Brandon Bostick In, Chris Harper Out at Packers Practice

The tight end and wide receiver were one of the few to have a change in status at Packers OTA practice on Tuesday.

In addition to the previously reported return of B.J. Raji, Colt Lyerla and Jerel Worthy, there was a change in status among two other Packers players during the final week of Organized Team Activities (OTAs) in Green Bay.

According to several reports from those covering the beat, tight end Brandon Bostick returned to practice while wide receiver Chris Harper dropped out for the first time this season:

As Demovsky noted, Tuesday marked the first time Bostick practiced since having surgery on his foot. He was placed on injured reserve late last season after playing in 11 games and catching seven passes for 120 yards a a touchdown.

With fellow tight end Jermichael Finley still unsigned, Andrew Quarless sidelined by injury and rookies such as Lyerla and Richard Rodgers still learning the offense, Bostick can benefit from being one of the most experienced players at the position available to practice.

There was no word on why Chris Harper was not practicing but it's probably safe to assume because of injury. However, it may be difficult to find out the exact extent of Harper's health situation as the organization does not discuss injuries during voluntary OTAs.

Just last week, Mike McCarthy praised the progress Harper made during the offseason, including a positive performance at practice.

It will be worth watching if Harper is able to return to practice next week during the mandatory minicamp, the final week of the team's offseason program.

As usual during voluntary OTAs, the Packers will not comment on his participation or lack thereof. But I would think it's safe to say they're bringing him along slowly during the offseason as they keep in mind the severe knee injury he suffered in 2011. Yes, that was three years ago, but it was no normal injury. There were multiple torn ligaments. The Packers are likely just playing it safe. Unless there's more going on that hasn't been publicized—which I can't rule out—I think it's likely he'll be ready for the start of training camp.
