect on LaFleur's psyche. "

I was, and will remain to be, conservative of my comments re Aaron Rodgers - like Favre, he'll be on the ring of honor soon, and we'll remember him as a "Packer Great". (I'm side-stepping the off field stuff)

Unfortunately, like we saw with MM, his time had passed, and opponents had seen enough to be able to neutralize most of his "tricks".

The problems that teams are having now with the MLF offense is that they can't lazily rehash the same defensive strategies that they have for the last 5-8 YEARS!

The Packers are now a well coached, well executing team. Gone is the 3rd most penalized team that we saw earlier this year.

I challenge everyone to pick a position group (ex Kicker) and pitch to me how they have regressed throughout this year. THAT - is the strength of the 2023/4 Packers team.

Great story Al. It reminds of when I was in Playa Del Carmen Mexico) for my daughters wedding during a Packer Playoff run. Luckily the actual wedding wasn't during game so 20 something die hard Wisconsin Packer fans, with jerseys descended upon a local downtown tavern and requisitioned a TV. It happened to be the Jeff Janis hail mary game against the Cardinals. The locals and the tourists alike were stunned by the rowdy yelling and screaming but by the end of the game the crowd had grown to several hundred spilling into the street (it was an open air patio area) and everyone going crazy! Locals offered top dollar for our Packer jerseys and there was definitely drinking and dancing. What a game!

Nice job Al as usual. Good point about Whelan's punts contributing to the victory and being under the radar.

I think the 49ers game comes down to the Packers OL executing and keeping the 49ers off of Love. The Packers need to have long possessions against the 49ers and to keep their offense off the field. The Packers have peaked at the right time. The question is can they keep it going against San Francisco?

Thanks, Since '61

Thanks 61. I knew you'd make my (it seems) daily push for the most important group to play this weekend.

People worry about the D and rightly so, but if we can't control the LOS on O, it won't matter what the D is doing.

I know we aren't supposed to win this game and it will be tough, but I felt that way about the Cowboy game too. Any given game day. No matter the result, play a good, clean, competitive game, don't beat yourself, and nobody on either team injured.

You are so right Since'61. I'm sure all Packers players was pumped up to go and show the world they are better than +7.5, bookmaker put them at.

That was amazing show from almost every Packers starter and important back ups on the roster.

I hope they keep focus on the game and their performance, because next game will be much harder.

Also there is one important issue many are overlooking. 49 rest their starters vs Rams and have free week. It is hard to be focused such long time between 2 games. And that is also another thing that goes to Packers favour.

Packers need to avoid chaotic game, both on O and D, because that are the situations 49rs are excellent in those situations

100%.
If the Packers OL plays like they have and gives Love time, I think the Packers have a chance. If they don't give him time its going to be a long day. Packers OL has quietly been very good. Quitely because most people talk about how good Love an the young WR's/TE's and Jones have been. And they have been, but its been the OL that has given them enough time to make the plays.

The O line hasn’t been great. Tom has been, Jenkins has been good and Runyon and Walker OK. Both Rhyan and Myers made the list PFF’s worst players on O against Dallas:

(1. RG Royce Newman: 37.5)
2. RG Sean Rhyan: 42.5
4. C Josh Myers: 53.0

Newman played only three snaps, but whiffed on a run block. Rhyan gave up a pressure and earned the offensive line’s lowest run-blocking grade, something that’s oddly been an issue for him recently, not his pass play. Myers didn’t give up a pressure but received a low grade in the run game. For some reason, Dallas went after the outside more than the center, for which we should be grateful.

Love and Jones have just masked the IOL deficiencies, with some help from Dan Quinn and a big assist from Aaron Jones’ rush pickups.

Something that PFF doesn't grade though is all the OL checks that Myers does. Myers has done a really good job of getting the OL in the right checks. Myers has been a good pass protector overall. His run game does need work.

Didn't Newman also have a false start or holding call or something? My internet went out but I saw they had a penalty of some sort.

When a QB has a near perfect passer rating and a back goes for 100+ yards, i’m going to say the OL had something to do with it.

Walker didn’t allow a pressure that i saw. Got caught off balance and thrown back on one run. One. Yeah that’s “OK”. If one didn’t have an axe to grind, one might say it’s more than OK.

Tom was pretty damn good at right tackle. But forget that, let’s shuffle him over to center because… uh…. why exactly?

I keep looking for this horrible center you guys are talking about and i’m not seeing it. Now maybe the center is not as good as Linsley but how bad can he be when we’re seeing the offense score six TDs? That wouldn’t be happening with say the Packer version of Jeff Saturday.

Newman? So what? He didn’t have many snaps. If he graded out poorly , it’s not such a big deal. We all know what would happen if he had to play more. No news there. Yes we would all like HoF level subs.

I do agree that Runyon had a better game than Rhyan. I guess that’s why he got more snaps.

Love and Jones have just masked the IOL deficiencies..........

Ah, that brings back memories of the good old days, when Favre masked the deficiencies of everybody, and then Rodgers and Adams masked the deficiencies. Now it's Love and Jones masking deficiencies, almost single-handedly, without decent blocking.

Jenkins is a 4 year starter on his second contract. Runyan is in his 4th year, 3 as a starter, and Myers has been a starter since the day he arrived. He has one more year.

I'd be interested in knowing how many teams out there are starting an interior that's a lot better. I don't think it's very many, objectively. I don't think you have the #12 offense with a bunch of first year starters unless people are getting blocked.

people love to trash myers for some reason and use humphrey as the cudgel. everything I've read that center in a Shanahan=based offensive system is exceptionally hard position to play, and that they value intelligence over physicality, because the calls are so sophisticated. i'm sure it never occurred to the naysayers that myers graded considerably higher in intelligence and it was why he was selected ahead of humphrey...

it might also be noted that early in the season Jenkins had not yet recovered to become the Jenkins of 2021, and that the other guard position wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire.

Myers is a totally fine center, and the line is playing really well - hence 4 straight 100 yard games for Jones, and passer ratings in the stratosphere for Love.

Honest to god, fuck Pro Football Focus.

Myers is a replacement grade NFL player by any metric out there in any season he’s played. I don’t get hooked up on who we didn’t pick. I do look at how who we picked performs. In Myers case, average at best.

Tom, Jenkins and Walker mostly have performed well. Recently Runyon has performed much better, more like his prior seasons, but he’s quite possibly not one we have pencilled in for another contract, at least as a starter level salary.

Myers has never reached Runyon’s level of competence over a season. He’s approaching his final year on a rookie contract. If we aren’t planning to challenge him seriously then there’s something very wrong and we’ve given up on a pipeline. I only mentioned Newman because he was worse and pointed out the small sample.

Tom was an option this season, as I’ve said before, that is moot at this stage and should be water under the bridge now because Tom should be a T long term, but that doesn’t mean Myers is exonerated in any way or that we don’t need to improve the interior outside of Jenkins. It’s just chaff you throw up in the absence of argument any time Myers’ performance is raised. Be thankful for Jones last game and the inexplicable decisions of Quinn.

Just as we need new talent at G, so we do at C. You have always been emotionally vested in Myers. I really don’t care why, but it’s never materialized and PFF is just one source that reflects that. Find one that doesn’t or use your eyes. The IOL needs a big boost in talent this off season and real competition in summer. Hopefully this week it isn’t the reason we are all discussing that sooner than we want to.

The Packers will (as they do each year) draft 3 offensive linemen, you'll take that as vindication of your assessment, I'll read that as regular business. Myers is better than your assessments, and PFF grades won't stop being bullshit, sorry. I'm not invested in Myers, he may not get a second contract, but he's been perfectly fine, a pro.

To suggest he's "replacement level" shows how ridiculous your arguments are. The line is performing at a really high level, it has taken too long, but it's doing it's job in the real world, not some theoretical numbers driven assessment that is pulled out of the air.

Myers is a pro center, he has been starting in the NFL since the day he was drafted. The offense is functioning incredibly in this last 10 games. The line (it seems to me) is integral to that. Credit where it's due.

Agree '61. It starts up front and the same imperative is on the other side of the ball.

If the Packers can execute long, clock chewing, scoring drives...get the lead...to keep their offense AND our defense on the sidelines, is key.

And when our defense is on the field, use the talent/depth in the front 7 to disrupt running lanes and pressure Purdy. Packers must ditch the prevent (the win) defense the Niners fully expect Barry to employ...especially when he is given a lead. Bring 5 or 6 often and even 7 situationally.

In the same way that Vita Vea bettered Myers in the Bucs game, the 49ers are going to throw Armstead at Myers and Runyan early and often.

Like Kenny Clark, Arik Armstead does all the hard work in the middle.

If the Packers lose, my tip is that it will be because they lost the battle of the interior line (more so than the edge).

Actually,if you go to pro-football-reference and check it out, Arik Armstead has very similar career numbers to another DL in that draft, Dean Lowry. Their career AVs are like 42 and 48. Now, I always felt Lowry was underappreciated, but even I don't think he'd be something to worry about at this stage of the game.

Vea is much huger than Armstead, who is taller but not as bulky.

I do agree it all hinges on the line, because nothing good happens on offense unless people get blocked. Love needs to put points on the board and he can't do that if he's not protected.

Food for thought LH. The challenge with all of these analytics sites is that they don't have a metric for playing injured. Armstead, like Kenny Clark is a perennial injury lister...... I guess that comes with the position.

Vea was a past draft crush of mine, so I keep tabs on how all of those guys go - he's been a beast since being drafted. Damn, he went too early! in the draft!

Across the board, the standard of blocking play by the Packers has (IMHO) been the most dramatic - and ultimately helpful for the line.

When a TE can be pitted against a premier edge rusher and hold their own, then only good things can happen. Same too the blocking of Jones and Dillon..... Jones blocks like he's vying for a first down..... max effort!

All this takes the pressure off the interior to create the running lanes.

Circling back on your Lowry comments - I agree, a solid-but-unspectacular player that was asked by Pettine and Barry to be regularly spectacular! They set that guy up by asking him to be more than he was equipped to deliver.

Lowry was a guy that deserved to be on a roster as a rotational player but whom they overrated, overplayed and became an obstacle to getting better for too long because he was always healthy and OK, sometimes better situationally.

He’s been pretty bad with the Vikings this year, some would say just outright right bad. Perhaps he’s past his prime or miscast, but despite the possibility that it needs some dilution, it probably does indicate how overrated he was here.

Vea is a freak even in the NFL, but Myers has been manhandled by others too. Power and leverage aren’t his strong points. He does better pulling than confronting head on.

Armstead has been up and down over his career, but this season he’s been good. 7 sacks despite his foot issues that sidelined him after week 14 and maybe limited him before that. He’s a better run defender than Lowry or his fill in for the 49ers. Not a star but not a guy to overlook and better than their alternatives.

The Packers lost to some pretty shitty teams along the way. The key here is that teams do some stuff well and some stuff poorly. A good gameplan and enough talent to execute the plan can put a good team out of synch. I think the Giants did that to us and we did that to Dallas. We need to find things that Purdy has been relying on and take that away. Then we have a chance

Get up on those Boys - The aggressiveness of LaFleur taking the ball first to get up early was huge. It gave them all the momentum in the world. In an era when almost every coach defers to the 2nd half, LaFleur has kind of taken an innovated approach. By taking the ball, he has given this young team and aggressive attitude.

"Where my Gutey haters at? Let's hear from you. "
Where are the LaFleur hatters at?

Offsesason GOAT -
They have to keep Jones. One way or another. He is just special and he changes everything. But what they need to do is to add to the position. No more Taylors of the world. I'm curious to see what happens with Bakhtiari. I could see them keeping him. I could see them trading him. It will be interesting to see what happens.

The Watson Effect -
When people want to know who the number 1 WR is, its things like this that lets you know how other teams feel about specific players. Watson changes things for the Packers offense. Even though he had 1 catch, he drew a ton of attention. It was great to have him back.

Not dead yet -
The Quartback was a dropped pass at the end away from having a perfect QBR. I would say that was a pretty good playoff debut.

49ers -
How did Baltimore beat the 49ers? This is a legit question, because I didn't watch the game or see highlights. I just saw the score. I'd try to mimic what they did. And also how did they lose 3 games in a row in the middle of the season?
They are a dangerous team, but they aren't unbeatable. First thing the defense needs to do is make sure they don't allow guys running wide open. They will get yards, but you can't give them up free yards. They also have to make sure to have many hats on the ball. Whoever gets the ball, have 2-3 guys taking him down.

That last point you make is critical. McCaffrey, Samuel, Kittle - they are tackle-breaking machines. Multiple hats on the ball is essential!

It will be mano-a-mano time. I liked the O line's swagger in the big D/ump. They will have to neutralize the edge rushers and the TEs can work the LBs filling in. I would really hope Gary shows up and earns his paycheck. He was suckered in too easily on the TE release and easy score to Ferguson. With Engabare out on IR VanNess will have a chance to play more reps. He deserves the spot. Too bad they released Hollins, maybe Walker can be a blitzer, but I would prefer Nixon attacking the QB and motion RBs from the slot. Create trouble.

I also think that getting the ball first was huge for the Packers! Maybe we should choose to get the ball first on every coin toss. If the other team gets the call, they will probably want to defer to the 2nd half, which, of course, plays into the Packers' hands. GO PACK, GO!!!

If the other team tries to screw it up and takes the ball, make them pay with a 3 and out. The 9ers will come out rusty (I hope) after the long layoff and it might work to our advantage. Too much to hope for another pick 6, but what the hell? Let's set the tone right out of the gate.

Do you know the 9ers record after a bye? I know that's tracked, so someone here probably knows.

It usually takes a bye team a couple possessions to get warmed up.

Aaron Jones is the difference maker. When he came back healthy, this team took off. Slashing through a defense for 8 yards just sets the stage for Love. He is worth another extension until they find more RB talent.

Bakhtiari is a tough call. There's the knee, there's the contract and then there's the new young line. Bak has been a great Packer, an all pro, and deserves to be part of this success. If healthy, could Walker move inside and shore up the RG position. Tough call for coaches and Gutekunst.

I don’t see Walker inside for reasons of height and how he plays . Tom could but his agility and leverage is freakish, but if we find a C, I don’t think that’s the best use of him. I don’t see Bakh back though, and if he is it’s a one year thing physically that I’d pass on to develop Walker, Tom and a draft pick.

I still think Walker and Tom are better prospects at the other’s position, but both have showed an ability to play T at a very high level (Tom) and well enough that growth could easily cement a long career (Walker).

He'd be the shortest OT we have, if you count Zach Tom as being an IOL player. He and Bakh are both 6'4" it makes me wonder why they're drafting guys 6'7" + to not play them.

Packers ROI after the Bakht's huge deal has been pathetic. Do they attempt to at least get some return or cancel the account?

Even if Bakht does come back, Njman is gone so Walker needs to stay at T for depth...or RT IF Tom moves to C after the Packers draft the best G available in the draft.

Another after the season agenda topic.

It is such a difference with Jones compared to Dillon and Taylor. Wilson has speed but he is a bit different. Jones is made for the wide zone. But his ability to cut and find any little crease is such a difference.
I want them to keep playmakers. Jones is a playmaker.

The other thing about bringing back Bakthiari is they have to feel pretty damn good about having Walker as a backup. No one knows how long Bakhtiari would be able to stay healthy, so having Walker there would definitely make them feel better about it. They will most likely not bring Yosh back. So having a solid backup option would be great!

I can definitely see them trading him. I think the odds are greater that he is traded (to the Jets) then it is for him to come back. But I think its closer then most think. I would say its somewhere in the 60/40 to 50/50 range that he gets traded compared to him staying.

I definitely think we see them drafting OL in this draft. Depending on Bakhtiari's situation, that could create a spot. I don't see Newman or Runyan back. Runyan if its a low cost deal. But i think they role with Rhyan. So that would be 2 more spots. I think we see them drafting 2-3 OL this year.

They're losing 4, they need to draft at least three. And they all need to be good, so they need to be in early rounds. Better Walker, Mt Caleb, Tenuta and Telfort, they need to guess that they'll all be better than rookies and draft for the interior. Very strange that they haven't played those 3, at all.

Baltimore overpowered their OL and got to Purdy fast: too fast for him to get that ball out and the frustration exacerbated that. Outside if Trent Williams, their OL was whipped. On offense, they exploited the lack of speed in the 49ers secondary very effectively—something we have to do too. This is a game for Watson, Reed & Melton to torch that group.

Kittle and McCaffrey still had 100 yard games, but the above and the four turnovers—3 on the first 4 49er possessions—meant that wasn’t fast enough to catch up. The ravens got ahead and never let up.

Thanks CW.
So essentially we need to have tighter defense (not playing way off), and running some blitz/stunts to get pressure on Purdy.

Also this could be a monster game for Musgrave to show his speed.

Something we don't talk about enough is how fast and good of route runners would WR's are. One very big reason why i think our offense has taken off is because we don't have just 1 guy. We have multiple guys who can make big plays. That's what makes us so damn dangerous!

The 49ers have the most efficient passing attack in the NFL, and a huge chunk of their yardage is YAC. We may not be able to prevent the catches but we'll have to tackle people before they turn upfield.

Also, a good week to remind the DL to get their hands up to see if we can disrupt the timing a little bit.

When we're on offense, I'm not worried. We just scored 48 points on the road against the NFL's #5 defense (we also beat the NFL's #2 Defense, KC). We've shown we're more than capable of scoring points against a good defense.

SF finished 12-5. So did Dallas, so did Detroit. It's not about how good they are, it's about how well they play against us. We should be able to give them all they can handle when we have the ball.

There is truth to the fact cowboys feared Watson after last year , but doubs is our best wr against man coverage which they played on like 64% of snaps so our plan to feature 87 was perfect !!! This week expect a different or multiple wr’s to be featured not that we will forget about others and I simply “LOVE” not having a one but having multiple 2’s keeps them guessing Side note I never left the front car on the love train I may have stirred a little hearing others but I knew he is HIM from the beginning that said I love how this is a team and not an I

Still in a dream state on this Dallas win. Talk about walking into a lion's den and slaying everyone. Matt LaFleur and company out coached a poorly prepared Cowboy team. Earlier in the season we watched Joe Barry play the wrong scheme in the wrong situations, on Sunday it was Dallas fans got to see their team with no answers. Can Matt out plan his mentor, his brother and the Packer kryptonite 49ers?

San Fran is a solid team with maybe the best coach in the NFL so this will be a different beast. I don't know where they are weak but those weaknesses don't tend to show up when you are steamrolling opponents. If our defense can play solid ball and keep the pressure on Purdy, we will be in this game. Hate to say it but we need Joe Barry to bring his A game. We have seen him do it so we know it can be done.

I believe that game plans on D was prepared from Joe Barry under the tutelage of MLF after lost to Bucs. He knows Shannahan and his brother, their tendencies and their schemes. Ravens torched 49ers (week 16), and they also lost vs Browns (week 6), Vikings (week 7), Bengals (week 8), Rams (week 18).

So, they have their weaknesses and we should explore it...

Yes! An unexpected benefit for me was first. My two older boys were at my ex-wifes, who is a total Cowboys cheerleader type fan, to watch the game and when they shared a text. wondering if it was okay to really really cheer I had to tell not to suppress any urge and then secondly, my youngest teenage son who lives with me was out watching it with a mixed group of packer &other teams fan kids. He came home beaming and not just because he had his first true girlfriend

Now they are all reinvigorated and I think their faith has been restored and it's a beautiful thing to watch. They see the difference in leadership and approach this year and of course what happens when it's an unselfish Team effort.

Id say truly wet weather favors McCaffrey over Jones and Reed/Deebo, who relies on agility and suddenness more. Id say it favors Love as a QB, because he’s got bigger hands and a stronger arm. A lot depends on if it’s steady or gusty as to how much impact it has, It would favor TE play over deep routes if the wind is volatile. A lot of run after the catch over deep bombs. Probably favors contesting the catch point over soft zone too. A reacting defender is at a disadvantage if it’s slippery and not well positioned to capitalize if the wind takes a ball. I’m not seeing that the forecast is that bad though. This may not materialize and not be significant even if it does.

Not extreme enough to impact the game differently for either team.

Players and coaches will decide this one without external factors mattering to one side's favor.

I live 1 hour north of SF, my weather is SF's weather. 90% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday, but not an 'atmospheric river' type of rain, just an intermittent spitting type with occasional showers. Late Sunday should be the worst of it.

And maybe give Walker a few looks there as well. Cox will get his snaps, but Barry needs to be creative in this game, not instinctive which causes him return to his "mean" of prevent (the win) defense.

Shoot...throw in 4 man front looks with Brooks, Gary and Smith rotating at DE...Kenny, Slaton, Wyatt, Wooden rotating at DT. That would greatly surprise the Niners and disrupt Kyle's play sheet.

Priorities against the 49ers:
Stop the run. Don't allow long and deflating drives.
Stop the short and medium passes, especially to Kittle. Make Purdy attempt to beat us deep.
Mix in blitzes and mix up coverages whether we're ahead or behind.
Rely on our defensive backs to minimize the wide receivers.
It's okay to give up a big pass play or two, but try not to.
Have a safety playing center field.
Let our defensive talent loose plenty of times to be aggressive.
Win or lose with some dash and daring on defense.

Every team has threats, some more than others. Scheme a bit sure, just do your f*cking job. The second you begin to worry about SF, you lose focus on task / roles / responsibilities which begets poor execution and a loss of confidence--just get locked in and let's put forth effort & execution that can make next week's headlines like "They Had It Coming" and "Payback's a bitch."

I agree but there are actual deficiencies in Green Bay's Defensive personnel that may be illuminated on Saturday:

- Defensive coach
-Corner-back room is thin. Even if Jaire returns, he is not 100%.
-LB leader Campbell is lacking stamina (for whatever reason)
-Enagbare is out and will be replaced by ? Someone from Practice Squad?
-McDuffie is questionable

Niners have had 2 weeks off and are not traveling.
There are other factors besides 'worrying' about a respected team
I am optimistic but the D is problematic and I hope Matt and Gute truly address it off-season.

Stop looking for excuses why we can't and start looking for reasons why we can!

-We have an Offensive coach that has a DingleBarry
-The rookies have exceeded expectations before and can do it again
-Campbell is in his enemy year as I have said for all of '23 & last week as well--he is expected to underperform thru Feb 10th...as is Dak who finally sh*t the bed last week as is Kittle who is due to as well / perhaps get hurt.
-Enagbare out? Next man up. MLK Jr famous quote..."If you can't fly, run, if you can't run, walk, if you can't walk, crawl." Bottomline? Look at man to the left and right of you and give it your all.

Matt's Illusion of Complexity Offense is finally getting the Love it deserves.

Rodgers briefly dated IOC in 2019 but the relationship quickly eroded thereafter as he returned to his old flame...chunk pass perimeter game for the next 3 years.

Love has embraced the IOC. He sees all the opportunities it provides and now Matt has opened up the playbook for the young receivers as they run crisp routes AND catch the ball.

Jonesy has turbo-charged the IOC and Love love's this too...run heavy offense makes the passing game so much more efficient and effective. 16-21 and 3 TDs from the new Field General? This is fun!

Mel Brooks is a very funny man and I love his movies. He starred in one of his movies call "History of the World, Part 1", playing several parts, but one was the King of the country. One of his lines was "It's great to be the King".

We, I almost felt like "The King" after watching the Packers play that game Sunday. My hope was that the Packers could look competitive and not be embarrassed. You can only imagine how exhilarated I was after the 1st half and how my hopes and expectations changed. I found myself hoping they could somehow hang on in the 2nd half. WOW...what a 2nd half. As I said: "I almost felt like the King" when that game ended.

The circumstances around when he says that line is what makes it funny.

Yes, you are exactly correct. He named the movie "History of the World, Part 1" and with his unconventional ways, never intended to have a "History of the World, Part 2".

This Packers win over Dallas was so unexpected and exceeded the expectations of even the most optimistic of Packer fans. The last time I was so caught off guard and excited was when I was just a youngster and my parents surprised me with a bicycle at Christmas. That was so unexpected because we were poor and they realistically couldn't afford such a gift; I was thinking that I would be getting a pair of shoes or shirt.

Congrats on a great mind dump...Packers are clicking on all cylinders right now.
Yes 9ers have a great offense and if Barry can call a great defense like he's done the last couple games and LaFleur doesn't take the pedal off in the 4th QTR again I truly believe this is a winnable game.

We just got done beating some of the best defenses in the league:
Carolina
Bears
Cowboys at home
All top 5

The 9ers don't have a top 5 defense like the previously mentioned teams.
I believe that they can be run and thrown on with the arsenal of weapons we have on offense.
It may turn into a shoot out but start fast and end strong!

We had a little fuzzy black and white TV prior to 67 and it was 5G memories with the whole family.

Yep, only Packer games I saw in color were years later about the time of the moon landing. But those games at home with family watching them beating the Giants, Bears etc even on that small TV,is why I became a Packer fan in the first place, They were all talking about Gifford, Unitas,Sayers etc. Wow how time flies because I don't feel old.

I got to watch the Packers on a b/w Admiral TV. Amazingly, my grandmother helped make those tube TVs with rabbit ears!

I used to get in-game summaries chiseled in stone tablets from the local stonemason who was a big Packer fan.

When I started following the Packers, the Lions were REAL Lions!

I hated the Vikings before they invaded England!

When I started following the Packers, there really were real bears in the Chicago area.

"We can beat these guys, but it's not about outsmarting them or having a better scheme. Football is about kicking someone's ass. Football is about physically pounding your opponent. If you want to win this game, you have to beat the shit out of these guys."

Houndog, that game was/is one of my all time favorite games as a Packer fan! From the opening of thel broadcast with mellow music for the 49ers and Jumpin' Jack Flash for the Packers to the crushing Wayne Simmons hit causing the scoop and score recovery by Craig Newsome to just kickin' 49er ass for the rest of the game...just priceless. That was when I believed that team would win a Super Bowl. Thanks for bringing back great memories!

LOL, memories, oh yeah!
I was living in SF at the time and would walk my Basset Hound, Sam, up and down the street wearing a "G" cap several times a day. Packer fans from all over the country would slam on their brakes and jump out of their cars to take pictures of him. Sam would 'clown' for them.
I've remembered that speech since it happened, the networks made a big deal out of it after the game.
Holmgren, I think half-jokingly, asked the networks not to air it fearing his mother would disapprove of his language. They all aired it locally.
I never did hear how his mother felt about it. :)

Given that this young squad has exceeded expectations, I'm now looking forward to see how they respond to adversity...say SF strikes first, or we commit a TO. Character is ultimately judged when under duress. Stupid penalties in the heat of battle. How much has Quay grown up from last year? Will this year's rookies stay grounded or succumb to savvy SF vets that will play mind games...have to stay mentally disciplined, keep moving forward.

LOL AL, I had a similar experience. I had to fill in at work due to emergency circumstances. I was so busy I even forgot about the game I was bummed about that I couldn't see live....Until my cousin in Wisconsin blew up my phone with text after text about the game! He made my day. Later that night after work, I watched replay after replay. I am still smiling!
